If I'm not mistaken, Tom Chambers is the only player in NBA history to score over 20,000 points and not be in the Hall of Fame.

The strange part of the aging process is you forget things that were once very vivid to you. I had forgotten about Chambers but seeing his face brought it back. You sometimes tend to forget some great players who weren't mainstream legends.

Tommy Chambers was a beast! I remember him being on my home team, the Suns.

Tom Chambers was a REALLY GOOD player for a number of years. Unfortunately he gets overlooked like crazy. If guys like Toni Kukoc are in the Hall of Fame then Tommy C certainly belongs there as well.

Tom Chambers should have been in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He is the only player with 20,000 plus points who is not in the hall of fame. He was an all-star game MVP, league MVP candidate in 89-90, 4 time all-star, and 2 time All-NBA. The Suns from 1988-1990 came out of nowhere and took the league by storm with Chambers as their superstar player. He helped take them to back-to-back western conference finals appearances, and an NBA finals appearance in 1993. He is in the Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor. Prior to playing his best basketball with the Suns, he was a really good player with the Seattle Supersonics playing alongside my man the "X-Man" Xavier McDaniel and Dale Ellis. Tom Chambers was the first unrestricted free agent in NBA history.

What is usually not talked about in regard to Tom C is his sick quick step and ball handling for a big man.

He was a 1st round pick. I think he's most famous for his years on the Suns. He averaged 18 a game for a long time.

The reason Tom Chambers is not in the NBA Hall of Fame is primarily that he played for seven teams - six NBA teams and Maccabi Tel Aviv - in his 16 year career. Unfortunately, Chambers' massive talent made him trade bait and the teams he played for regularly realized they could get two or more talented players by trading Chambers away. Also, Tom Chambers' mouth was much quieter than his thunderous dunks. Although Chambers was an extremely handsome guy in addition to his athletic talent, which should have made him a marketing giant and great post-game interview, Chambers is a Mormon - he was relatively modest, family-oriented, not out enjoying the "NBA nightlife" of his era (i.e., snorting cocaine and banging groupies), didn't taunt people on the court, complimentary of others and not prone to bragging, and did not seek out attention. He stayed with teams out West because there are better Mormon communities there, and more land to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle he enjoyed.

It's criminal that the "Human Ken Doll" is not in the Hall of Fame. How do you score 20K points across 16 seasons and not get in? Dude was always among the league leaders in scoring.

Chambers in my opinion was the best athlete for a big man in NBA history. He was unstoppable in the paint. His vertical was unreal.

Reason why a lot of people forget Chambers is because he was barley on TV. He played a good portion of his career on bad teams and on the west coast where us in the east never seen his games. The NBA wasn’t broadcasted much like it was now as well. He finally played on a good team with phoenix but was on a team with other big name stars like Kevin Johnson, Jeff Hornecek, Dan Marley (sp) and other dunk specialists like Dumas and Ceballos.. then Charles Barkley.

Chambers definitely was way ahead of his time. He could shoot jumpers and played the perimeter, which was really frowned upon by people in the 80s. “European style” might as well have been a racial slur in those days, but Chambers was a shooter and not really a post player. He did this because he had back issues throughout his career but also had a weird growth spurt in high school. He was initially a guard but grew to 6-10. He was also the first official free agent in NBA history, so there is that. Most people forget about him because he was generally reserved and didn’t make a spectacle of himself. He also held the record for most points by a western conference player in the all-star game for a long time, well before players stopped caring and turned the all-star game into a joke.

Sonics got shafted by new owners who lied to the fanbase if I recall correctly, then they moved the team to Oklahoma. So OKC is Seattle Supersonics. Sonics had Kevin Durant for his rookie year, then the team moved. But on the flipside, Seattle was criticised for not producing a high level stadium to keep up with the growing game.

He can shoot very very well and past too. He needs to be in the hall of fame. It's just disrespected at this point

Tom's weakness was defense. It was fun to watch him score, but that's about it. He could have been truly dominant with at least average D and more passing. If you're that big of a threat to score, somebody's going to be open.

He is a solid player but he got lost in the shuffle. He had some great dunks.

David Stern hated the Seattle venue because it was bad for the league... Access to the key arena venue sucked, getting from SeaTac airport to key arena was always a pain in the ass and players in the league universally hated it... There were other reasons, but David Stern ultimately did the Sonics in, not that Seattle didn't help him all they could.
