In 2002, Maguire starred in Spider-Man, based on the popular Marvel Comics superhero. The film was a major success and made him into a star. He reprised the role in the sequels Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007), and has also provided the voice of Spider-Man for the video game adaptations of the films. All three movies went on to be part of the highest-grossing movies each year.

Really all that's not a match is the voice. Tom sounds about 10 years younger than Toby on screen. Edit: I know full well that Toby is older and that the deepfake software only changes visuals not audio. I've already had 3 numbnuts try and argue with me over that.

Through side by side, and knowing each version- it’s still reading Tom-as-Tobey, not just “really good fake Tom” because Tom doesn’t hold his jaw the same way as Tobey does. This really drives home how speaking voice isn’t just a natural difference in sound, but also how you speak/move your tongue/jaw. There is a distinct lack of “holding a frog in his mouth” look on Tom-as-Tobey and a holding his mouth almost? Narrower? Whereas of course Tom’s been memed for his vocal posture. Really interesting how this can be made apparent with a side by side. Their voices literally make their jaws/mouths hold different resting positions.

lmao yeah I noticed that too and it's because tom's charisma lies in his lips but also his jaw. In this scene he had a similar expression to one tom always has and it was a perfect profile view angle. Everyone is saying how similar they are but they're not comparing side by side with the real person. It's different and that is because deepfake can't replicate bone structure and angles. It's not very good yet especially when it comes to emotions and talking Its definitely going to better but as of this moment theres still more work to do

I think that's one of the reasons why they cast him in this role, Tobey's Spiderman movies changed the superhero movies back when it was released, even with the story and the special effects having aged badly it still is a classic superhero movie. Marvel knows that we know the Spiderman stories.

It’s interesting how this is probably the most impressive deep fake I’ve ever seen, and yet Tobey’s performance is undeniably dampened by its application. Super impressive! Shows some of the limitations of deep fakes though.

Tobey does a great deal of acting through his eyes, whereas Tom is more of a physical/ vocal performer, so it's weird to see so clearly how minimal Tobey actually is. He's super effective at conveying emotion while doing very little.

Well it shouldn't, it works with actors well because there are plenty of time of their face recorded so the IA can learn about it and movies got a great video quality, taking a couple of your IG videos or tiktoks wouldn't work as well, so you shouldn't be scared for now xD

i like watching these bc it shows how much peoples facial mannerisms make up the appearance of their face. even though this is a great deep fake you can still see traces of tobey just based on how his mouth sits when he speaks and how he expresses certain emotions. super cool !!

Because deepfakes don't work in certain angles and lighting situations + you have no control over the expression. But otherwise there's no reason not to use them for certain scenes.

It’s that vfx artists in Hollywood aren’t skilled, but usually the budget isn’t large enough to pay for them, or they don’t have enough time to fully animate and render their vfx properly. Due to the fact that films have deadlines to be released by. And if the vfx aren’t fully done that cut things in animation and render things at a lower quality, so it can be done in time. If you usually see poor vfx, especially in a big film, it’s probably more of a time and money issue, maybe not even money and just time. VFX can take a while to render, even on high end computers, let alone vfx for a whole movie. And yeah deepfakes will definitely start being used more. Disney is developing their own deepfake software. So it will be used more. A.I. will definitely help and is helping VFX artist.
