After a quick farm update, I explain why we remove branches from our tomato plants, a little secret to know when your tomatoes are about to turn color and fixing a broken fertilizer injector...just another day on the farm.

Absolutely Fascinating videos revealing an almost numbers requirement to everything. These videos should be mandatory for all entering or studying farm life. Beautiful video. Thank you.

Everything looking great there. Every time you open a greenhouse door and walk in I can just smell all those tomato plants lol. Thanks for the update.

I know exactly what you mean! But I get tired of smelling it on my clothes and hands all day after leaving the greenhouses, lol.

Thanks for the tip on 12 branches is all that's needed! I always clip some near the bottom for better airflow and access but have been afraid to clip too many branches off. Now I can clip more off the bottom than I have been!

Thanks and i appreciate the bug concoction recipes and pkant maintenance. I noticed some sag on my backyard trellis wires too. I watch cherry and determinate tomato clusters to prune to 3 fruit, support and branch removal. I got a commercial battery powered sprayer too.

Your welcome, hopefully you have a great growing season! I just sprayed two houses today that had some active thrips, hopefully I can get them under control. I used our 25 gal gasoline powered sprayer with a 150 ft. hose, that video will be out next Saturday.

If I may ask, how much NEEMOIL, Conserve & No Fly do you use per gallon of water? I actually purchased some Conserve after watching your videos instead of the cheaper Spinosad (lease concentrated) stuff I was using.
@wishwellfarms2 ай бұрын
Sure thing, I use one teaspoon per gallon for conserve and 2 teaspoons per gallon of the neem oil. The Neem oil I use is 3% Azadirachtin. For the botaniguard and no fly I use 2 tablespoons per gallon. This Saturday I will have another video showing me mixing these three items to spray on my grape tomatoes.

those branches are actually compound leaves. the actual branches are the suckers
@wishwellfarms2 ай бұрын
Yeah I know, but when you call them branches for 25 years it's hard to change, plus it just makes more sense to me to call them "branches" with "leaves" on them...my employees would get confused if I called them any different.

do you find a difference in flavor from the hydro Green house Tomatoes vs the field tomatoes?
@wishwellfarms2 ай бұрын
I think it’s hard to beat a good soil grown tomato during the middle of the summer because of the length of daylight and amount of sunlight we have. Until then the greenhouse Tomatoes are absolutely amazing but when put side-by-side, I think the field tomatoes are a little meatier and a little more flavorful. Some hydroponic growers may claim otherwise, but I’ve been doing this long enough and growing both types that I would take a field tomato any day. But for our farm the whole point of growing greenhouse Tomatoes is not to compete with field Tomatoes but to be the first at Market with Tomatoes during May June and July here in Ohio. Hope that helps.

what is the twine and clamps do you to hold up the vines?
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
The spools of tomato twine are just called tomato hooks and the little plastic clips are tomato clips that help hold the plant to the string. These can be purchased at any commercial hydroponic growing supplier.

@@wishwellfarms Horizontal trellis for the grape tomatoes and vertical lower and lean for the others?
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
@@JasonWehrley our grape tomatoes are determinates so we use the Florida weave on them like outdoor tomatoes, but the other greenhouse tomatoes are indeterminates and grow about 25 feet long in a season so they need to be continually lowered throughout the season. determinates only grow like 5-7 feet tall.

I can only imagine the capital investment made in your farm.
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
It is quite a bit but when it’s spread over a 23 year period it was never too much at one time and nothing compared to a big soybean and field corn operation. We have no personal or business debt whatsoever so it makes it much easier to make a living on very little.
