This was the first PS game that I ever played, probably back in about '97-98'. Im going to be 31 soon and I LOVED the OG TR series. Its not the same to me anymore. No tits, weak ass Lara pales in comparison to old school, big tits and blast everyone and everythings asshole off without a care in the world Lara

Still think this one was the best game out of the whole series. First 4 games were awesome. Chronicals was kinda meh.. Angel of Darkness would have been good if the controls werent complete ass.

Time gets zero priority. Faster doesn't mean better, showcasing everything properly for the viewers is, though. All walkthroughs on the channel are done this way.

This was played via Beetle PSX HW core. Overclock set to 240%, along with GTE OC. x8 the resolution, x8 anti-aliasing. PGXP in Memory mode with primitive culling and perspective correct texturing to on. TR2Main is great, but it's also a work-in-progress. With PC community patches, it does bother me a bit that at some point the video is going to be a bit obsolete in terms of enhancements. The PS1 version is an unchanging constant, and emulation enhancements don't get much innovation lately, so it's practically "as good as it gets". It's also good to have platform-specific videos, not only for preservation purposes, but also because there can be quirks not present in the PC version, like the medi pack in Xian is not accessible in the latest patched TR2 with the same method as used in this video. For example, when I made the PC version walkthroughs, the only enhancements around were the widescreen patches, so you'd have PC versions with missing effects (TR2/TR3). Lastly, it doesn't apply to Tomb Raider, but during this era the PC and PS1 versions can be almost entirely different games, so it's cool to cover different platforms.

@@filevans Oh no. What I described to you was my reasoning to pick this version for video production. At least, that's what I thought you were curious about. If you want to just enjoy the game, then the original PC version works as well.

@@filevans As for the medi pack, that was about one particular jump (6:08:03). The deal with it is that this bug was patched in later versions, so if you're using Steam or GoG versions then this jump won't work there. If you want to play the original game in its best form then using TR2Main patch would be the best course of action. Vanilla PC version lacks more advanced lighting, shadows, health bar and even inventory waving flag of the PS1 version. Using TR2Main will restore those missing features.

This is via Beetle HW PSX via RetroArch. For less tech-savvy users standalone DuckStation is a viable alternative. I would suggest doing proper backups of your discs (redump method), as optical media ages, degrades and becomes unusable. It's not a matter of "if", rather "when". Something to note is that the PlayStation version doesn't have a looping soundtrack. And the Gold expansion is a fan effort. Or you can purchase a Steam or GoG copy of TR2 and use TR2Main project to enhance the game to PlayStation levels and above.

@@DfactorLongplays Cool! How did you get the CDDA replay on the PS version? I remember that when you collect the secret the ambiance sound breaks.

@@epires2 Manual labor in post production. Manually edited in later on. Sadly, there are no fixes for the PlayStation version, as it doesn't have the triggers to resume the ambience. Which is why the PS version feels rather silent in comparison to the PC version, which has the working looping.

Monopoly is never good. This would depend on your preferences and needs. Duck for enhancement beginners, Beetle for enhancement tinkerers, Mednafen for software emulation. I use mainly Beetle and Duck. This video was made on Beetle.

@@DfactorLongplays I actually disagree, sometimes monopolies can be good depending on the circumstances. I want to play Syphon filter without texture wobble.

@@mintmag8748 Monopolies cause progress stagnation. Syphon Filter 1 wobble is unfixable with current PGXP, no matter which software you pick. I would like to see it fixed too, in the future.

@@DfactorLongplays Yes they can, they're not always good but sometimes they are. Nintendo had a monopoly when it started and used to to revive the industry by ensuring quality. A good move after Atari almost destroyed everything. Point is, there are exceptions to the rule. I was able to reduce the texture wobble for SF a little with Duckstation but frankly I don't like the developer and I'm looking for a good alternative.

@@mintmag8748 PGXP implementation works the same across all 3 emulators that support it, since it was created by a separate developer. Be it Beetle, PCSXR or Duck. That wobble reduction is as good as it gets in SF1. Like I've previously mentioned, unfortunately, SF2 is the only one that works best with PGXP.

@@DfactorLongplays I see the "glass randomly kills u in 1 spot LOL" as the only serious bug. All others are the series' staples. And yes, I still cannot understand why CORE did not adjust the engine to display the aspect ratio properly in all regions.

@@NotOrdinaryInGames There's the "surfacing with lit flare gets the water sound stuck" annoyance and it happens way too often. Multi-region releases were often horrible back then and there was barely any standardization. Usually, though, most PAL releases were the bad ones.

@@DfactorLongplays Guess TR2-5 and Medievil were the inverse examples (Medievil NTSC runs too fast).

That's what happens when the developers live in PAL region. Funny enough, I think some of them still did botch their own home releases. I think I've always played ME in NTSC region, so this is news to me. It's also possible to play at a stable 30 with a bit of overclock. Unfortunately 25 fps will never look good on a 60Hz screen, unless you make a custom resolution with 50Hz or own a 120+Hz panel, where it would be less noticeable.
