This time I was playing Tomb Raider I-III Remastered and, like many of you all, I'm liking it so much. Such a nice welcome back to the roots and a proof we all want old school. Because old school Lara Croft is cool!
I wanted to make this video sooner, but, unfortunately, my father-in-law passed away after a long and grueling battle against the terminal form of lung cancer. So I felt the need to dedicate this video to him to "immortalize" him in a way. And of course, I'm dedicating this video to all of you who are following me along this journey. Thank you very much!
Like & comment if you like the video. That would mean a lot to me!
And as always:

"Give us the real deal" I felt that. So frustrated with the new crap but so passionate about old-school Lara. Lara was always my hero, a woman I wanted to be like. And Legend including the anniversary game paved the way for a whinier version of Lara that nobody asked for.

I totally agree with the visuals - they are not perfect (some areas and textures got more updates than other ones), but they are definitely a big step up from the originals. They feel really appealing to the eye and most of the time, enhance the levels and their respective atmospheres - and even if not, they are at least not intrusive or disturbing (e.g. those added openings in the ceililngs). BTW as a PC-gamer-only, I could notice, that TR3 & TRLA were a bit darker, but far from the "WTF is going on there" PS1 playthrough videos I've seen. I think I used a maximum of 20 flares throughout the two aforementioned games. Also, you have a very good point with the controls - those games were built around grid system and controls were tied to it, enabling the player the level of precision required to successfully beat some of the obstacles and navigate the levels with ease. The modern ones ask for more fast-paced approach to the game, but there's not that much of the usual automation (doing quite a lot of the job for the player) than in other games. Also, the modern controls have yet to be fine-tuned, as they lack the functional polish the traditional tank controls have. Lastly - though I'm not much of TRLR fan, I would, too, also welcome this particular installment being remastered. And believe it or not, I'd love to see Chronicles being treated the same way. Yes, remastering all levels in their as-is form would be fine (though I admit, that a "Chronicles Reimagined" version would probably fare better with most of the gamers).
@kristijan893
@kristijan893 4 ай бұрын
You pretty much nailed everything in this comment. The visuals do what they are supposed to do. Amplify the atmosphere. About the modern controls.. I simply couldn't get use to them. Maybe with more time I would, but all of the levels are build up for precise tank controls since Lara moves in exact, uniform way. So yeah.. I Think TLR remaster will be on its way. I feel like all of the 5 games deserve the same treatment and that would be it. A nice closure. No so sure about the Angel of Darkness

@@kristijan893 Hmm, TRAOD is really quite different to the 1st five TR installments (expansions included). To be candid, I'd be perfectly OK having that one just being finally finished - with all envisioned & planned contents being there, with polished controls (both tank and mouse-operated / analogue ones), no bugs, no visual glitches, dialogues and upgrades being made crossroads for various mutually-exclusive paths to be taken, having some real penalty for not being stealthy a/o killing innocent guards implemented, etc.. Well, just what it should have been back in 2003. Considering my advanced age (or despite it), I think I (still / just) have a few decades to live, so maybe one day I finally to get to play this swan-song of the classical TR era that way 🙂
@kristijan893

@@buffalodebill7986 yeah, that would be awesome. Visual-wise AoD is completely fine, just bug fixes, better control and all the cut content back in.. and you would end up having a great game. Well, one can dream... but there are some restoration projects worth checking out if I remember correctly.

@@kristijan893 I'm unsure, as I recall trying this restoration project demo (aka 1st level only) version, and thought it was visually better than the original, it was (more or less) a 1:1 re-creation of the 1st level, and not really a what-might-have-been kind of a thing. But as it's said - a man can always dream.. 🙂

I'm really enjoying the Remasters on PC. I had the same issue regarding the save/load system you mentioned until I found out that there are shortcut keys for things, as well as, for your weapons and healing items. You can hit F5 to Quick Save, F9 to Quick Load, 1-8 for your weapons, 9 for Large Medipacks and 0 for Small Medipacks. As long as you can remember which F-key is for what function, you shouldn't lose out on progress unless you forget to save and die due to a stupid boulder or a fall. And oh yeah! F3 is to go into Photo Mode, of course. I've actually started using Photo Mode to learn the layouts of the levels and to find out where items are track them down. I just found that saved me a lot of travel time and unnecessary deaths since I had an idea of where I was going.. well, most of the time. Some of the level layouts are still incredibly confusing, especially if this is your first time playing these games or haven't touched them in years. It is always cool to see how a level wraps around itself through the different paths it offers. :)

This is absolutely the remaster all of us original fans were begging for. The fact that they kept the original graphics as an option that isn't locked behind any requirements is amazing too. You could imagine that, nowadays, most games would lock them behind collecting a certain amount of secrets or in having completing the game once through with the modern graphics.

I played TR1 with modern controls once and tank controls once, and if there’s anything I learned is that modern AAA games needs to take risks in innovation and gameplay. The mood gets different between the two control schemes in TR1, tank control really benefits the adventure and exploration genre, anytime you encounter a new enemy type is creepy, meanwhile modern control makes it feel like whatever stuff you see is not very powerful because you have free movement. If you prefer action games then modern control is designed like gears of war in the comparison

Another disadvantage of VANILLA graphics mode is they used the PS1 draw - software render style without any texture filtering. I wish there was a HARDWARE ACCELERATED draw style mode as well for those of us who got used to PC ports with VOODOO GPU in the 90s. Less wobbly textures and anti aliased textures go a long way. HD port on ANDROID looks amazing in old school graphics mode by comparison to this PS1 blocky-ness.

You can make Lara snap to items and interactibles, just turn off walk to action, so the speed running bug should work. It seems saber tried to maintain the speed running accessibility. Also I don't think it's fair to compare the tomb raider trilogy to the nsabe and reignited trilogies, those two are more remakes, especially spyro which had to be built from the ground up because the source code was missing, and the controls for both games were tightened quite alot making tricky playforming easier in most aspects. Tomb raider feels exactly perfect to how I remember it back in the day. So saying you'll know perfectly what your getting yourself in for is a major misnomer as with that statement you're setting up people to think the physics and control tightness have also been touched up, and considering saber was adamant in advertising the keeping of the original source code and not changing it, so I'm certain that nothing regarding the physics and controls have been touched up. I'm 90 hours in and on level 9 of tr 1. I grew up with TR3 and only ever played croft maner because I could never get past the first level as a kid. That being said I live these games so far, even if it is draining for me to progress because dark souls taught ne nothing about the anchient foe of gravity. Also no reviews bring this up and it annoys me, so newcomers playing on switch, quick flare is - and R and photomode is l3 and r3, both of these will be good tools to have

@@johngray6215 I don't think it's just a matter of nostalgia. These games offer a "realistic" platforming experience that really doesn't exist anywhere else today. Platforming that requires patience and technique through precise, calculated input which bring awesome feelings of isolation, vertigo, awe and have great atmosphere. I'd suggest getting used to the original tank controls when trying the games. Playing the first Prince of Persia (I recommend the SNES version) might also help making it click, Tomb Raider reusing many of its mechanics in 3D. Those games are pure technical gameplay goodness, it's very rewarding when you manage to control the characters through the levels perfectly. Some people say that these games have bad/unresponsive controls, but they are just people who didn't even try to learn and understand the controls. The "I want my character to jump at the exact time I press the button" crowd. It's understandable but as a human being you can only jump at a certain point in your running cycle so this makes you feel like you're controlling a real human being who has to be mindful of each of their moves at all times, not Mario or Sonic who can yolo their jumps.

Just remember folks. Lara died in tr4. All games after it are fakes

Wasn't she canonically found at the end of Chronicles? So not actually dead in TR4 after all.

@@andyc8257 TRC is legitimate canon to classic Lara timeline. It's AoD unfortunately not Canon do to a cut cutscene proofing it doesn't match well with TRtLR.

@@kristijan893 Sorry I made a mistake, you need to let the T rex live then back at the mansion follow the butler around and he will open a secret door and if you have the secret item you get for killing all enemies in the game you get the key to clothes closet in Lara's room. I'd show you but my capture card got corrupted and then my pc went on fire. But it's true. I swear.

'new' TR games are just bland. I really can't tell them apart from eachother NOR other games like Uncharted. All the same game play.

Honestly they are so forgettable when I got this one and looked at my profile on true achievements briefly I had no recollection of playing some of them lol. I have shadow barely started because i turned it off within an hour and in my head there was only one game before that but apparently shadow was the third game. I cant remember rise of the tomb raider at all. I started the first reboot one and had no idea where to go because i remembered nothing about it. Compare it to this collection i loaded up level 1 of the game i havent played since the 90s and walked myself to every secret from memory.

@@charg1nmalaz0r51 Yep bang on. I tried to get in to the new ones but they're so .. fucking .. bland. Everything is the same colour pallet, no variation. There is only so many times I can watch scripted cutscenes with quick time events, sneaking around with x ray vision stealth killing enemies its SO DULL.
