Bryan Johnson rewrote his story as someone coming from a family with financial hardships and drug addiction problems to founding Braintree and selling it to PayPal for $800 million dollars. Even more inspiring than his past is his belief in our future as humans. Bryan talks about rewriting the human brain through his company Kernel and why the future depends on it on this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu.
SHOW NOTES:
Bryan talks about the start his calling to help the world [3:25].
Tom and Bryan discuss the future of our relationship with A.I. [10:55]
Bryan explains the value of privacy in our fast-growing digital world. [21:10]
Bryan touches on his journey through and out of his decade of depression. [34:20]
Bryan shares how to positively influence a child’s belief system. [43:35]
Bryan reveals the impact he wants to have on the world. [49:09]
QUOTES:
“There was one question that mattered to me among all, which was, how could I create the most value for the species? It was the only question that I cared about. I didn't care about making money, I didn't care about retiring at 65. It was just that single question that led me on the path that I went on.” [3:45]
“I love life. I love playing the game of life. I don't want that to stop, so if I see something that's going to potentially stop my gameplay, I identify it. Like, hey, that thing needs to be solved. I don't know how we could be oriented any other way.” [33:53]

We have to have more people like Bryan Johnson. We have to have more people, who take ownership of the big problems. As a community I think we're more than capable to fuel that. And eventually solve them.

I think this was the most beautiful episode yet! I am beyond-words-excited to follow what Bryan is doing. I identify so hard core with him and his philosophy on playing infinite games. Thank you so much, Tom for having him on your show. I've already shared this with so many people! Tom, I think regarding advice - what you do at Impact Theory and especially in your AMAs is teach the guiding principles so that people can make future decisions with these new principles. And your guest episodes are showcasing the principles in a wide range of lives so we can see how the patterns end up working regardless of biases and experiences. The advice you give is priceless because you teach people how to think - not tell them what to do.

His story about depression really resonated with me and the analogy of the mountain was beautiful! One of my questions that helped me get through the worst of times with suicidal depression was “What does this mean?” it’s easy to make negative assumptions about an event that spiral downwards into the actual feelings of depression but as I got better at asking that question I was able to assess the positives and negatives of a given situation but ultimately realized everything is neutral until you give it meaning - life changing realization. Another great episode! Can’t wait for the After Impact 😎 -Eddie

I know this comment is 3 years old. But what you discovered is the bases of stoic philosophy, a really old Greco-Roman philosophy that’s been the object of attention from a lot of self-help, though far from mainstream. I wonder if you read about it or just figured this out for yourself?

Probably my favorite episode I've seen so far... I absolutely love the approach to thought and picking apart the "how did you make the decision" rather than "what did you decide" because I fundamentally believe that is what will change our education system in the long run and what turns the little fleshy blobs into people in their own rights... it's what makes each of us individual and our lives gain meaning from HOW we decide

Peace TB. Out of all the episodes I've watched, I believe this one (with seeing someone who reached a *raw* rock bottom & came back) Truly captured *both* why you do this, *&* why many of us are here, with *tangibly* *brilliant* & simple direction: (Summarizing) We are the solution to "that thing" no one seems to be addressing, and, we *know* needs to be fixed. You reminded me of that saying by Buckminister Fuller: "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” Thank You Sir. {Much Respect} Peace!

Tom, I love this show: the questions that you ask and the guests that you invite. Bryan, I find your theories fascinating and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you. Thank you for sharing you with us. I had fallen into a similar type of depression that I didn't even realize the severity of it until I reflected upon my "WHY" recently. What pains me the most as a life coach is to see people "stuck". When I was stuck, I merely existed each day. I lived my life, striving to further my career and build a nest egg for retirement at 65. I choose to believe it wasn't the world that was created in 7 days, it was life. Humans were created as a tool to keep life going. My children are my contribution to future generations. My students are surrogate children, so to speak. (My kids say I'm not done being Mom, even though they are no longer kids.) I teach what I've learned through my experiences and studies and I study what you've learned through your experience and studies. Your theories seem to align with that and offer proof to mine. I'm glad to hear your thoughts. Thank you again.

Tom, you know what I like you the most from you? How you say "It doesn't matter where you start, all that matter is the price you're going to pay to get to somewhere you want". This is just hands down one of the most inspiring and motivating quotes I've ever heard. Unlike that other "entrepreneur motivator" who starts really early and judge everyone who hasn't sold anything by the time they're 20 as having no capacity whatsoever to be an entrepreneur.

Tom, I have found you and your spirit to be very empowering and inspirational. As a public school teacher, I assure you that I and my colleagues are extemely dedicated to the learning of our students and preparing them for the future. Yet, there always seems to be a default criticism of public education as having a negative impact on children. A free and appropriate public education is a fundamental right in our country. I assure you that "private" does not always equate to a superior education. In many cases, public schools provide an equal or better education. If I read too much into your question related to education, I apologize.

Thank you for this episode Tom. Thank you Bryan for sharing your thoughts. It changed the way I think. Jordan Peterson also talks about playing games. An example he gives is that imagine you are playing with your friends, and you cheat in order to win at that game. That will be a failure, because soon your friends will catch up to you and you won't be invited to play anymore. Success would be playing it by the rules, fairly, such that you are invited to play more games.

That video blew my mind! To Bryan : Where do you place the spiritual potential of the human species ? Our potential to cure ourselves ? As we know about things like placebo effect can trigger recovery of some sickness, even nobody has ever invest big money on it, shouldn’t we invest also efforts to raise that potential to the highest level ? You were also talking about your soul, where is the place of the soul? Can our soul live outside of our body ? It seems to me that this essential part of ourselves is not in the equation. Or you are working on that too? Or you don’t believe in soul? To the interviewer : Thanks for the quality of the interview, I really enjoyed to see a well prepared interview with interesting questions to the guest and good interaction between you 2. My first time on this channel and this is one of the few videos that has expend my horizon. English is not my mother tongue so I might have written few mistakes…

Wow! I had to create a new playlist on my KZfaq channel now just so that I could share this. Love this show because it never leaves you indifferent - but this episode was one of the best I have seen! Kilimanjaro moment very touching - and a reminder of how many answers are out the structure and elements of Nature. No wonder all the so-called "primitive" religions are based on that.

I liked it, then unliked it, and liked it again, so that I can like it twice. This is incredible. Thanks Tom. Appreciate your work.

I like the way Brynan thinks his ideas about humans being crazy, being like teenagers and how the normal rules of society bore him, the guy lives in a world of his own.
