Most people love to play to their strengths. If you’re good at alternate picking, you tend to prefer playing that way. If you’re good at playing by ear, you tend to mostly play by ear. If you’re good at rhythm guitar, you probably spend most of your time practicing that.
Most people practice what they are best at because it’s fun and we feel good about ourselves and our playing when we working with what we can already do well.
The problem is that it’s our weaknesses that often hold us back from becoming a much better guitar player. And those weaknesses are what tend to frustrate us and make us practice less and enjoy playing less.
