What I like about your videos is that you teach music students how to become independent and how to add a personal touch to what they play. In most music classes, students learn the basics and how to play music as written. They have to figure out by themselves how to improvise and how to actually interpret a number. Thanks for sharing your musical knowledge. I subscribed!

Thanks for these instructional videos. I have been playing organ for about 35 years. I am basically self-taught, although I did have a year of music theory in college. I am always interested in learning new tips and techniques. Keep up the good work! Thanks, Allen. P.S. If you are interested, I do have videos of me playing organ on my channel. I do not play nearly as well as you and many others but enjoy having fun and sharing music with others.

OMG Tom, this is so FABULOUS! I am your typical high-brow, classically trained church organist and I am just now discovering the theatre organ (and I'm 55 = better late than never!) We just got a brand new HUGE Rodgers Infinity 361 Series organ at my church and it has tons of theatre capabilities which I am just now starting to explore, and I'm having a blast, but I know precious little about theatre organ performance practice. Your videos have helped a great deal, thank you!

Wonderful to hear Lari! Do check out my other theatre organ videos and best of luck discovering the wonderful sounds of these instruments. Enjoy the new Rodgers too! Tom

@@KeyboardSkillsPro I've been asked to play in a parish talent show on November 18th, and they specifically asked me to play "something light and fluffy". LOL. So I'm putting together a little medley of Game of Thrones theme, No Business like Show Business, and Over the Rainbow. I CAN"T WAIT! I am so looking forward to it. I think Buxtehude and Sweelinck will LOVE it, too!

But of course, the difference between the 1/6/4/5 and the 1/6/2/5 is that the "2nd note minor 7th" and the "4th note 6th" is which one you call the root of the note. They are otherwise enharmonic.

Leading into a hymn with a "preview" of the cadence is a common church organ tool for establishing key & tempo for the congregation. I do believe anyone with piano, guitar or rudimentary theory should already be familiar with these harmonic progressions. I would enjoy technical content more specific to the instrument. ☺ 🎶 🌹

Not everyone trying to learn to play an organ has any background at all and some play an instrument that makes one sound at a time ( that would be me) so a little bit of the basics is just fine. By the way playing a chord with the left hand And foot pedals is unique to the pipe organ.

Well many theatre organists of the golden age recorded on the Decca Wurlitzer. Some no doubt would have been Sidney Torch, Reginald Porter Brown, Ena Baga and many others.
