Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy, Power Book IV) joins us this week and opens up on how his near death experience after a knife fight led to him not only changing career paths from being a DJ to acting, but also allowed him to realize that it’s okay to fear things in life. Tommy talks about drawing from experiences and interactions in his past to inspire his ‘tough guy’ bravado that he portrays with a lot of the roles he has. We also talk about his underprepared experiences on Braveheart and Gladiator, how he was able to overcome imposter syndrome in this insecure business, and his time shooting Power Book IV: Force.

I was walking down Buchanan Street in Glasgow over Christmas about 10 years ago and a group of guys was walking the other way. It was daytime and was snowing and bitterly cold. One of the guys was wearing a hat and his coat collar was pulled up and his scarf was pulled across his face. He looked across at me as we passed and I was looking quite bikerish which seemed to get his attention. The scarf slipped a little revealing the scars and he looked at me. I winked and he winked back and smiled and we just kept walking. It’s the Glasgow way. No fuss. Me & Tommy for half a second.

It's not Crowe or Gibson as he got on well with both of them and has said positive things about them on multiple occasions (he wouldn't lie it's not his personality). It's not Pine for his reputation nor Joaquin Pheonix as it's not his personality and it's not Willis, Cage, or Seagal because he definitely referring to someone younger... I'm with everyone in that it's probably Ryan Reynolds the only issue I have with that is Reynolds wasn't doing a ton of movies and wasn't huge at that time...

I agree with a lot of suggestions already mentioned but trying not to mention names that a lot of other people have already said but including people that Tommy has worked with that I could imagine treating people around them like shit and could be considered "huge" I could guess that it could be Jared Leto, Michael Douglas, Clive Owen, James Woods or Peter Fonda. All of whom I would also consider greatly over credited in their acting abilities vs the size of their careers.

So someone suggested Smokin Aces and if it's Smokin Aces: I'm guessing either Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pine. Both match parts of the criteria for what Tommy is describing. If it's Face/ Off: I'm guessing Nicolas Cage since Tommy was a part of Cage's crew in that movie.

Vin Diesel just did voice work on GOTG. He recorded his bits in studio, I doubt that Vin was ever on set. They probably had someone else as the stand-in while filming.

Everyone trying to guess- There’s only one person who fully fits the description, and that’s Ryan Reynolds. No one else on the “suspect list” is “huge” “makes so much Fing money, and he does all these Fing nonstop movies.,” etc…. The money, number of films, and “huge” are the keys. Actors don’t actually make much money on a film unless they’re the star, and even then, it’s usually not the type of money Reynolds makes, and only a handful of people qualify as huge. Keep in mind Reynolds was only 27/28 when they worked together.

No, it wasn’t. Chris Pratt treats everyone like family. He’s a sweetheart, and he’s exactly the opposite of what Tommy described. Chris once ran barefoot from his trailer across a snow covered parking lot to bring hand warmers to some crew members, and is constantly checking in to make sure everyone is okay. This is nothing at all like him.

Except nobody that’s ever worked with Pratt has said this about him and he isn’t in tons of movies making big bucks. He’s in marvel and like two other things once every other year. Probably Ryan Reynolds or someone he actually filmed extensively with.
