Im a heavy 3ds hacker, i tried forcing 2 male miis to be married, im very gay and want that in the game, when it came the time for my miis to have a baby the game completely broke, it would not boot and i lost months of progress, ultimate homophobia 😭

I’ve played both versions of Miitopia, both of them give the option of queer relationships for playable characters. It’s not explicitly stated, but I recall that it was rated M in some regions due to it. Also, I recall the demo I played had lesbians for the default miis for the relationship feature’s part.

during the pandemic i got back into tomodachi life and emulated it on my laptop during zoom classes. i wanted hatsune miku to date one of my island's many eligible bachelorettes so i just made her a boy. shoving her into dresses that the game had her coded to hate is the most i've felt like a tyrannical overlord forcing barbies to kiss in years.

I basically hacked my game to force it to make a gay and lesbian couple lol. But it can cause some issues if they get married because when you try entering their house, the game might crash- and whenever theyre sleeping in the same bed, sometimes they kinda lay on the same side just clipping through each other. I assume its because the game assigns the male mii one side and the female mii the other, so when they have the same gender they just lay on top of each other. Thats why i dont do it anymore- When they go on dates or just do stuff together in their apartments the game works fine tho!

I have the Japanese version of Tomodachi Collection and the relationship problem is the same. And also there are no restriction between having a relationship between a younger mii and an older mii which is weird for me.

Not only would we love gay relationships in the next game, but I also have a few more ideas! You could basically choose your Mii’s sexuality to something like “I like… Boys/Girls/Both/Neither” so your asexual miis won’t automatically develop any crushes automatically! I know they probably won’t add a non-binary option for your mii’s gender or anything but they could add pronouns so they won’t be misgendered, and you can change your mii’s gender whenever you want since the original game won’t let you change it. For marriage, there’s this option in the game’s settings where you can turn off the feature for all married couples to have children, but what if you have a couple that you don’t want to have kids? How about an option you can set for each couple individually for if they can have children or not! Finally the wigs and makeup feature from Miitopia’s switch release is definitely ESSENTIAL to add now, but I think that there should be some more modern hairstyles and afro-textured hairstyles added (since the current basic hairstyles for afro hair are few and look terrible) for wigs since the wig feature is so fun! But yea I am really excited for a sequel and I hope my expectations aren’t too high or I’ll be disappointed :(

i remember when i was 8 i watched this youtuber who played tomodachi life. she made a character for her girlfriend, but because only straight miis were allowed she just made her gf tomodachi a dude and changed the hair 😭. they were a really wholesome couple :') i hope they're doing well. this was also how i realized that liking girls was actually a thing lol

As someone who played miitopia (and is very very very gay), there are these things called hangouts which are basically dates, they go out on a date and increases the relationship status!! I think it’s one of those things where it’s heavily implied to be romantic by nature even if the words are not directly spoken out loud- you can definitely interpret it to be platonic but it’s very clear that it isn’t intended to be that way. Honestly I think it fills the dark void in my heart for gay marriage in Tomogahi life (ignore my misspelling)

Another thing Id point out is that Gay Marriage was illegal in Japan until 2020 (which is so stupid), and since marriage plays a big role in the game, that could somewhat explains why you could only be straight in the Tomodachi Life. I really want a sequel, because Japan came to their senses and finally made gay marriage legal and the developers sounded pretty chill about everything.

the trademark for Tomodachi Life recently got renewed by nintendo! this usually means they're coming in with new content or even a sequel, so i'm excited to see if they include same-sex relationships :)

I made miis for both of dogs and I tried to set them up together and one of them was ready to ask the other one out. Everything was perfect until the my mii and my cousins mii showed up. I didn’t know this could happen and I just had to hope everything would go right. It did not, my dog chose my mii. 😢

I've only played the Switch version of Miitopia but I beat it and am trying to 100% it Some of the outings that your miis can go on are so romance coded that it's insane And you can make any 2 miis go on outing regardless of gender (unless they're sick) (then they can't go) Also outings are called dates in the Japanese version Miis can interact with each other while they're in the same room together and certain dialogue from those interactions are "Who do you like?" and "I know who you like" which can be incredibly gay sometimes Also miis can get jealous if someone they have a high relationship level with stays in the same room as someone else for a while

i beat the main campaign of Miitopia for the switch 100% and the drama is so REAL! two party members can get jealous and angry with each other because they both like the same person and will stop mid-fight to fight each other. it’s so messy but i’m here for the drama, especially since you can basically send them out on dates with an item called an Outing Ticket that boosts a relationship with a little cutscene themed around whichever ticket you choose. so you can have them see a movie, get coffee, even spend a day at the beach. i haven’t played Tomodachi Life but after seeing many playthroughs i am obsessed and i agree that Nintendo should port it to the switch but add in sexual orientation as an option for your mii and more gender options. i myself am nonbinary and bisexual so it would be nice if i had a mii who could date any other mii and also be referred to with she/they or they/them pronouns

I always thought it was so odd that Miis of the same gender couldn’t be together, when same-gendered romance options is the standard in stuff like, say, The Sims; even back in 2000. I really hope that we get a proper Tomadachi Life sequel one day, so that maybe I can make my silly little Nintendo avatars gay.

I could absolutely see a section where there were check boxes to select gender and sexuality, like imagine: For gender, they have “male, female,” and “other” that when selected gives a blank line to list the pronouns used (so you could have stuff like multiple pronouns and neos if so desired) And for sexuality I feel like it could go off that and be a “who are they attracted to” and have “male, female, other,” and “none of the above” as options, and that codes which genders they will develop feelings for, if at all. They can select as many as they want, but selecting NoTA would cancel out the others

i still play my copy from 2014 til this day and over the years ive occasionallly made many male miis actually female and vise versa to force my game into being queer hahaha

i love this video so much, i hope they make a sequel for the switch, it would be so so so fun, and i think travellers would be way easier with friends on the switch and stuff and maybe even similar to animal crossing and being able to "explore" the other person's island (probably through a cutscene) and being able to make friends with mii's from other islands! even if it doesn't get remade, i still love the og game, but i would love to have same-sex relationsips, that's really the only complaint i have. it's more like an idle-game, so mabe more things to do would be fun...!

the original version of miitopia does hint to same sex relationships! the sex of the mii doesn't effect how the friendships level up to love and stuff like that it's exactly the same titles and they have all the same interactions (edit: you talked about miitopia on switch and i got excited and wanted to talk about the 3ds version but a bunch of people already clarified this LOL)

For me, Miitopia is the Tomodachi quest extended, like a spin off and although the only relation between mii's is from friendship it's cool, I like it very much. And If two mii's keep going level up with their relationship, later in battle you can seem short moments where they are helping each other, sending cheers in order to fight better, it's very cute 😍

I think now that they have more inclusivity in Pokémon, it’s very much possible that if we do get a tomodachi life sequel then we get to choose our mii’s sexuality.

I wouldn’t say that miitopia is gay, but that’s mostly just because there’s no real romantic relationships. It’s never actually gay, but it’s also never straight either. Personally, I love the vague-relationship approach, at least for the kind of game that miitopia is. Nothing is truly romantic, but also nothing is explicitly platonic either- either way, there’s a WHOLE lot of sweet interactions that could go both ways. Every pair of miis can have any interaction that any other pair can, regardless of gender, and that’s awesome. Personally, I really love making gay characters and watching their relationship grow, seeing them become more affectionate with each other, but I also love watching the ones I think of as just being friends being all sweet and cuddly with each other too, in a friendly kind of way. It’s a great game whether you’re into romance, or just strong friendship. And yes even in the switch version of miitopia, the outings could be just as easily interpreted as friendly hang-outs as they could be a date, depending on however you want to view it. Honestly I usually just see it as a friendly thing since it’s the easiest way to increase a bond, and since there’s rarely anything very romantic about the interactions (they’re not even as romantic as many other aspects of the game), so I just end up letting all my miis go on outings, no matter how I think of their relationship. The lack of strict boundaries really appeals to me personally- I would totally love to have more games with clear romance that incorporates all genders and sexualities and all that jazz- but I also love playing a game where you can decide for yourself whether they’re just friends, whether they’re gay, whether they’re in a poly relationship, etc, and where it’s all equally fulfilling. ..uh but the most explicitly romantic thing I can think of in the game is probably that imp miis can use a move called “charm” which shows the imp kissing another mii, causing the mii to become hyper. My imp miis are just kissing everybody all the time (it’s slightly annoying sometimes lol, particularly when it’s somebody they really shouldn’t be kissing, but also cute sometimes)

I think the reason they have yet to make a sequel might be because miitopia was given an 18+ rating in multiple countries for including gay relationships, hopefully as Nintendo has been outspoken on their support of gay rights/gay marriage in japan, they might disregard the rating and go on to remake tomogotchi life anyway, I got the game with my 2ds for like my 9th birthday growing up so I really so hope they remake it for switch

I always disliked that on the thing where you saw how compatible to miis where together: if you put a boy and a girl it automatically assumed their love compatibility, unlike if you put two miis of the same gender it was their friendship compatibility. Yeah I was and am heavily into farming sims so I always had similar issues with story of seasons locking same sex marriages and dating (literally using mods to make it happen), it's literally why I never bought Tomodachi as I was and still am very strict on not buying those kinda games if same sex relations aren't available Also to answer your question on miitopia, despite kissing or marriage never being stated miis do change if romantically involved. Their partner will be jealous if another mii has a sudden rise in relationship and 2 miis will compete or verbally fight if they are near the same level with the other mii. Dialogue also gets slightly more romantic or flirty, like being more nervous giving gifts or thinking about them more often.

Ive been playing Tomodachi life with The Beatles in the world, and their wives, and I love how John always says “I want the world to remember me for something good, maybe peace” if you didnt know he wrote the popular anti-war song Imagine and Give Peace a Chance (which the Hippie clothes in the game references in the little description paragraph “What your wore is over, give this piece a chance)

Weirdly enough, before I graduated high school I ran into a lot of people who had a 3Ds at my school. Like how I go my whole 3ds life without running into someone with a 3ds, small town stuff... small town stuff.

You should have definitely mentioned that Nintendo’s original response to the backlash against the lack of same-gender relationships in Tomodachi Life was actually… much worse. Much, much worse: “Nintendo never intended to make any form of social commentary with the launch of Tomodachi Life” It was only after the even worse backlash caused by their pathetically out-of-touch response that they apologized. It just goes to show how much our mere existence as queer people is politicized, and how much they fail to realize that, in fact, there’s nothing more political than NOT including us.

when i was little i changed my own gender in the game to be able to be gay. now im trans and bi so… 🤔

i got the game from my bestie a few days ago after really wanting it. It is such a great time. But yeah i had to change the girl character that my mii look-alike was dating to a dude so it was still gay but the game keeps calling him a she still as you can't change the gender after they are dating. Atleast when they get to level 20 they stop complaining about getting clothes from the other sex if you give them it when leveling up. I also own miitopia and massive props to them for letting you have different runs with different acounts. Something Animal crossing could never do. Anyway it is also a blast if you like rpgs. the customization in the game has no limits and he amount of miis doesn't eighter. But i can see it become repeatitive for others. I just really like watching my miis interact and do their thing. it is indeed true that you can have same sex characters get very close but the game made it so there isn't really an option to date. it's more of a way you can decide yourself what you want it to represent. The only thing that is kinda annoying is that if you want to make more miis after the main story game you have to grind A LOT to get them leveled up with the rest. i really hope they make a sequel to Tomodachi life. It has a lot of potential.

I have 150 hours in tomodachi life and I still bring my 3DS in public with streetpass. Also my work around with this is making all of the genders random so I just view it that 1/2 of the island is compatible with the other 1/2 and that's why they can date. But it should be changed in the sequel that's HOPEFULLY coming.
