I love the kaleidoscopic effect of the warp engines. The lights are subtle and it really makes you dream of the original enterprise fantastic.

Growing up I built several TOS Enterprises, but that was the only ship available, and even then I was like "Ehh, it's a cool ship". When the D came out I really fell in love with that ship. BUT NOW, after seeing this model I have a new appreciation for the TOS 1701. Several times I've stopped to look at it and image the crew going about their assignments on the inside of it.

Of all YT videos so far I have watched about the TOMY 1/350 TOS Enterprise, I enjoyed yours the most, and your enthuiasm about it was nice and your enjoyment. You should enjoy this for years to come. I only wish I had know about it, but did not! I would have ordered one for sure. Have a nice day and enjoy your new toy, I mean expensive star ship :) It's amazing looking and I am sure YT videos do not do it justice as compared to seeing in real time.

Hey, just a heads up, I called the Tomy outlet store out of the blue on Monday 1/29/24 last week, and I was able to purchase three of them for $599 each, $30 each shipping. I wasn't expecting to be able to purchase any of them directly from Tomy, but ended getting three. I have no idea how many they had or if they still have any now, but give them a call, you have nothing to lose.

This is super cool!!! I love how the bridge allows for the turbolift to be directly behind the captain's chair, not off-set as is so often claimed. The only disappointment I have is the strange greenish-grey color of the hull. Should be more like white. Otherwise, excellent!!!

The bridge is supposed to be offset. The turbolift is in line with the neck of the ship, while the bridge is rotated off-center. Or at least that's how it's been shown in the blueprints and such.

Not necessarily, the Franz Joseph plans (and others) leave a lot to be desired, I have them too. Very inaccurate if you try to scale something from them. The dude building this thing gives the best explanations as to why the bridge and TL shaft may actually be inline with the Constitution Class main axis and the TL doors are NOT. I purchased two. One to remain "Mint in box" for the next 10 years or so. Screw covers and seams look fine, barely noticeable until you look. Stand 5 feet back and it's gorgeous. I also don't understand all these weenies worrying about the support for the primary hull WHEN assembled. Mine is fine without it. In fact, it doesn't even rest on it when I place it under (1/128" gap?). I don't live in CA, so earthquake's not an issues, tornadoes maybe, but I won't be worrying about that if I get hit by one of 'em!

@@TheMakersCave word dude! My wife is now calling it the "other" wife lol. I almost can't keep my hands off her either lol. I do wish her port side saucer lights (Deck 6?) lit up as that's my display side. Not because of hiding the starboard side covers, because I display ALL my ship models port side so they appear going forward to the viewers left. Like an Engineering Drawing. I told the aforementioned wife that's the midwatch crew and they're sleeping so the lights are off! But I've been waiting 57 of my 61 years on this 3rd planet from the sun for this baby, NO regrets! So glad I didn't cancel like the other children did. So when is the ST:TMP Refit coming lol? TOMY, you hear that?? I'll take TWO!

Just a follow up to my previous message. What are your thoughts on where the batteries are placed in the model? For the AAA batteries, you have to remove the saucer and flip it around to get to the battery compartment. Not so bad for the AA as you can just unscrew the deflector dish do your replacement.
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 8 ай бұрын
Being a partwork builder I've seen lots of REALLY bad battery placement that makes changing them a daunting process. I think Tomy did a pretty good job balancing placement/changing with the aesthetics of the model. I would have like to have seen some contacts between the star drive unit and the saucer so when it's together the saucer can bypass it's batteries and use the star drive batteries, that way you only have to worry about one set of batteries. I do whish I could leave it lit for longer durations but I have no idea on how they would have put in an external power port and still kept the looks.

This Tomy Enterprise has proven to be a big success with sales. From what I understand there's a waiting list for more of these to be built. I'm also seeing this model being sold on ebay for $1500. Anyway, if Tomy builds the Enterprise refit version and prices it at $1,000 will you buy it?
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 8 ай бұрын
From what I hear Tomy isn't going to produce anymore. But yes, if they release a refit version I would get it at $1,000. Being a partwork builder where the models can cost up to $2,000 AND you have to assemble them, I would consider that a deal :)
@chrisfischer7918
@chrisfischer7918 8 ай бұрын
There's been much consternation from others about this Tomy Enterprise on using the support for the saucer. It's too heavy to not have a support, however, it looks awkward as hell to use the support. They're looking into possible alternatives that will do the job and look decent. Will you be looking to do the same? Or are you ok with the support that came with the model?
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 8 ай бұрын
Actually, yes, I'm looking at ways to modify the stand. I agree that the stand is unsightly but Tomy had to find a way to make a support that solved both showing the model together and separated. I might take away the saucer support and replace the plastic rod with an acrylic rod that can hold more wait and stay the same size. Another option is to remove the saucers supports completely and use a acrylic rod at the very front of the saucer section. This would allow for the details under the center of the saucer to be seen. Some people have just removed the saucers support completely and just relied on the mechanical screws of the two sections. I'm not a fan of that as over time I think the stress could lead to drooping or even breakage. I think I might go with the very front support so the underside of the saucer can be seen.
@chrisfischer7918
@chrisfischer7918 8 ай бұрын
I know I've been bombing you with a lot of questions so I'll try to make this my last one. Do you think Tomy should've used a thinner metal for the saucer to make it lighter? If it's lighter, then perhaps the neck section of the model could support the weight without worry and there would no need for that clear plastic support.
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 8 ай бұрын
They could have but the weight feels so perfect. I don't think they could keep the details if they went any thinner. BTW, ask anything you want :)

I'm hoping the interest in this model will allow them to make more ships, like the refit. This was originally a crowd funded program that need 2,000 backers, a goal they reached last year. Here's a link to the page, but it only has a link to add it to a wishlist. I believe, right now, that only the original backers received one. Its a nice ship BUT, the unsightly stand and the support for the dish just make it look really ugly. Im sure they could have done without that messy look.
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 9 ай бұрын
I have to agree that the stand takes away a little from the aesthetics but I can understand their thinking. Until you hold the model in your hands you can't fully appreciated the weight of this thing. It's mainly the supports for the Saucer Section that are unsightly but they designed it so it could be displayed separated. I'm not doing that so I plan to replace the clear plastic rod with an acrylic rod that can bear more weight and since the two sections are physically connected I can remove that large Saucer support and just go with the acrylic rod as a Saucer support.
@user-nc8zw2rl4m
@user-nc8zw2rl4m 9 ай бұрын
I’m given to understand that you do not need the saucer support. The screw and posts in the neck are designed to stop the saucer from drooping. Tomy recommends the extra saucer support for displaying the saucer separation and for making the model stable and less likely to be knocked over. But the central stand is effectively all you need. That is how I display this amazing model.Paul H
