Tonik is finally out and everyone's excited about it! They're the first ever Neobank in the Philippines and they're offering up to 6% interest on your savings. This video will be an overview of Tonik bank. We'll discuss what neobanks are, a quick background of Tonik, what products Tonik has to offer, how to create a Tonik account, and my thoughts based on my experience with Tonik.
Tonik is the first to receive a digital-only banking license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). They call themselves a Neobank, which means that they're a pure digital bank. As of recording this video, they offer 4 products: Tonik Wallet (1% p.a. interest), Solo Stash (4% p.a. interest) and Group Stash (4.5% p.a. interest), Time Deposit (up to 6% p.a. interest), and a Virtual Debit Card. Tonik has no minumum balance, no dormancy fees, no minimum deposits, and no account closure. Most of the bank fees are currently free! They're also PDIC-insured up to Php500,000!

I do feel that the cash in options are still a bit limited so hopefully they'll be able to address that, but yes, I don't expect the 6% to last forever too that's why I quickly locked it in as well. I understand that digital banks have higher interest rate but it usually just in the beginning. Interest rates fluctuates like in ING it was 4% then now it's only 2.5%. Same goes for CIMB and GSave.

With the news that ING is exiting the Retail Banking industry in the Philippines I wanted to know where I can transfer my savings that would give better interest rates compared to the regular commercial banks available. Appreciate your thoughts on this, especially the part wherein you stayed realistic about the interest rates, you set expectations that it might not stay the same forever and we need to acknowledge that but also enjoy the fact that it's currently available and a good rate at that!

High interest rates encourages customers to deposit. Interest rates p.a. may decrease as low as 2.5% but still higher than local savings account.
