Once briefly met Tony after a show in Detroit. I came up to him and he leaned in close, staring unblinking into my eyes to see who I was. He thanked me for my very high opinions about his writing and the band in general. Never forget his warm smile and hand shakes! Black Sabbath will live forever!!!!

I once met Ozzy after a gig in Belfast in the 1980's. I asked him for his autograph. He told me and my friends to fuck off. I'm not complaining. We thought it was cool.

There is so much to say about Tony Iommi from 1972 and in the years that followed. At the age of 15 teen I was out to meet Tony and I did he was at that time I believe 21 years of age and over the years numerous times we met over the years . At the time I first met him and through out all the years every time I met him it has been a very enriched time in my life as me being a guitar player from the age of 8 and it was just what I needed in my life to to balance everything out in my life growing up. The picture of him on the bench I have of me and him in that same year the same look with a black turtleneck sweater and cross with him wearing a gold watch. I will just leave it for now just like this . Want to always say through out my life when I think of Tony I felt like I had a big brother and through out my life if I could have ever been that way to some one else I gave it a good try ,love you Tony for everything you did for me we will talk again so I can thank you about everything you did for me in my life.

Great interview, always love hearing what Tony has to say. The bench and Black Sabbath Bridge is so important, it represents the significance and contribution that Geezer, Ozzy, Tony and Bill have made for music, and their city. It’ll be amazing to see it up close, in the future! Black Sabbath 1968-After Forever 💜

I was there in May '19 and was looking for the bench. I was near the bridge but couldn't go across because of construction. I asked a worker about the bench and he didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Glad to see it's back, I'll visit it next time I'm in the UK.

Great interview Christian . Tony is such a great down to earth fellow. Such an influencial God of a guitarist. He is much loved not only for starting Sabbath with Bill, Geezer, and Ozzy but for being so open with and appreciative of the fanbase. I have been a fan for 50 years and now turning on my grandsons (3) on to these legends for the next 50 and beyond.

This interview is amazing thank you! This just confirms what I believed in since I first heard Sabbath music back in the late 70s... Mr Iommi is the real deal, not only is he a man of success, he's also a man of value... very rare, can one achieve one without comprimising the other. I'm glad I experienced Sabbath back then at an early age... 40+ years later and I still can't get enough of their music. A sincere thank you!

In the 70’s Birmingham City Council tried & succeeded in closing down many of the Rock venues in the City centre. Bogarts, & the Golden Eagle being the main ones. Now there's tourist money to be made its now "The Home of Metal". Obviously it's completely different generations but it still leaves a bitter taste.

they were WW2 era people fighting a culture war they ended up losing. Metal was a soft target, but the problem was zero volence, you never hear of mobs or brawls after metal shows. They were trying to preserve the English way of life and saw hippy culture and all it's off shoots as irresponsible. I think they targeted Metal because of the Nazi regalia that was very common in the early 80's. The real end to English culture was the EU and Operation Sea Lion part deux, "the slow drip".

It is a good idea to really make an effort to make one more Black Sabbath studio album with the original members only.. no live anything just a studio work the way the Beatles decided to do, with the intention to put on that second nothing borderline. A good suggestion..record it all in England none of this California sunshine inspiration..and on some of the songs use the equipment and instruments that were used on the first 3-4 albums as from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on the sound on the records changed permanently.

@@smofla13 It's not dead, just gone to the underground, where honestly, I believe it's better-served by its audience, which is smaller, of course, but vastly more loyal and dedicated. Nuclear Blast recently signed the band Green Lung (London band, yes, but who knows? Maybe they'll snoop about B'ham some day and find another band just as good), who seemingly blew up almost overnight, so there is still much interest in the style developed there, but it's coming from other locations at the moment.

well, if this comes to monuments, benches, or any statue, there will be no room as there are other hard rock 'n' roll bands that also deserve recognition as for example MOTORHEAD, RAINBOW, AC/DC, JUDAS PRIEST, DEEP PURPLE, UFO, URIAH HEEP, BLUE OYSTER CULT, MANILLA ROAD, SAXON, and even SPINAL TAP although they were a fictitious band, still their rock and roll was heavy and deep.
