Sandy Golden is speaking out for the first time in more than two decades about her estranged relationship with her famous daughter, Tonya Harding. She says they haven't spoken or seen each other since 2002. Their tumultuous relationship is being thrust back into the national spotlight in the highly anticipated movie "I, Tonya." Golden admits being tough but says she was never abusive. She says she worked three jobs to pay for Tonya's training and even sewed her costumes by hand. #InsideEdition

Tonya's mother left her family when Tonya was in high school. Tonya lived with friends after that. Her mother was married six times. Tonya's dad was her 5th husband. She walked out on her family to marry husband number 6. People at the rinks where Tonya skated heard how her mother yelled at Tonya, her coaches knew that her mother abused her. It was no secret. Children do not naturally hate their parents but rather bend over backwards to please the parents from infancy on. The reason Tanya hates this woman is because the mother is a narcissistic, abusing piece of work. I am glad the movie is coming out in a few weeks because it will highlight how Tanya, the child was abused by Sandy. It is my sincere hope that Tanya and her husband keep Sandy away from their child. Abusive parents always try to blame the child when the child breaks their silence about the abuse. I believe in this case, there were lots of witnesses to Sandy's abuse and her character. Tanya's problems in life and her shortcomings all stem from her abuse at the hands of this awful mother. I am looking forward to the movie but know that I will have an especially difficult time watching the scenes where little girl Tanya is emotionally and physically abused by this witch.

There was a lot more than “ a swat” that took place. Friends, coaches, and casual observers have all mentioned the abuse they witnessed taking place. “ She was nice, back then”....(I.E: Back when she was a small child and couldn’t defend herself)“ I didn’t have any problems with her until she was a teenager”. After a lifetime of abusing her child, she abandoned her at 15 years old, telling her that she didn’t want her, and then took off with her soon-to-be SEVENTH husband without looking back and she’s shocked this caused a bit of a “ problem”?! 🙄

I just recently watched I, Tonya. I could and couldn’t believe the abuse this woman inflicted on her daughter. The part that got me in the movie though was when her mother showed up at Tonya’s house with all the reporters outside acting like she cared then actually had a voice recorder in her pocket. That would have been the last straw for me also. The mother should have been asked if she actually did that or not.

My mom harm me when I was a kid. When I was 18 I left home to never come back now I'm 26 and I live so far from her. And even though she didn't love me, man I wished nothing in the world but to feel what's it like to be loved by her. Not to excuse Tonya, but as a human being, she definitely was dealt a rough hand in the family department.

Things that make you go hmmm. In 2004 basketball player, Ron Artest jumped into the stands to physically fight a drunk fan and all he got was suspended. Tonya--fired FOREVER. In 2002 Salt Lake's judges cheated in the pair figure skating judging in favor of Russia. NO ONE was fired or suspended for life! Tonya--fired FOREVER. Recently in 2010 you HAD to do a quadruple jump. Evan Lysachek did not and "won" gold over Russian, Evgeni Plushenko, who DID the jump. So you think hey someone should give up their medal or chance at the next Olympics, right? Nope didn't happen! AND say it with me: Tonya--fired FOREVER.
@clineeco
@clineeco 6 жыл бұрын
If they did not fire Tonya, then the rest of the other athletes may feel intimidated by her. With the rumors spreading around that she is responsible for the attack and if the incident was not properly investigated and everyone went along doing their business, other skaters will be afraid of doing something that might upset Tonya out of fear of being assaulted. The rest of the athletes will go on thinking that violence at the end of the day is tolerated and trying to do the right thing wouldn't matter. This will make talented skaters afraid to pursue the sport. Among the things you mentioned above, nobody is directly affected. The motives were not meant to directly implicate hurt on someone. If the US Figure Skating Association tolerated Tonya Harding, it would create a ripple effect that would cause fear, distrust, it would promote violence and draw away people and sponsors. It has the potential to do the sport a pretty big damage

Im in the UK and remember the incident with Nancy. I was around 9 at the time and thought Nancy was so pretty and Tonya was so evil. I forgot about it until I saw the film, did a little research after and my goodness, nowI feel for Tonya. She was abused by her mum (yes you worked v hard, but that doesn't stop you praising your daughter. If you felt that bad about her supposed lack of thanks you could have stopped funding her years before. You wanted the glory and money she would bring you), and partner and snubbed by the sports snobs, but she was good! She may have a hard manipulative side but I think many abuse victims do, as a defence mechanism. Now, as a grown up and a mum myself, I just want to give her a cuddle and tell her she's worth it.
