Catarina's stupidity doesn't just serve as an amusing or endearing trait- it also helps prove how sincere her good intentions are. If she were intelligent, she could, at least in theory, only act kindly in a calculated effort to avoid the doom flags. But Catarina, who has virtually no understanding of the relationship between cause and effect(e.g. not realizing that her engagement to Geordo led her father to adopt Keith as his heir), can't easily predict the results of her actions, so her kindness comes off as genuine, rather than self-serving.

Still being convinced this was the world of the visual novel, I can understand why Catarina continued to fear school be a route that ends in her death or exile in spite of all evidence pointing otherwise. However, Catarina has blatantly shown to not be able to make correct conclusions out of many situations that can't be excused by "well that's how it went in the game." By episode 6 I was openly wondering if Catarina was brain damaged and then realized that wasn't a far fetched possibility.

I can understand Catarina being nervous since she was caught off guard and knows how this event is supposed to go normally, but even she can't think of anything she did that was evil. Not to mention all the key figures in her doom event have been her close friends(and harem) for a decade at this point. I'm genuinely shocked she didn't feel a bit more confident that she at least wouldn't get completely reemed by the doom event.

This scene feels kinda similar of a situation to you trying to impress your crush but then your family comes in and tells them embarrassing truths about you
