A MESSAGE TO THE KZfaq TEAM: I have deleted the videos that could've been perceived as reposted content. Please let me know if any of the remaining videos are not compliant.
The audio track is unique (not reused) and has been created by me, partially based on my own edit of the album track (editing, synchronization, spatial processing) combined with my original bootleg live recording (heavily EQed and mixed in for for the high frequency content).
Judging by its popularity, the resulting audio provides a level of immersion that is unique to this clip.
The video is a cut of several bootleg videos that I have personally processed and put together (stabilization, color correction, synchronization).

So many people are talking about Danny and Maynard, but Justin Chancellor is also an important factor in the sound and feel of TOOL. I think he’s one of the most brilliant, inventive and downright brutal bass players ever.

Bass player here- can confirm. Justin's stuff has me stop and go "damn that's brilliant and out there and I love it" and " would have never though that weird chord could work there but damn that's spicy" all the time. Challenging to figure out and play but the songs I know are SO SATISFYING to play.

Love this comment. TOOL and in particular Justin....have been my favorite musicians almost as long as I’ve been alive. Justin helped me pick up a bass and leave my guitars behind. I always should have been a bassist. Not nearly as many boundaries sonically (Adam Jones excluded) as a guitarist.

It's because IT IS the studio version, whoever this is just added some crowd noise and some reverb to the mix to make it sound live. It was a classic trick in the 90's to get people to buy "LIVE BOOTLEGS". if you don't believe me, play the original and this at the same time, there are literally no differences in vocal tones, guitar, bass, drums, nothing.

Lyrically speaking, this song brings me as close to God as I want to come, as a living, breathing person. Masters of the craft of musicality- the instrumental abilities of this band , go places beyond my imagination. And I say this as a drummer of 36 years. There never has been, or will be, another band that captures all senses, in the way Tool has. I extend to them my greatest level of respect.

But do you want to be close to it or inside of that evil? I tell you from 1st person experience- it is the coldest,loneliest place you can even imagine being. I would give ANYTHING to walk in God's warmth and protection again. My fall from Him was by choice. And it was the wrong choice.

Adam Jones's seemingly effortless playing on this song is pretty remarkable. Everything was perfectly in sync through all those complex sections and weird time signature changes. To be that tight while doing that crazy pull-off riff is insane. I love when Tool is going at full throttle with all four of them doing their own complex thing that somehow interweaves into this enormous sonic entity that hovers over the stage like an angry dragon.
@fokker34
@fokker34 2 жыл бұрын
I've always thought that, if you pick each players section apart, it follows the simple chord riff formula and the magic is in the timing and tone. Adam is a virtuoso and these guys blend their layers so well.

I'm honestly wondering if it is the studio recording. It sounds exactly the same, including the subtle nuances like Maynard's intonations and Adam's pitch harmonics. Everything sounds identical to the studio. I honestly don't think it's possible to replicate those kinds of subtleties in any scenario. All the overdubbed vocal harmonies from the studio are in there too (and there's only one maynard, no one else is there singing them) I could be wrong here, but I feel like theres a bit of trickery with this live performance.

Here from the king's mountain view Here from a wild dream come true Feast like a sultan I do On treasures and flesh, never few But I, I would wish it all away If I thought I'd lose you just one day The devil and his had me down In love with the dark side I'd found Dabble in all the way down Up to my neck soon to drown But you changed that all for me Lifted me up, turned me round So I I I I I would I would I would Wish this all away Prayed like a martyr dusk to dawn Begged like a hooker all night long Tempted the devil with my song And got what I wanted all along But I And I would If I could And I would Wish it away Wish it away Wish it all away Wanna wish it all away No prize that could hold sway Or justify my giving away My center So if I could I'd wish it all away If I thought tomorrow would take you away You're my peace of mind, my home, my center I'm just trying to hold on One more day Dim my eyes Dim my eyes Dim my eyes if they should compromise our fulcrum Wants and needs divide me then I might as well be gone Shine on forever Shine on benevolent sun Shine on upon the broken Shine until the two become one Shine on forever Shine on benevolent sun Shine on upon the severed Shine until the two become one Divided I'm withering away Divided I'm withering away Shine on upon the many, light our way Benevolent sun Breathe in union Breathe in union Breathe in union Breathe in union Breathe in union So as one survive Another day and season Silence, legion, save your poison Silence, legion, stay out of my way

Tool have never been and probably never will be the kind of band to sell out to the trappings of aggressive marketing and self promotion. They've always let their fame come to them, and with such talent, that's all they need to stay popular. Play it, and they will come. Every member of this band is a top notch artist, and all they ever focus on is giving their live audiences the best sound they possibly can.

TOOL is by far and away my favorite band, and always will be. With that being said, this is NOT a live performance; not the audio, at least. The audio is straight from 10,000 Days with some reverb and crowd noise added. Plus, in some shots, Adam is wearing a white shirt with white pants, while in other shots he's wearing a gray/charcoal-colored shirt. Also, notice the perfect harmonization with Maynard's singing in the "damn my eyes" part. TOOL doesn't use vocal harmonies live. All of this being said, this was masterfully put together and synched to the video (probably from at least 2 different performances). Enjoyable nonetheless... there's always time to enjoy TOOL!
