How to make toothbrush rug needles. Remember the beauty of a toothbrush rug is to make something wonderful out of scraps of material, and whatever you can make for a needle. No cost.

I watched your videos and was inspired to make a toothbrush needle. Forest one was from a cheap toothbrush. It was great, but I have arthritis and it was just to pain full so I went to the barn and found an old deer antler, had my son cut of a piece about 4 and a half inches long the end was shattered so tryed to smooth it out myself. LOL asked husband to fix it for me, long story, sorry about that, he took it to work had a friend there to put in a slot at the thick end, and round out the end, did not need anything done to the point. It'll never breck on me. But I had to try and make one out of a maple tree branch. It was as enjoyable as making the rug. Thank you so much for the inspiration to making the needles.

Good ideas! Glad you found a solution for the arthritis! All my crochet needles now have to have "handles" for the same reason. So far, my toothbrush handle hasn't hurt my hands.....yet. You never know when it will with Arthritis :)

thank you. my husband made mine from a piece of dowel wood. he pointed one end. the other end he used a small drill bit. it works so far. this is my first. so if you have any tips, I would appreciate it. it believe I am going with a circle shaped rug. I am afraid of goofing.

I actually think oval rugs are easier. You don't add along the sides, so you don't have to think as much when you are making it. Whereas a circle rug you always have to consider if you are adding the right amount of stitches to lay flat. Good luck with the rug! The biggest secret is to tug consistently,. That is why I say first rugs are usually not great, you have to get used to how hard you tug and develop a consistent pattern.
