I started cutting the edges off and the corners out and then started to rip.. but I couldn't tear it. Do I just have to pull harder? Or could it be coz it's polyester?
@momeberhard5265

Yes, it is because it is either polyester or microfiber

Could u do it the same for 1 1/2" strips?
@momeberhard5265
@momeberhard5265 Жыл бұрын
Yes, in fact the vintage rag rugs were in small strips like that. I use the larger strips to make a thicker rug that beater bars on vacuums won't get caught in.

Is there a specific direction to rip sheets so that the rip stays where it's supposed to? My sheet is going wonky (smaller and bigger) as I rip.
@momeberhard5265

I am guessing that you are trying to rip micro fiber sheets. They do not rip well. This video shows cotton and cotton/ poly sheets. I have tried to rip micro fiber sheets, and can't. I also don't know how they will hold up in long term.

OMG. This is the most perfect "how to" for tearing sheets. Thank you so much. I was cutting sheets earlier this evening with a rotary cutter because the first "tear" on the first sheet ripped unevenly as you have described will happen at times. I was doing this cutting before I found your video. I will give ripping another try using your technique because that would sure be a lot faster than using a rotary cutter in my opinion.

When you accidentally rip a bag, you can use a piece of tape and still use it.

Have you found it's best to keep the same type of fabric or can you mix it up a little? I have cotton sheets and flannel sheets. I was hoping to mix them for a good color pattern, but I can work out an alternative if that's not wise.
@momeberhard5265
@momeberhard5265 2 жыл бұрын
The trouble with flannel is that the cotton fibers are shorter. Flannel in rugs will wear out faster than regular cotton or cotton/poly mix.

What is the advantage of braiding 4 strands as opposed to 3 strands?
@momeberhard5265
@momeberhard5265 3 жыл бұрын
4 strands makes a thicker braid, so you don't have to go around the rug as many times. You can just do a 3 strand, but it will take longer.
