He was implying she got famous off that type of bullshit tabloid style daytime TV show like Jerry Springer: farming views by having outlandish guests and talking points on the show. Such as bringing little people on the show and airing they're dirty laundry to get more viewers. Most of these TV hosts started off doing some pretty crass stuff I'm the beginning before finding their niche and tailoring their act to suit. Him saying she stood on the heads of those little people is just him saying she exploited them as a means to raise herself up, gain more recognition, become more famous, etc. It's just a figure of speech but the way he delivers it is great and given the scenario he paints I can't help but imagine Oprah literally clamoring over a crowd of little people: standing on their heads with no regard.
@randomuser26192 жыл бұрын
@@Simo258 When Oprah first started, she was competing against tabloid talk shows (Geraldo Rivera, Sally Jessy Raphael, even Mort Downey Jr), and therefore she was pressured to have lurid, tabloid-y themes to attract viewers. At that point Oprah did not have much control over her own show, so she went along with it. But once she became famous, she used her leverage to ditch the tabloid themes, and started producing a more mainstream program. Bill is pointing out that Oprah was being a bit of a hypocrite when she confronted Lance Armstrong for his steroid use, since she had done something similar herself (i.e., she did whatever it took to get to the top).

@Fe Cu Or like almost every rationally minded person PC culture seemed harmless at one time and then greatly exacerbated in scale? Though to be fair I'll take bluenettes bitching about the wage gap over Christians bloviating how good their god is and how good of people they are while thinking of new ways to invade the secular government with what amounted to (and sometimes really were) blasphemy laws.

@Fe Cu PC, at its core isn’t a problem. It’s good that we’ve evolved beyond some indecent behavior. But once we cleaned up, people kept looking for things to complain about and they have made it intolerable. Just like social justice is a good thing, but the ultra left nuts who complain about everything ruin it for everyone.

Having been around since the beginning of his career, I have never, ever, ever understood what people see in Conan. The best thing he does it gets out of the way and lets the professionals be funny. I sampled his stuff on and off for decades and it always came off like a 6th grader's first attempt at writing a joke. As read by a 4th grader. With the timing sense of a 1st grader.
