One thing that someone suggested to save money on water for cleaning and personal hygiene was to put water in your emptied laundry soap containers, especially the ones with the spouts in them. Great for washing hands when other water is at a premium.

I’ve been cooking extra rice (with salt only) the last 3 years when I make it. I dehydrate the extra. I just store it in a container. I don’t think there’s a need to vacuum seal unless, perhaps, you want to store it for a decade. Now I don’t need extra water and gas to cook it. Just a bit of water to rehydrate or drop as is into soup…..oh yeah! I dehydrate cooked pinto and other hard beans as well. I just made chili with all dehydrated foods, peppers, beans, ground beef, onions etc…..even the cheese was dehydrated. it was perfect and done in a few minutes.

Thank you for encouraging people to start prepping. I think a lot of people are starting to say hey....I need to start storing food. I tell young people its not to late, start picking up duplicate items on your grocery list. Use one , save one. Pasta, sauce, canned things. Then you will be storing things you know you like. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge!

Great list. I would add as a bonus powdered milk for long term and canned milk. My latest stock up was Auguson Farms quick oatmeal. 10 pounds sealed for $20.59 at Walmart. 90 serviings. Comes out to about 23 cents a serving. I just chuck it in the basement and don't have to worry about it. I do shop Sam's Club and with every order I throw in honey and maple syrup. These times are getting so scary. I like having the oatmeal because I know it's something I can eat every day without ever getting tired of it.

Hi Jinne! Thank you for this video. All important things to stock up on. Meat hasn't been on sale at my local grocery stores lately but I still am keeping an eye out. And you know how I feel about lentils. Your recipe for lentil soup has changed my life. It's my favorite soup and so good for you too. I can serve it over rice and have a complete protein. I've been concentrating on storing water lately. It's an area that I had been neglecting. I'm going to town tomorrow and plan on getting several more gallons.

I try to do more focused shopping of sales then stock whatever that product is. In time a nice stock is built up for much much cheaper. Dont forget some packaged seasoned foods as they go on sale like Knorr rice and pasta mixes and Rice a Roni. Buy the maximum. These are great when you need something fast and tasty. Add a bag of frozen veg and cut up some sausages, shred or cube up some cheaper meat cuts and you have a hearty fast meal! A big tip for saving money is learn to pressure can meats. Its the simplest thing to do to save big money on sales and save freezer space. Buy spices in bulk. Vitacost is awesome. We keep the large plastic tea bottles and store extra water in them. We also have 6 gallon emergency water bottle full on a bathtub that we never use. Also some is in the basement. We lost water pressure for a week and lost heat for almost a month in January. Firewood, stored water and our Berkey water filter SAVED US. We also had to melt snow to flush the toilets.
