My dad in the 90’s accidentally got a taipan. The guy who sold it to him told him it was some sort of colubrid. My dad didn’t think it would be venomous because he didn’t think anyone would sell a venomous snake without telling the person about it. The snake was tame as a dog, he held it everyday without knowing. Was never bit, he found out it was venomous and indeed a taipan after feeding it.

@@jackiemoon1556 same here, though not so much the "You saw me, sorry, no witnesses." I commented separately, but I grew up around a lot of them. Regular encounters for around two years. Even when startled, their preference was to move away. I think the whole "unprovoked" idea is just human ignorance. Most of us don't understand how a snake behaves, or what it perceives to be a threat. We're also not as aware of our environment as we should be. If we're trudging through snake country, as an alien entity, of course we'll appear threatening.

These things happen ya'll. There's a whole team of people making these for us to enjoy, and some of them are just as smart, resourceful, and incredible as Forrest... Only difference is they know tech and software, not necessarily every minute detail us nerds notice about nature. Most likely an honest mistake. Still loved the vid of our Bro-ologist and can confirm that these mistakes aside, I'm still going to give as much time as I can to jingles, themes, or whatever else is needed from me :)

Someone once mentioned to me that there is a difference between deadly snakes and dangerous snakes. That difference being how likely you are to actually be bitten by one. For example the eastern brown snake is far more dangerous to Australians because of its close proximity to humans. It also has the most confirmed bites along with its high toxicity. Unlike the inland taipan which is far more deadly but also far more reclusive. So your chances of an encounter with one is slim to none. Long story short. Forrest should do a top 10 on the most DANGEROUS snakes on the planet

I live in central Australia, we call then nope ropes and danger noodles. The Mulga snake (which I think is called King Brown, mulga being common name) comes in all sorts of colours. I understood that the mulga snake in particular delivers a lot of Venom in a single bite. I'm surprised the death adder wasn't in the list. And yes Australia has lots of bitey n Stingy things. Watch out in the water, the Australian irrikange jellyfish is something you defo don't want to be stung by. There's also a comedic song called "come to Australia, where you might accidentally get killed" mentions some of the animals

I was training in the South Australian desert with the Australian Army a few years ago. And I never knew I was right smack bang in the middle of '' Inland Taipan'' territory. But they are so shy, that one has to actually go looking for these snakes to actually find them. But I remember a Huge '' Mulga Snake'' passed my feet whilst I was in the Northern Territory of Australia with the military again, and I was so shocked, i was just silent, and said nothing to no one.

My brother inlaw was bitten by a juvenile eastern brown snake earlier this year. It tagged him between his toes (he was wearing thongs/flip flops). He didn't realise he had been bitten. We realised something was wrong when he started sweating profusely, became all disoriented and lost his vision. We suspected a snake bite and called an ambulance, shortly after he went unconscious and collapsed. I located the bite location and applied the compression bandages and splinted his leg. The ambulance arrived and took him away and he survived! The paramedics said the bandages and splint saved his life.

I was bitten by an eastern brown about 20 years ago. Walking through tallish grass checking a fence in central Victoria. I was wearing jeans and boots. It struck me on the side of the leg at knee height. It felt like being hit by a tennis ball. Scared the crap out of me. I must admit to a little bit of panic at the time as I was on my own without a mobile phone and 10mins walk back to the house. It was a wet bite as the jeans were positive at the hospital, but I was fortunate that none of the venom entered.

I happened to live on a property growing up that wound up having the largest amount of individual eastern brown nests in the city. We would routinely find them sunning on our porch, or in the kitchen sink. We'd have to tap the toilet bowl with a stick to check if any had coiled inside the lip. We'd store our shoes high off the ground to avoid any crawling inside them. Calling handlers became a pretty run-of-the-mill thing for us. Honestly, when we stumbled onto them in the house, they were just as startled as we were, but were more interested in retreating than in standing off. I think that speaks to what it's like to actually share space with other animals, and how our behaviour can signal safety. We did not attempt to harm the animals. We didn't leave out traps or poisons or anything of the kind. We gradually developed an understanding of where they were localised, and developed strategies for carefully moving around our home. To be honest, to a degree they were doing us a service by snatching up rodents. I think there must have been a point where we were all just so used to each other that the animals did not feel the need to become aggressive in this particular environment. All this said, it did get to the point where these snakes were present on a daily basis. My youngest sibling had just been born and my parents decided to make the tough call to get this "problem" handled. By the time the handlers had successfully cleared the property, they had found over fifty individual nests (some were old, others were currently in use). To be clear, this was not a rural property, and it wasn't a large property. This was a three bedroom house in the suburbs (before the area became gentrified).

As a child many moons ago I lived in a small camp community off a beaten path in a small town called Lightning Ridge (NSW) with my mother and her boyfriend with all of about 10 people in the area total living in a combination of abandoned caravans and camp huts made from wood, tin, plastic and fly screen. One very hot day a very large Eastern Brown Snake came slithering into our camp around our extinguished fire place area at lightning speed. I tell you this thing could tag you so fast your head would spin. We stayed indoors watching through the fly screen while this snake had pretty much taken over all of our open space while it decided it's next move. After a short while the snake had made it's way to the other end of the camp and continued on through the bush. But for that short time it held a small community hostage simply for having it's presence in the camp. The Eastern Brown has a reputation for being the most "Dangerous" snake in Australia. It has even killed a man in Australia in 2024 and they have killed many more in the past. They are super aggressive, fast, agile, confident and very unpredictble. It's a formidable creature that has had the respect of the locals for hundreds of years. The Inland Taipan has the most toxic venom but as stated in the video it is highly reclusive and it tries to avoid humans as much as possible and they are only found in a specific part of the country . The brown snake is found all over the country and for some reason are far less afraid of humans.

Thanks for an interesting video. Well I nearly stood on the head of an Eastern Brown - we both stayed cool - I lived to tell the tale. Sat on a rock with a Death Adder coiled up in a crevice on top of Cunningham's Gap. Have had a few encounters with a feisty little snake we have round here the Richmond River Rough Scale which is almost a potent as a Tiger snake. Good old Australia always carry a torch and look at your every footfall.

I dont know how many encounters you've had with the Black Mamba but as someone who's lived and worked in the Bush in South Africa there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that its the most dangerous snake in the world. Ive seen some Mambas not only display aggression when you come into contact with them but actual pursuit type aggression where they've cornered workers in the Game Reserve where i worked. Ive handled Puff Adders, Mozambique spitting cobras ( I was even bitten by Mozambiqe spitting cobra while asleep though thankfully it was a dry bite though it was a tense 10 to 20 minutes until we realized it) Forest Cobras, Boomslangs, Twig/Vine Snakes, but i refuse to handle a Black Mamba, they scare the shit out of me. There's a saying here that if you go walking out in the bush there are only three things to really fear, a Dagga Boy (lone male buffalo), Leopard and the Black Mamba. Another saying is that if you're out in the bush and you get bitten by a Black Mamba look for a spot where you're happy to die in. Another factor that makes them so dangerous is that especially in the Kwazulu Natal area they are becoming extremely prevalent not just in rural areas occupied by people but even urban areas now so the occurrence of human to snake encounters is very high compared to the inland taipan which we know has the most potent venom though is found in such remote areas and is not necessarily such an aggressive snake, so which one out of the two is more of a threat at the end of the day

The saw-scaled holds the title, because it causes the most deaths. I've handled a few cobras and a lot of vipers, from a chilled out Gaboon to a pretty active Fer-de-Lance. A Black Mamba in the wild (not in captivity), is by far the hardest snake to handle, because it is huge and probably the Usain Bolt of the snakes. You have to be very fit and know everything about these snakes. In captivity, they will calm down from time to time and you can handle them better. And of course, like most of the snakes, the Mamba will walk away if possible. They don't want to bite anybody. And when you go by numbers, the "Big Four" in India are the deadliest.

If it's so dangerous why are there so few deaths? Mambas are NOT aggressive snakes. They are indeed very defensive when they feel threatened. I bet with a little bit of investigation I could poke big holes in your stories of BM's cornering and pursuing people. It's always the same...it's the people who cornered the snake, and its attempts at escaping are portrayed as chasing and pursuing as you put it. All you're doing is contributing to undeserved bad reputations which lead to people killing snakes indiscriminately.

I’m born and bred Tasmanian, and I’ve seen many, many snakes over my 53 years. I remember a tiger snake come into our kitchen and curl up in front of our combustion stove when I was 4-5 years old. Tiger snakes are common here but not aggressive if they don’t feel threatened. They’re also commonly all black with no stripes.

When I was a little kid growing up in Tasmania I was walking with relatives down an apple orchid, suddenly heard a shout and ran towards the relative that made the cry to only come to a massive long tiger snake that had wrapped around a post, it quickly unraveled and rapidly approached us (big group of around 10 people) to attack, my relative's little dog jumped in the way and defended us so bravely but unfortunately the snake attacked the dog and bit it so many times, at least 5. The dog died 10 minutes later, as the owners were racing to the nearby vet. Such a scary, sad day.

Nicely done vid guys, some of these so-called "top 10s" can be a bit hit and miss, and that's being polite. You are probably aware of this, but if not here's something for you. The toxicology report on the 2006 discovered Western Desert Taipan, also known as the Central Ranges Taipan, was released fairly recently. The report showed the toxicity of this species was greater than that of the Coastal Taipan, making it now the world's third most venomous snake. This species is found in one of the most remote parts of the country and was only discovered 17 years ago, though I'm sure the indigenous people would've been aware of it. I hope you find this interesting.

Eastern brown snakes are more aggressive than other snakes in my area of SE Qld and Nth NSW like the Red Belly Black snake. In my experience if you find one in warm weather and it is cornered they will be aggressive. I spent some time living on the coast and they were very common around sugarcane fields, probably because of the rats and mice. Most of the time if you ignore them they wont come after you. Last one I came across in my backyard was only a baby and fairly docile. I picked up a rock it was hiding under but it was cool weather so it was not too active. The only thing I had on hand was a Woolies paper bag and was able to encourage it into that bag and relocate it to some nearby bushland. The kids loved it but not so much my wife, she didn't want to know about it, only that it was now gone.
