Notice most these pictures are old. Thanks to the previous generations who harvested huge numbers of wild fish and built dams, kids today will likely never see a steelhead as big as the these. Thanks guys 👍

Fish in my photo is 30lbs, (43x23) caught and released on the Kispiox on a swung fly with a spey rod. Not a bad steelhead for the first time picking up a spey rod....and you'll notice I'm not long arming it. Ok, I couldn't long arm it if I wanted too. Too damn big around the tail to grasp and too heavy to hold out. I bonked a 27lb brooder on the Quinault. Never thought I'd land a fish larger than 27 again.

This year the idaho steelhead are huge. I work at a fish hatchery and we got one that measured 980mm. Thats about 38 inches, so it was about 25 or 26 pounds because the hatchery is 641 miles from the ocean

No Thompson fish? Spence's Bridge BC has a cafe with "the book of the dead" bunch of monsters from back in the day. 25 to 35lbers. Thanks for the pics & stories 👍

Excellent video of magnificent fish - always wanted to go up and fish with Gill...maybe soon! I've been blessed to catch a 44"X24" on the Queets back in 2006 and 5 or 6 high 20's on the Upper Quinault - all on floats.

During the first week of this year I got my biggest steel head which was 19 pounds most likely f the bigger steel were already caught so I didn’t get a chance to catch anything bigger than 19 pounds but it fought like a 30 pound king amazing fish to catch but fishing for me rn up in the Quinault is closed but that hasn’t stopped me from fishing in are Quinault river

Most wild fish are from a hatchery strain that passed the hatchery to spawn there honestly isn't really a true wild fish anymore to hard to tell if it's native due to hatchery or native true native u can't really tell

My buddy Willie Korf (RIP) took that picture of Karl Mauser's Fly record from 1962...he had a story about that day as well...they weighed it at Willie's house but Karl didn't like the result so he took it to town and reweighed it there but he didn't like that weight either so he took Willie's weight as official...Mauser was quite a character...he camped at Lower Patch in his camper during the season back in those days and pounded the run daily...

Monsters should always go back in the koolaid so they have a chance to spawn future monsters to maybe have a chance to spawn. Really the chances it will live to its spawning grounds after fighting for its life then taken out the water are slim to none but maybe its close enough to its grounds to actuality make it to spawn.
