Yes and no. You shouldn’t just go into it for money, but it’s totally fine if you’re not super passionate about it. Not everyone has desires of passion for jobs like others. Some people are just in it for something as simple as “I just like to help”

Money is a factor when unoversities are charging hundreds of thousands for efucating nurses... NP's should make a minimum of $150,000/yr, minimum. Yes, I tuped it twice. There are NP programs that cost over $100,000. Most students take loans out. They have to be paid back. Nurses are getting the shaft. This is a big reason that the field losses so many. The pay is not worth the abuse, health implications caused by the nurses working environment.

Selah sure! So after high school I went to a four year university and got by bachelor in science of nursing degree passed my nclex and interviewed for my job and got hired as a new grad straight out of school! The biggest thing that made me stand apart from others because it is rare to get my position right out of college is that I was building my resume while I was in school .... so I worked 2 jobs while I was in college at one point 3 I was involved alot on campus and my references were great advocates. I didn't think any body would care that I worked at Kroger since I was 16 but it was one of the first things my manager brought up during my interview, like she actually read my resume and that's something that she said stood out to her alot ... I worked at Kroger, was a resident assistant on campus and later became a nursing assistant as well, did Dean's circle at school nursing children summer camp, national black nurse association, and won a major diversity scholarship that obtains press coverage and what not while I was in undergrad. My manager pointed all that out in my interview and said it showed her I am a dedicated hardworking determined strong person

I love that you made this informative video! Salary isn’t a secret so I love when this is wifely discussed. As some comments already said, some numbers are a bit off. As a current psych RN, I know Mental Health nurse practitioners average 130k-250k across the country regardless of location. This specialty is only represented in less than 2 percent of the NP population so stats on Psych NPs are often misrepresented or not represented at all when googling NP salaries. Keep up the great work and to my nursing students out there, it will be worth it!

@xyz_KrystalWallace_zyx
@xyz_KrystalWallace_zyx 2 жыл бұрын
@@2256jajaja I know you asked this months ago, but to answer your question yes you can! As traveling nursing assignments are never very long term (unless your company has you renew your contract for an extended stay) you can do as many or as little as you want. If you decide to do it for 2 years while you’re single with no kids, then after those 2 years you’re ready to settle down; you can easily take your experience to your neighborhood hospital or clinic (whichever is your preference). I feel the same as you though, I couldn’t see myself living nomadic for too long because once I start having kids, I’m staying in 1 place so I may travel for 1 year just for the experience then go back home and become a stationed RN/LC. I hope that helps!

I've been a nurse for 24 years. It's been good to me and I still enjoy going to work every day. I had a similar conversation with a coworker who decided being a nurse was an easy way to make money. Number 1... it's NOT easy. Number 2... if you're doing it for the money, it will never be worth it. Nursing is a demanding career and if your heart isn't in it then you'll never get paid enough to make it worthwhile.

I am a retired registered nurse. I worked in my profession for 41 years. I have seen quite a few videos recently talking about how much money they make. Knowing the various roles a nurse can work , it makes me sick that money seems to be upper-most in the minds of many. You will find out that if money is your main ambition you will not succeed no matter how much you make. You need to have the passion and the "heart of a nurse" to be happy in your work. I wish you well.

As an AG-ACNP student and CVICU/STICU Travel Nurse I can tell you guys this is not entirely accurate. Depending on your specialty, traveling can bring in at least 100k. I make $2600-2800/wk with $70-90/hr OT rate so you do the math! Mental health NPs make more then AGACNPs because there is such a shortage. And CRNA is not always the highest paid. I will be working as a CVICU AG-ACNP and Open Heart Surgery first assist NP. I’ve already gotten job offers for 160k and I’m in my 2nd semester of school. And finally to everyone who wants to be a CRNA, it’s very boring but everyone is obsessed with assumed pay, you HAVE to have at least 2-5 years of ICU experience! You will not pass the interview otherwise. Also a little inside tip for the future CRNAs, if you have your experience particularly in CVICU or STICU THEY WILL CHOOSE YOU FIRST!!!! These are the preferred critical care experience areas for CRNA school. Also become best friends with your respiratory therapist and learn ventilator settings. This will come up in your interview as well because as a CRNA you will intubate patients and manage their vents as well as sedate them. I recommend shadowing a CRNA for anyone who wants that career. GOOD LUCK future nurses!!!!!!!

Chris Sams you’re right! I’m surprised Travel nurses were number 9. I worked tele in Louisiana and was bringing home $2500/weekly after taxes. Also as a travel nurse you have the opportunity to work Nursing strikes which could pay over $5000/week for 5 days or it could just depend on how long the strike is. I know someone who worked a Nursing strike for four weeks and made over $50,000.

Where I work, the floor nurses with 15+ years of experience make way more than NPs, which I love because it rewards and helps keep awesome nurses who love the bedside, to stay there!

There is another huge field you left out. Device Industry. I’ve been an RN for 21 years. All cardiac background. I moved over into industry 11 years ago. Ive been a clinical specialist for multiple different transcatheter heart valve devices. I am present during all the cases and instruct physicians on how to deliver and deploy my products and help screen appropriate patients via CT and ECHO. It’s a high stress position with a huge responsibility and travel. I make more than what you listed for a CRNA. Clinical experts are used in the majority of all implantable devices even outside of cardiology. Ortho, urology, robotics, general surgery ect.

I think she was giving a ballpark figure of the lowest rate of pay for these nursing careers. Because not only does the salary change from state to state, but employer to employer as well. I used to be deathly afraid at your age. One thing that helped me get over it was my love of money. I enrolled in a ragweed study for $800 when I was around 18-20 years old. I had to take something like a drop a day of ragweed a day to build immunity. They had to take my blood a couple of times and I did it for the money lol. But I realized it wasnt so bad. Getting paid for it makes it feel less horrible. And the fact that it was my choice to get it and not forced on me by a school or my parents helped as well. Good luck!!!!

Nice video. Let me just say that in nursing, you’ve got to love it or you don’t. After that, the money part comes next. I a RN in NYC for 12 years now. I am a big critical care nurse. Like many nurses, I was inspire to go to CRNA, but did not work out for me... maybe not meant to be. Had all the requirements (CCRN certification, 3.8 GPA, etc... and was even working at a big trauma hospital where we did 4 code-ice per shift). Long story short, I applied to CRNA first time and did not get in, but was recruited to start a PICC team at my hospital. No regrets... very autonomous, well respected, less stressful, not so much of responsibility than other nursing specialties, and most of all, salary is equivalent to a nurse practitioner. Went back to school to get my MSN, but I’ve decided I will stick with being a vascular nurse since it is a very limited specialty and is very rewarding. PICC insertion is another game step for me in my nursing profession and I would recommend others to do it.

As an emergency RN, make sure you research the city in which you want to work so you can compare pay rates. I live in Austin and, although we're a rapidly growing city with a huge census, we still get paid way less than RNs in Dallas or Houston. Scope out the hospital system (for or non profit, patient satisfaction scores r/t the hospital, etc)to see if it's even worth working there. Good luck to everyone wanting to get into nursing!

I love this. The disadvantage of being a CRNA (although there really isn’t one lol) though is that the ceiling is the limit, whereas being an Adult Gerontology NP you can own & operate a practice within 20 something states currently that have moved towards granting full practice authority. They can earn well above 160 thousand a year. To my knowledge, CRNA’s won’t be able to do that.

Same in TX. I easily make 75k while going to school full time and not working any OT. I also work night shift though and a lot of weekends so that adds up for me.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn and my family moved to Florida when I was 18. I'm currently in school for my ADN and I really want to move back to NYC. But my parents scare me into thinking I can't make it because of the expenses.

Kassi Bruce hi there, I would love to get some information about this. I am planning to move to TX and am passionate about pursuing a nursing career. Can you guide me about your journey in becoming one? Which city do you go to school in and what kind of nurse are you while you are going to school currently? Thank you so much, Sam.
