Seriously thank you for putting Too Human as the number one disappointment. That game forever changed my attitude on preorder culture and waiting for reviews to go out on games first....still pretty mad about how that game turned out.

Duke Nukem Forever we got was raised from the dead by Gearbox in under 2 years. People have no-one but themselves to blame for hyping it up as much as they did.

duke nukem forever only sucked on consoles, it was bareable on pc it may not be funny to everyone but it was funny to mee.

I remember when Stuttering Craig and the rest of the 2011 staff at Screwattack scrutinized people who panned Duke Nukem Forever as prudes who are incapable of having any fun. It's a brave new world.

This is a pretty good list! Honestly, this is why I now try to stay away from the "fandom" and hype mentality in general, just so that I won't find myself too utterly disappointed in the end. If I see or hear about a game that looks promising to me, I do my absolute best to not get myself too excited for it. Duke Nukem Forever taught me to never get my hopes up too high, LOL!

Surprised Halo 5 didn't make the list with its major false advertising. Well then again. The game itself actually does work like real game and all. It's story line was just terrible though.

I have a love/hate relationship with Smash Bros. Brawl. The online play was laggy as hell, the jumping was too airy and some of the characters can be broken. However, I loved the Subspace Emissary and collecting the trophies and stickers.

I still play ESO to this day, mainly because all my friends own it and I'm waiting until Skyrim is remade or backwards compatible.

Honestly AC3 was a way bigger disappointment.Considering it came off of the only AC games worth playing and was supposed to be the end of the whole Desmond thing(he was a good character and every one hated him then he died and people wish he was back) it was the beginning of the end for Ubisoft

What about "Sonic 2006" and "Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark"?

At release, No Man's Sky should have been called No Man's Buy because there was No Freaking Content. Heh, see what I did there? I, along with most, didn't know what the story would be about from the trailers, just that it featured quite vibrant looking sci fi settings and space travel. Sean Murray was asked about the possibility of lots of content, which he said yes to, but when Sony, one of their backers, basically said "we gotta release this soon" they didn't have time to implement that content. And while they apparently did make quintillions of worlds, they seemed to be all randomly made. All you were able to do was gather resources and very slowly learn the language of aliens that just add some lore as shallow as the gameplay features. There was a goal, being go to the center of the universe, but it turned out to be a portal that just sent you back to the edge of space, basically. Most infamous was the inventory system that didn't even let you store much. It wasn't even multiplayer capable, at least initially, despite the supposed claim, but he did at least compliment the two people who ended up on the same planet together. A lot of content was updated into No Man's Sky since then, thankfully, but that wouldn't mean much in itself considering the, again, initial version that was released at full price. Here's the thing, however: these updates weren't just minor improvements. No Man's Sky was updated so tremendously that it's almost like one of those sequels to games that would actually have made people forget about the quickly obsolete first game, like Street Fighter 2. Key word being "almost" because it's still an interesting part of gaming history. No Man's Sky Next felt like almost a whole new game, which is crazy because it's still built on the bedrock of an initially surface level space exploration game. But the biggest reason I bring it up is because unlike many of these hyped games that sucked, No Man's Sky put in a lot of effort to make sure it didn't suck forever. Colonial Marines continues to suck, Daikatana continues to suck, Street Fighter Cross Tekken continues to sell physical DLC, and Elder Scrolls Online... Actually, I don't know, maybe some of you are more into it now. But let the initial release of No Man's Sky serve as a lesson; sometimes it's best for a developer to tell the publisher "come on, cut us a little slack."

I remember playing Brink I actually enjoyed playing the game and I love that you can customize your character and one of the helmets not joking is the helmet from Full Metal jacket

The Division is amazing, I played over 300 hours.

I have a feeling that "Mighty No. 9" will be a retroactive example. It has a lot of early warning signs. The constant delays (Duke Nukem Forever), the attempt at turning it into a multimedia franchise before the game is even out (Cheetahmen), the cocky advertising (Daikatana), and just the fact that Inafune is basically only making that game out of spite (probably a first for the world of gaming). It may not be a bad game, but it won't live up to its hype.

hey guys remember Titanfall? Evolve? Rainbow six siege? There was some serious hype behind those games and they ended up being mediocre. For Deva who wanted to cut single player so they can focus on an awesome multiplayer they ended up no different than they would be if they did include single player. At least rainbow six would have lived up to expectations if it had stayed as patriots.

AVGN Adventures should be on this list. Overhyped by ScrewAttack themselves and sucked tremendously. Huehuehuehue.

You can find used copies of Too Human online for about $5......not "ridiculously expensive" by any means.

Coming from BF2 to BF3 was depressing. Its like Dice tried to cover up the fact that half the game was missing with graphics, destruction, and CoD shoe box sized maps.

Battlefront and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City were so disappointing. I still think that Battlefront is one of the worst games of 2016

honestly?? i think brink was great. huge splash damage fan and sure it wasn't their greatest effort, but i've had a lot of fun with it. i still play the single player quite a bit to this day.

Under your logic of Duke Nukem game, then Doom (2016) should have been a huge fiasco, and not the critically acclaimed game it is. Although not a terrible game, Duke Nukem did the exact opposite to what Doom did, limiting the amount of guns you could carry, regenerating health, and that goddman turret section in a hellicopter. It took the worst of the modern era military shooter games, and put a Duke Nukem skin on it.

theproblem with brink was the map design and the fact that everyone had way too much health, if those two were better then if would have been a fun game

Yep, wouldn't have settled for anything less than Top 3 for Duke Nukem Forever. Never played it myself, but I still remember the nuclear fallout from that one. People were PISSED.

I got Brink right after I clocked out from work and when I finally got home I struggled to play it for 6 hours before selling it to gamestop for like 30 bucks. I didn't care. but I tried to give it a chance since it looked so good from the trailers.

I messed up! I sold my version of too human to gamestop years ago not knowing that it had become a collectors item!

I liked Duke Nukem Forever, but I played DN3D like mad when it very first came out and friends and I would use the level builder to make TONS of levels and trade with each other at least once a week. When I say down and played DNF for the first time and realized there wasn't even a single new weapon or real gameplay element in 15 years, it just felt like a super HD texture pack for sixty bucks.

From day 1 I thought Elder Scrolls could only work as a multiplayer game if it was akin to a 2-8 person Diablo style game. It's just not meant for an MMO.

I was 20 (25 now) when Duke Nukem Forever came out and I'm not marry yet. I played Duke Nukem 3D as a kid back in the late 90's too.

This is why when I was offered someone to say why would you choose one of these games either you choose the actually good game or your shoes the FpS I chose wrong and got the FPS

1. Doom 3 : Wasn't a real Doom game, just a copy of what we had seen hundreds of times already. 2. Legends of Wrestling: Released alongside the amazing SmackDown series, amazing concept but awful controls and story. 3. Wrestlemania x8: Felt like a prototype; No story mode! Fake wrestlers' themes, limited controls, limited characters, Meh. 4. De Blob: Looked v fun on the Wii but I bought it and was like Meh 5. PES 2006: Sequel to the best football game ever, it was SO buggy and unfair on the player 6. Luigi's Mansion: Controversial but I heard so much about this game and was bitterly disappointed when I first played it two years ago. 7. Conker Live & Reloaded: None of the multiplayer from the N64 game, gameplay felt outdated once released. I was going to buy Resident Evil 5 but reviews persuaded me not to. I was massively disappointed to hear this after the excellent prequel on the Wii
