Overrated and Overpushed are two different things.

The main problem with Charlotte are not her abnormal number of title reigns, but that the fact that she is daughter of Ric Flair is constantly mentioned over and over again. This despite the fact that her ring name is simply Charlotte, and not Charlotte Flair, but she is constantly being referred to as Charlotte Flair on screen. Therefore, whatever push she receives, people instantly associate with Ric, despite Ric not only not being employed by WWE at moment, but also not being in good relationship with WWE at the moment. WWE simply has to drop the Flair last name from Charlotte's TV appearances.

I have a VHS tape of Hulk Hogan actually wrestling in Japan . He did everything from drop down toe holds to wrist locks. Just because the WWE dictates how its wrestlers wrestling style doesn’t mean those people can’t wrestle

I don't find it that surprising that Charlotte Flair is on this list. She is talented, sure, but I think the problem is that she just constantly gets title shots/reigns because of her name and it comes at the expense of other wrestlers. Several times it's felt like more popular wrestlers missed out on a push because Creative wanted to give Flair another championship when she didn't really do anything to earn it. She's not bad, just pushed way too much.

Overrated and over pushed are two very different things. Almost everyone on this list COULD be over pushed, but not necessarily overrated.

Del Rio is a jerk, but he played a convincing heel (since he seems to be one in real life), and had pretty good in-ring skills. So I don't think he was overrated. He wasn't underrated, either. I think he was perfectly rated how he was

I think some people confuse overrated with people they just don't like.

I think the complicated nature of this question is that someone can be overrated by the WWE itself, and not particularly well-received by the fans, or someone could be mid-tier on the rosters and largely mediocre but have a ride-or-die fanbase that considers them the best. Both of these can count as overrated while stemming from entirely different areas.

I actually liked del Rio, he wasn't in the wwe for that long by any stretch but his rivalry with cm punk, Cena, and Orton is something I won't forget watching when I was still watching as a kid

Anyone who can call Hogan overrated obviously wasn’t alive in the 80’s! Hogan was huge back then and everyone, and I mean EVERYONE knew who he was! It didn’t matter if you even watched wrestling every body still knew who Hogan was! He was super over and he made wrestling into a spectacle that everyone wanted to see. Like him or not no one who cares about wrestling can honestly say that Hogan didn’t do anything for wrestling! He built the road that others still follow this very day.

Wrestling fans are infamous for using "overrated" as an excuse to justify their hatred or dislike of anybody.

Bray Wyatt is not overated

I don't think CM Punk is overrated by any mean, he's not even overpushed. In his prime (2011-2013) there was argument he was the best in-ring performer in WWE (with Daniel Bryan being only wrestler to rival him), he was undoubtedly the best in the microphone, and as he said even on commentary he was great. Unlike Ryback, Punk backed up everything he said about being the best, in the ring, he had best matches every pay-per-view, the best promos, most interesting storylines, and the biggest crowd reactions. He also wasn't overpushed like, say, Roman or Cena, he was champion for 434 days, and his best with that title run. He felt that he should've main evented WrestleMania he was the most over wrestler at the time, he was giving the best matches, promos, storylines, and crowd reactions. He truly felt that he deserved to main event WWE's flagship show after being champion for such a long time.

Anybody that says Hogan can't wrestle should see his work in Japan. He dumbed it down for WWF.

John Cena improved his in-ring work in 2015 Roman Reigns improved his promo work in 2018 The Rock changed his gimmick in 1997 Stone Cold improved his character work in 1996 I wouldn't consider them "overrated" if they improved or changed something they were criticized for which they lacked.

Then again when viewership went down and he joined nWo how viewership went pass where it used to be and beyond. Imagine having 4 million home views today. That’s how high it was around the time Hogan turned heel in 96. And WCW swept past WWF and dominated the ratings against them until 98. Overrated? The word overrated in the wrestling community can also be classified as over-hated in certain cases. But most of these picks, I 100% agree with.

Unpopular opinion: Chyna and Chris Benoit. Chyna: Yes, she had a great physique and was a pioneer female wrestler - fighting men and winning the IC belt at a time when most female "wrestlers" were just there to be eye candy, but the real reason she had such a good and very unique spot during her WWF run was because she was dating HHH. She was not a good wrestler at all by any metric (Chris Jericho said she was terrible to work with) and had an inflated sense of her own importance. There are a number of female wrestlers past and present who would've done a much better job if they were given her spot and opportunities at the time. The gravy train for her stopped when her relationship with HHH ended. Chris Benoit (not even going to touch on his demise): Overrated as hell. Not for his in-ring work, but as an overall package, there is a reason the man never drew a dime in his life, why he only had one (insignificant) main event push and why by the end of his career he was on the WWE C show (ECW). I find it bizarre that he has a large army of apologists, many of whom believe in batshit insane conspiracy theories about his demise. He was boring in the extreme. No charisma, couldn't cut a promo to save his life and it always seemed like he was just going through the motions, etc. You could rarely tell he was a face or heel, because he was unremarkable. Wrestlers like Benoit are liked for the same reason American Idol and X Factor winners are decided. Underdog appeal/pity, but no one actually values them as stars.

I'd venture to say that the majority of people who voted Hulk Hogan are young. The straight fact is that, as a child during Hogan's rise to stardom, Hulk Hogan was one of the most impressive people on the planet. He put on a DAMN good show. People should share the matches that Hogan did a poor job, and I can equally share Stone Cold matches in which dude didn't even wrestle... in which he just talked on the mic and threw beers everywhere. The same with The Rock... what exactly could he do in the ring? The People's Elbow? The Rock Bottom? A 5 year old can perfect those moves in 15 minutes. There is always a better wrestler than the next on a technical level... but the "show" is what makes a wrestler great. That is why Stone Cold and The Rock are some of the greatest... and Hulk Hogan, The Warrior, and Randy Savage. Sure, Dynamite Kid was better than all of them... but he didn't impress 100,000 people at once. That says a lot when a wrestler could walk out in front of that many people and have everyone cheer for him.

Regardless of what happened with the fallow in AEW, CM Punk had people chanting his name for 7 years he’s far from overrated.

I don’t think bray Wyatt is overrated. I think his creative gets the best of him and can deeply overshadow his in ring work. His characters have always been ecentric and unique but it can become a problem when your character is bigger than your in ring work, especially in this age of professional wrestling

Charlotte's Flair character is her work. I was out off wrestling for a while and I still remember watching her go for the first time. I grew up in the era where female wrestlers were ''Divas '' not real pro wrestler. She blew my mind. I was hooked. GREAT performer in the ring. She's like a female version off HBK.

To have a discussion of this sort, you really need to define the term, and that isn't easy to do. Being a pro wrestler has several layers, from in ring ability, to promo skills, to the hard-to-define ability to connect with the fans. There is also the distinction between people who still believe it is real and those who are more in the know. The distance between their skill in the ring and the push they get is also a huge issue. For me, wrestlers like Hogan, Cena and Reigns are at the top, but I can see why a lot of people would disagree. They all put butts in the seat, but I credit most of that to the push, and not the actual ability. Sadly this poll was clearly answered by a lot of people thinking it asked who they didn't like, as opposed to being over rated.

Can you please do a list for saddest promos? Seeing the warrior reminded me of his last promo ever. He was in poor health and died shortly after.

I think the reason people think Bray was overrated is because his promos are always top tier but almost all of his matches stink.

Hogan shouldn't be anywhere near this list, he was a better wrestler than everyone else on the list combined. The fact most people don't know what a great technical wrestler he was for his size doesn't make him overrated just them uneducated, you should have taken this opportunity to educate them.

I would have to say Bray Wyatt is NOT over rated considering both his creativity and him being a pretty good talent. They may say it's too much of the character aspect that makes him over rated but that's exactly what makes him who he is. Same thing with Undertaker at his debut. Wyatt isn't overrated. He is absolutely amazing at what he does. It's not for everyone, that I agree, but you can't deny the originality and pure charisma of his character(s).

To be fair, most of the names on this list are the result of modern fans' perceptions. And some of these performers (Ryback, Punk, Charlotte Flair, Del Rio) clearly have ego issues. And many fans wonder how Charlotte warranted getting the entire summer off to get married when past wrestlers were released simply for marrying someone in the company (Charlie Haas & Jackie Gayda, Rodney Mack & Jazz). I for one have to wonder how come the Bella twins were left off this list?
