dragon mark may be an hidden gem already because of its difficulty and the fact that it was only on switch and ps4. on ps4, indies have difficulty with sales even when they are not japanese, so when they are added to the way sony treat obscure japanese devs right now, we can see why it didnt sell there. As for the switch version, Nintendo did talk about it a lot back at launch, but, most switch players are more or less casual, making a difficult game a difficult sale. (pun intended XD) So, how do you like this explanation.

@@WithScienceAsMySheperd To resume, JRPGs are turn based games, not action games. But honestly, I think Eric, like me, is from a generation were are RPGs were just called RPGs, not JRPGs or WRPGs.

I’ve played most of them, but then I like most types of games besides sports simulations. I’m wondering what’s your top 5 traditional rpgs?

@@WithScienceAsMySheperd I’ve played all the games you mentioned (except Gemfire) and generally agree with your assessment. I don’t have any memory of FF I or II, although I played them both on NES. FF IX remains one of my all-time favorites, but I got bored with FF VII and quit at the campfire. I was also underwhelmed by both Super Mario RPG and Earthbound. Suikoden II was the first game that kicked my ass; couldn’t get past the bone dragon that constantly killed my whole party with one blow! Maybe someday….. It was the original Phantasy Star that totally blew my mind-it was the first, after all. But it’s way too grindey for me to ever want to play it again! A couple other favorites are Chrono Cross and Ni No Kuni, but I don’t remember if they fit your correct definition of JRPG. Currently playing Radiant Historia and am generally very into DS, 3DS and Vita gaming these days. Game on, brother!

Another fun fact the game does use a few Spanish and French words in the English translation. Though, I'll admit my biggest annoyance with the game is that you can only randomly recruit people after winning a battle. At least if your looking for characters that aren't story relevant and some of those characters don't really feel all that optional if you want to beat the game. The game also gives you a slightly different ending if you manage to collect at least one of every weapon in the game.

I see Dragon Marked For Death and instantly remember that the PC version is a SHIT PORT of the PS4 one.

@@Karifean That may be the case now, but they were entirely hardcoded when the game first launched on Steam. Oh course, I can't confirm this anymore, since the game will no longer run on my system. It just crashes to desktop, on startup now and the devs no longer care enough about it, to issue a fix. There are threads on this issue, from other people, that have gone unanswered and unacknowledged by anyone in any position to do anything about it. This game is the only game I've ever bought and refunded twice.

It didn't deserve any extra attention. The pc version is a shit port of the ps4 one, with hardcoded controls, hardcoded resolutions and serious technical issues with MASSIVE framerate drops in areas with virtually NOTHING on screen. I wouldn't know if they ever fixed anything, because the game no longer runs for me, instead simply crashing to desktop on launch. I got it near to when it was released and the issues I listed above made me insta-refund it. Tried it again recently and the game doesn't even start anymore, instead simply crashing to desktop, on launch. Refund number 2.

Except the pc version now crashes to desktop on start-up, for some users and the dev team have given up on trying to fix anything anymore.

Easy to play but hard to master and finish? I guess that's what it means :P

I interpreted it as a beginner's list for people wanting to get into obscure hardcore games. Some people want to play these kinds of games but don't know where to start because hardly anyone in regular circles knows about them.

He made a video about him not getting into that series. I know its a best example but its something that didnt hit him.

Imagine if Shmup Junkie becomes a guest in "That JRPG show". He maybe focusing on one genre but I know he also likes rpgs and he can offer more topic.

It's not really hard per say, but you just have to know the rhythm of each move and how they work. It's only hard when you're a beginner.
