If you are wondering what to do in Victoria B.C., then this is the vlog for you. We are going to share with you our top ten things to do in Victoria B.C. Put on your pedometers and fitbits because most of them are in walking distance in downtown Victoria and you will have bragging rights about the number of steps you walk each day. Some of them are a short drive out of town if you have a car. We have shared our best free things to do in Victoria and some of the things that are well worth the money.
#10 Whale Watching Tours with BC Whale Tours
bcwhalewatchingtours.com/
Whale watching in Victoria BC is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is worth the extra money to go out on a whale watching tour. If you are in Victoria and you have the time and money, make sure you go whale watching at least once.
#9 Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown
One of the most interesting things to do in Victoria BC is visit Fan Tam Alley in Chinatown. The Alley is great for photography and shopping. My personal favourite is Kid Sister Ice Cream.
#8 Shopping in Victoria BC, Lower Johnson to Government Street
My favourite place to shop in Victoria BC are the shops on Lower Johnson and then walk along Government Street. There are lots of independently owned businesses with local artisans that you will not find anywhere else.
#7 Victoria Bakery
www.crustbakery.ca/
Victoria BC has no shortage of fabulous bakeries. Our personal favourite is Crust Bakery on Fort Street. I would recommend their cronuts, a cross between a croissant and a donut.
#6 Beacon Hill Park Petting Zoo - Running of the Goats, Goat Stampede!
beaconhillchildrensfarm.ca/
The gate to the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm open’s at 10 am in the summer and everyday at 10:10 am there is the adorable “Running of the Goats,” 30 seconds of sheer joy.
#5 Beacon Hill Park
www.beaconhillpark.ca/
Beacon Hill Park is over 200 acres of gorgeous parkland in downtown Victoria BC. There are bridges, lakes, ponds, paths, gardens, trees, flowers, running streams, ducks, birds, wildlife, eagles, and blue herons. It is a beautiful place to go for a walk or sit on a park bench.
#4 Goldstream Provincial Park
www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/expl...
If you have a car you can take a short drive out of town to Goldstream Provincial Park. The park boasts some beautiful old-growth trees including Douglas firs and Western Red Cedars. Some of them are 600 years old. You can walk the flat trails around the lower part of the park or if you are feeling adventurous take a hike up to the Railway Trestle.
#3 Mount Doug (Mount Douglas Park)
www.saanich.ca/EN/main/parks-r...
Again if you have a car you can drive out to Saanich and take a drive to the top of Mount Doug from noon to dusk each day. Churchill Drive allows you to drive to the top seven days a week, or if you are feeling fit, you can take any of the trails from the bottom to the summit for spectacular 360 degree views of the city.
#2 Eat at Red Fish Blue Fish
www.redfish-bluefish.com/
Our favourite restaurant in Victoria BC is Red Fish Blue Fish. Red Fish Blue Fish actually isn’t a restaurant, you have to line up and for a long time at an up-cycled cargo container in the Inner Harbour for your fish and chips or tacones. Then you get to sit on the wooden pier and eat your seafood with a view of the sea planes, sailboats, kayakers and seals in the inner harbour. I will say it again, is worth the line up!
#1 Feed the Seals at Oak Bay Marina
www.oakbaymarina.com/
Our number one thing to do in Victoria BC is to feed the seals at Oak Bay Marina. The harbour seals are super fun and entertaining as you throw them frozen fish pieces. You will love capturing their cute faces for your instagram feed. This is always the highlight of our visitors’ stay.
So there you have it. Our top 10 things to do in Victoria BC. What are your favourite things to do in Victoria BC? Would you change the order of our list? What would you add? What would you take away? Leave your comments, let us know.
Thanks for watching, please subscribe, turn on notifications and like this video.
See you next week!
Namaste, Melissa

My 10 favourite things in Victoria are: 1. walking (such a beautiful, walkable city!) 2. respectful and slow-moving motorists (they have very low speed limits) 3. cycling 4. breathing that wonderful fresh air! 5. very friendly people (it's off-putting at first!) 6. staring in wonder at the massive trees 7. gazing across the strait at the Olympic mountain range 8. watching the comings and goings in the inner harbour 9. great food and coffee shops (Bean Around the World, yum!) 10. Beacon Hill Park (Victoria doesn't need an oasis, but it has one!)

Hi, I’m an architect and artist and I am planning to move to Victoria in the next year to two years. I am curious for a video about interesting neighborhoods or hidden gems. I want to move to Victoria because of the beauty and appreciation the British influence have for the built environment. The gardens and the architecture and the alleys. All of it is amazing to me. I’m eventually going to design things with hidden passages and secret doors and I believe Victoria will truly appreciate my spirit so much. I already feel like I’m meant to be there and I’ve yet to be there. I’ve lived in the UK twice and Victoria is where’d I’d like to buy my first home and establish a place for my art and design to come to life.

the way we did it is that we moved here and settled in a neighbourhood and figured out where we wanted to live. Basically near the ocean, downtown, one of the cute neighbourhoods outside of downtown, etc...nothing beats living here first to figure out where you want to be :)

Pretty solid list. There's definitely lots to choose from. I love being a tourist in my own town. It's hard to make a list because people's preferences differ.. I love the walk along Dallas rd, for instance. Hatley Castle and Esquimalt lagoon are other favourites. .. but there's just too many things to choose from ranging from Ocean activities, to architecture, gardening, military history, hikes, food.. the list gets long really quick lol

Butchart Gardens is crazy overpriced and jammed full of tourists...that and high tea at the Empress are the two tourist traps to avoid. And the whale harassing tours. From what I've heard the sound and being chased is quite stressful to the orcas, even though you're kept at a 'safe distance' for the animals.

you should not be up on the goldstream railway trestle. that is private property which is NOT part of the goldstream trail network. The railway and its structures are not for dancing or hanging off of. The E&N railway is owned by Island Corridor Foundation and Southern Railway of Vancouver Island and unless you have permission from either of those two owners of that property you are trespassing under the Railway Safety Act. I am not an employee or respresentative of either of those two companies but I do know a thing or two about railway safety. I am a huge supporter of railway safety but you do what you want Im just saying your trespassing and when it says to stay off the tracks its not a suggestion. I just hope one of you who decides to do this unsafe act dont get charged with trespassing or worse killed. www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/goldstream/

HI Ross, really good to know...I've seen people hanging off the bridge...super dangerous :(
@RossJohnsonVIA1
@RossJohnsonVIA1 6 жыл бұрын
Yoga Lifestyle with Melissa that doesn’t mean you should do it too. So if someone on that bridge we’re to jump off of it you would do it too just because they did it? I guessing not. Trespassing is trespassing there is no excuse and the law doesn’t excuse you or anyone else because someone else does it. It’s illegal but do what you want and bear the consequences. If ever an official comes up there you can just tell’em they were doing it so I thought it would be ok for me to do it too. Use your common sense
@RossJohnsonVIA1
@RossJohnsonVIA1 5 жыл бұрын
I am the Juan and Only in none of my words there was I talking down to her. Not once did I talk in a demeaning way. I simply responded to her comment that she did what she did because other people were doing it. Still the law is the same. She and other people while accessing that trestle are putting their lives in serious danger and this is the reason people die by not using their common sense by not trespassing on railway property or structures meant for trains or rail inspectors. Because people don’t think they are in any danger they seem to think they are superior to the laws which are put in place to protect because she and others who think this way will never die of using the Railway trestle because they think they have trained enough that they’re protected from falling or tripping. Laws are there to protect people from harm. I am just stating the facts. People die unnecessarily from not observing the dangers of hanging or climbing on structures not to be accessed by the public. I don’t want to see her or another precious life lost because that one person took the cool way rather than the safe way
