I saw it downloaded from an app took me 3 days to watch it felt like a never-ending chore glad I didn't pay for it this is coming from someone who WORSHIPPED the first 3 and still do.

GrayWoIf I knky found the first decent while 2 and 3 fell off though I would choose 3 over 2 any day and these three over the new ones.

Omar Mokhtar but funny enough he’s the best part of those movies. Even with a shit film he makes them watchable to some extent

As someone who would happily list Tree of Life as one of their favorite movies of the decade, the three movies Malick has done since then have made me understand why people don't like him. Tree of Life was admittedly very indulgent but it had an ambitious story and vision, however abstract the presentation might have been. There was some genuine emotion behind everything and it resonated deeply with me. These newer movies are all style and come across pretentious self-parody. There's basically no story because he literally shot them without a script. He shot his last two movies at the same time with two of the same actors (although Christian Bale ended up getting cut entirely from Song to Song) and it shows because they feel like the same exact movie. With Knight of Cups and Song to Song, Malick's visuals didn't even impress me like they used to because at this point I expect everything to look nice and it feels so hollow. These movies come across as a giant waste of time, some really talented actors, and one of the world's best cinematographers. Apparently Malick is working on a new movie that's a return to the more structured storytelling of his earlier stuff (even if you don't like him style generally, watch Badlands, it's an amazing movie from before he fully developed his signature style and it's very easy to follow). I'm really glad for that, it's what he needs at this point. When Malick is at his fullest potential he makes masterpieces.

Have you seen Badlands or Days of Heaven? Those are two of my favorite films of all time and showcase a tremendous originality and storytelling prowess which Malick seems to have lost recently.

Badlands is pretty good.

I see Malick's better work as being nothing more than mood pieces. He's great at creating a certain atmosphere with his imagery, use of sound, and performance styles, and I think narrative is dead last in his considerations. Think of his best work (Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, and Badlands) as being visual poetry and forget about everything else you usually go to a movie for.
