I love Cercei and Littlefinger's "power is power" lines. It perfectly encapsulates their two different mentalities, while making Cercei a menacing villain, as well as a miopic character who's way less cunning than she thinks. It gets even better when you know that Littlefinger was plotting against her and Joffrey the whole time.

My favorite quotes are for some reason two from maester Aemon: “What is honour compared to a woman’s love? And what is duty against the feeling of a newborn son in your arms? Or a brother’s smile?” And also his last words on his death bed “Egg? I dreamed that I was old” I don’t know why but that one always gets me. And not to forget Davos when he confronted Melisandre: “I loved that girl like she was my own! She was good! She was kind! And you killed her!” Breaks my heart ever time

I can't believe the Tyrion-Lord Janos interaction wasn't here: "I'm not questioning your honor Lord Janos. This line loses all its credibility due to the fact that Littlefinger (one of the smartest characters in the show) got outsmarted by Arya and Sansa. And it wasn't even a particularly clever plan by them. In fact it was fairly predictable that they were pretending to be at odds with each other when in fact they were just trying to play Baelish. Not to mention the whole giving the dagger to Bran thing which was just unbelievably stupid. Such a shame considering Baelish is probably one of my top 8 characters and his dialogue is usually so powerful and riveting.

One of my favorites is from a deleted scene of Tywin with Grand Maester Pycelle. Tywin gets annoyed with Pycelles stuttering and blubbering and calls him out saying he knows it’s an act and to stop. Pycelle then drops the act and stands up straight and speaks clearly and firmly. Tywin asks why he does the act and I like his line “So many flowers my Lord, each wanting to grow the tallest, bloom the brightest. And one by one sooner or later they all get plucked. I don’t want to be the tallest or the brightest, I only want to remain in the garden until my time comes to return to the dirt” It’s actually pretty spot on with how quite a few characters tried to show their worth or seize power, only to die a young death. While people like Pycelle lived a long life. In Japan there is a similar phrase “the nail that sticks out gets hammered”
@embee965

"Chaos is a ladder" is a phenomenal line and when Littlefinger tells Tywin a variation of this, he just looks at him and says, "you say that like you were the first man to think it" essentially him saying you're not as smart as you think you are 😂

@stevendchu 3 ай бұрын
"A moment of chaos affords opportunities lost soon after" Tywin: no shit pal Tywin was running Westeros as the Hand while Littlefinger was still thirsting for Catelyn as a ward. A perfect example of this is when Joffrey gets murdered, and Tywin uses the situation to get Jaime back as his heir, get into the ear of Tommen, and get Tyrion out of his way. "Your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth, and you will know the debt is paid." I probably my favorite line in the whole show. I will never forget how chilling it was to hear Tyrion say that, and how in that moment it didn't feel like a threat but like he was flat-out telling Cersei that it was gonna happen, that she was gonna lose everything no matter what she did. And that's exactly what happened. She loses everything. And Tyrion doesn't even have to do anything to orchestrate it. He's basically telling Cersei that she's already lost while she's in a place where she feels like she has the most power.

And it shows how stupid Cersei is as well… this was a bad move on her part, seemingly getting rid of all her enemies looked good at the time but really this made unneeded enemies and on top of that she declared war on Dorne and on the Tyrells- a war that wasn’t needed and I haven’t finished the series yet, I just got finished with season six and maybe she’ll win those wars! @@StevenGarcia-im8rr I don't think he was acting. I haven't read the books so I don't know how many people knew how insane the mad king really was. I assume it may not have been well known that he was planning to torch the entire city rather than let it fall to outsiders. The gossip at the time might have been that he killed the king out of cowardice to save himself or had been told to do so by his father when the rebels came knocking down the door. So when Robert asks him about the mad kings death trying to shame Jaime for being a kingslayer and gets this straight face answer, it may have shocked him. He saw all Lannisters as overlyprideful with their blonde hair and smug satisfied faces. He had probably wondered what lead a Lannister to do something so dishonourable as to kill his own king and break his oath. I think that's why he was left speechless. He had never thought that a prideful lion could set aside his pride and stain his honour without any personal gain, just because it was the right thing to do.

@Jarnauga
@Jarnauga 2 жыл бұрын
Most definitely. Littlefinger is one of the few people that are really good at playing the game, because they understand the rules at play. And its why Varys "rather enjoys him", he just doesn't like his motives. But he is a proper opponent. Arguably in the books, Littlefinger is using this charade about power even more. In the show most people seem to agree " no one trusts littlefinger". In the books its pretty much the opposite, as George RR Martin puts it "everybody trusts littlefinger". Because he is regarded as having little power, and he tries to play it that way. He is of the lowerst of the low nobility, a brothel keeper, and Master of Coin is actually a position that is regarded as something low and grubby, not a position for a high ranking lord, "a grubby job, so why not let a grubby man do it". So people see him as rather weak, and he doesn't openly show any ambition. Which leads to many people trusting him and telling him stuff, or getting some favor and owing him one in return. He isn''t seen as a thread by most people. Where as Varys has the problem that he is seen as a manipulator and man of ambition or at least some sort of motive. Which can help and hinder him of course.

its amazing how the lines in this show alone are a quick reminder of how unmatched it truly is. pure poetry. one of my favorite lines is actually in the last season (yeah, I know). I don't remember exactly how it goes, but basically Snow tells Tyrion he never wanted to be king and Tyrion in response tells him that perhaps this is exactly the kind of person who should rule, the rare one who doesn't seek power. I find myself actually thinking about it from time to time. its so relevant to humanity, since the very beginning of our time really. we will always need order in the form of leadership, be it kings, monarchs, politicians... but up until now it has never proved itself to be very helpful. humanity is constantly in chaos. I feel like the men at the top are always the most corrupt, because the system in built in such a way that to get there you must REALLY desire power above all. I can't help but think that the system itself is its own demise, because no one who wants power that badly is fit to rule.

Robert Barration never wanted to be king. He wanted to fight, grab his warhammer and go bash some heads and "party" afterwards with wine and women. He never wanted it but found himself in power and was epically incompetent. Tywin did all the work. Those that are worthy of power don't have the strength to obtain it. Those who have the strength are seldom worthy of power. Unless you are Tyrion Lannister.

The line saying "not today" to death is mirrored in one of the greatest films of all time; gladiator. When the swordsmaster said it I instantly remembered Djimon Hounsou saying something similar in the last line of the movie.

Seven hells, the lines from the earlier seasons were gold. There’s so many to choose from “By what right, does the wolf judge the lion. By what right!” “A Lannister always pays his / her debts” “If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention” “The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword” “You know nothing, Jon Snow” “Power is power” “A dragon is not a slave” “What the fucks a Lommy?!” “You gonna die for some chickens? Someone is”

My favorite line by far is Robert's reminesence about Lyanna. *"You want to know the horrible truth? I can't even remember what she looked like... I only know she was the one thing I ever needed. Someone took her from me. And 7 Kingdoms couldn't fill the hole she left behind."* The weight of emotional pain behind his words, the acting, the rage and grief and pure, emotional agony he conveys is just heartbreaking. I want to hug Robert and weep.

Littlefinger is basically the most evil person on the show. He literally started the Game Of Thrones together with Lysa Arryn by what they did to Jon Arryn and making it up as if it was done by the Lannisters.
@RedFloyd469
@RedFloyd469 Жыл бұрын
The war was started for a number of reasons, and the blame cannot be fully put on Littlefinger. 1) The death of Arryn was perhaps helped and orchestrated by Lysa and Littlefinger, but only for a Lannister plot: hiding the knowledge that Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella are not the legitimate heirs, regardless of if they're born from incest. 2) Catelyn kidnapping Tyrion caused Tywin to act accordingly by burning the riverlands. It's an insult to his house he could not possibly let slide. This effectively caused a war regardless of the events that transpired in King's landing. This kidnapping has everything to do with the attempted murder of Bran, which in turn was done by both Jaime Lannister and whoever send the Cat's paw. (There is still no certainty who did it, and the idea that littlefinger sent it is both unlikely and at the very best still a simple hypothesis with little proof.) There was no way for Littlefinger to know Catelyn would ever kidnap Tyrion, so he can hardly be seen as the instigator here. 3) The already volatile situation of having a King that isn't a Targaeryan, thereby setting the stage for further usurpation, further fueled by already ages old nationalist seperationalist ideals in the north. In truth, a war was just waiting to happen ever since the dragons died out. Really, all Littlefinger ever truly did to start the war was cause the death of Arryn, and only then it seems he simply had short term profit in mind. Everything that followed afterwards were just things that just so happened to be very beneficial to Littlefinger but over which he barely had any control. Littlefinger acts best as a player from the side, working his way ever forward and upwards into the upper echelons of power, by barely having to do anything at all. The people around him are vicious, powerhungry and stupid enough to do all the dirty work of war for him.

@@RedFloyd469 I disagree with you.. In my opinion littlefinger wasn't just lucky, he gained advantages because he was smart to see the possible outcomes by dealing with the winning powers and by always having plan B. Some of his achievements are as follows: -Poisoned Jon arryn. -made the starks believe that the Lannisters were responsible. - tricked Ned stark into treason. -indirectly made the crown be in enormous debt by working with tywin Lannister. -joined the Tyrell and Lannister houses for the battle of blackwater. -persuaded Catelyn to release Jaime. -took sansa away from the Lannisters. -thwarted the tyrell's plan to we'd sansa to loras. -he gained his power by working with the tywin from the begining and most of the achievements of the Lannisters were recommended by littlefinger. After all this man became l Master of coin, lord of harrenhal, lord paramount of the trident,lord protector of the eyrie and the vale starting from scratch this man is the most influential person in the events of game of thrones. His ability to predict events and act accordingly makes him look like he is from the future.throught the first seasons this character is developed so greatly that he became too smart to die even for the directors that they had to kill him in such ridiculous way.
