The saddest example of a box office fail that was mentioned here has GOT to be Sinbad! It is so good, with a brilliant villain, awesome action sequences and a great message. It deserved a sequel and what's worse, it changed the course of the way animated films were made. I miss the old school methods used, so much more whimsical, I waste no time with these new CG and hyperrealistic ones. The funniest box office fail is The Lone Ranger. The studio must've been so confident it would be a massive success because of Johnny's participation and threw so much money at it, only for it to flop. Johnny Depp hasn't been in anything worth watching since.

Strange World failed because Disney refused to market it. It was very en par for Disney.

The same was true for John Carter. The bland title didn't help its popularity either.

You can add the Golden Compass to that list because of the religious controversy. The controversy is due to the author of the book series (Philip Pullman) had a problem with organized religion.

@@players7686Little tip: to bold words, just put asterisks around them. Underscores (_) will italicize words (as you can properly italicize works like films, plays, and TV shows), and minus signs on both sides of a word will strike it through.

Although most of these films were far from perfect , I enjoyed nearly all of them (the live action ones anyway) even John Carter ! We definitely could have done without the King Arthur reimagine. Most were great visual spectacles which is often enough to derive enjoyment. One question, what were they smoking at the pitch meeting for "Mars Needs Moms."

Remaking *Ben-Hur* made absolutely no sense. It was a boring, 3 1/2 hour movie from 1959, and the only reason anyone remembers it today is because of the chariot race, which has been copied and spoofed in countless other media. We never needed to see it remade, and I seriously have to question who came up with this, and who did they think the intended audience was?

Halle Berry's bombs should be included for the box office bombs of century here they are Catwoman,Kings,Darktide,Kings,Perfect Stangers,Cloud Atlas and Moonfall.

You mentioned Kings twice. A movie which I first found out about at the DVD section at Target. A movie that probably didn't have a big budget like Catwoman, Cloud Atlas, or Moonfall, and definitely didn't have a wide release.
