Top 20 STOL (Short Take Off & Landing) Aircraft

A short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft is a conventional fixed-wing aircraft that has short runway requirements for takeoff and landing. Many STOL-designed aircraft also feature various arrangements for use on airstrips with harsh conditions (such as high altitude or ice). STOL aircraft, including those used in scheduled passenger airline operations, have also been operated from STOLport airfields which feature short runways. We look at 20 STOL aircraft that need shortest runway for take offs and landings.

The just aircraft super stol is very good at stol but the clip shown was not a super stol but rather a glacier cub flown by Bobby Breeden

Carbon Cub is close but Kit Fox STOL with 915 turbo is shorter.

I see a lot of different stol aircraft from our home. There are a half dozen small private airstrips with a few miles of our house. I had a 7ECA Champ back in the 1980s. I put a 150 HP on it and it was fun. It was an expensive toy. I used to get transported to work sites in many different kinds of airplanes and helicopters. That’s what some communications techs do in Alaska.

@@Chris_at_Home very cool. I would love to have a Kit Fox with the new 916 turbo. Yep, a “916” not a 915.

@@tinaann3323 They have a distinctive sound. I live a little over 3 miles from airport BGQ and there is at least one that flys out of there. We have a pretty good view for plane spotting. There is a small airstrip with house/ hangers about 1/3 mile away. I can see them doing their approach’s and climb outs. We also see many F-22s departing and approaching JBER (20 miles south) and C-17s doing runs on a drop zone about 15 miles from here. It’s like I can get away from it. I was an avionics tech on P-3s 50 years ago on a 4 years enlistment then a couple of years after I got out I worked 2 years on the assembly floor at P&WA putting together JT8s and 9s. I wanted back in electronics and moved to Alaska. I know I flew in 737s commuting to Prudhoe Bay that I had worked on the assembly floor. We used to see the customer on the assembly paperwork.
