My current favourite is the Magna Forest ESC, took a surprising amount of breaking in for a barefoot boot but like a grippy glove now. Love the Tracker Forest ESC for everything from deep mud to light winter mountaineering, even worked well with micro spikes. The Tracker II is good on dry trails or casually but going to sell mine as they run a little small and my feet have spread a fair bit since I bought them. A great boot they no longer make is the Tracker All weather, SG sole, a rubber rand and membrane make them great in winter, hope they bring it back one day. I did spy what looked like the Tracker III using the new stitches FG sole on one of Vivos videos a few months back 🤔.

Thanks for watching Paul. Maybe I came across a little harsh on the Tracker II. I still have a soft spot for them, but hard to recommend as the ‘only’ boot in a cover all scenario against such tough siblings. Also agree they run a little small and have to remove the insole compared to the others. Funny you should mention the Tracker All Weather SG 😉 make sure you’re subscribed for future videos … Glad the ESC are serving you well now they’re broken in Catch you on the trails mate ❎

I got a pair of magnaESC for a week of hiking in Canada, and they were comfy and perfect out the box. i did add a Northsole insole for some cushion. I also have the hi tracker Decons but I keep grabbing the magnaESCs. They are def heavy for a barefoot shoe but the softness of the leather and the lugs are worth it. Thanks for the video!

Been wearing the Magna FG for the last year and love them, fit every occasion they're bulletproof footwear put over 1300km tracked into them. But I've worn away all the FG sole so the grip has gone. Plan was always to upgrade to the Tracker Forest ESC at some point but what I've come realise with all this barefoot walking is that I don't really need that big a boot and that ankle protection, it's just extra lacing getting in the way and making the process longer. So I've just got the Magna Forest ESC, best of both worlds (IMHO) ESC sole plate, waterproof, great style, but demi boot height for usuability. Got the Bracken ones and paired them with Red elastic laces from Xpand which mean the slip on and off when needed but stay secure during use.

I am liking also the Magna Lite sg wr, would you be able and would want to share what is the temperature range they can be worn in? cause i hear you talk about “summer into the winter” in your other video but what temperatures are those in your area? Thank you n any case!!🦶

hey Marta, thanks for watching and your interest 😃 Consider checking out my recent Tracker Winter SG for a boot specifically made for cold and hostile conditions... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLCilaqXruDIeKs.html the Tacker Textile look a very interesting prospect, especially for customers who prefer a non-animal material. They also have the revised tread pattern like the Tracker Decon so find that favourable over the original FG pattern. in the UK its not so much the low temperature, we get into negative ºC but not really double figures, it's more the inherent wetness, rain and slush which adds the to general miserable nature. For example, i've spent winters in Ruka, Finland, where the thermometer is a lot lower (-20ºc) but the nature of the cold is a lot dryer, and more crisp. so lower temperatures are pleasant and 'feel' different. I realise I haven't answered your question with a specific number, some of that feel is perception based. what feels cold to one person is not cold to another, but I value a boot which supports my activties through all seasons and weathers. especially when I want to be warm and dry after going wild swimming somewhere. if I can help any further, please let me know ✌️

I do love my Forest ESC boots; leather with gusseted tongue so it really is water-proof-able; mud & snow capable luggy sole that still gives great read of the terrain because that lug pattern creates all those 'hinges' that articulate in all the right ways; I have an order in to Revivo for a pair of the low Decon FG2s. I wanted a fall/winter road/trail shoe for all the walking, hiking, and about-town stuff I do with my canvas Splay sneakers in the fairer months.

Waited a couple weeks after the shipment notice and inquired.. turned out they had been lost in transit, and instead of offering another of the same from stock, they cancelled the order and gave me a discount code to use on the main site for anything regular-priced. ..but the women's Low Decons were reduced so not applicable. I wish the tracker forest esc were waterproof! Used them for multiday hikes in norway and Sweden and the grip in the muddy and snowy mountains is amazing, but my feet got soaking wet. And then they make the tracker fg waterproof, but it has no grip. You'd think that peiple in muddy areas also need more waterproofing. It was a pity that the leather also took days to dry. So unfortunately on my next hike I won't be using them. Pity because i need the grip.

Thanks for the review! Quick Q: How do you find the feel of the laces with the softer tracker decon fabric in comparions to the leather of the tracker 2 fg? I am worried the laces will kind of cut into my foot when tightening up and going on solid hikes with the decon. Cheers
@OwenJackson
@OwenJackson 7 ай бұрын
The Decon laces haven’t caused me any issue or undue tension on my foot and ankle. I enjoy ankle movement so will often leave the highest lace lock undone. The elasticated ankle of the Decon also allows more mobility. If comfort and padding is the priority, you may prefer the Tracker II FG as the tongue and the ankle cuff is much thicker and plusher, especially If you are someone who likes to really wrap your ankles tightly with laces. They’re both great boots. Just some elements of personal preference to consider 😊 Let me know if I can help further. ✌🏻

I have a few pairs of vivos including tracker 2s and magnas. I tried the Magna lite SC WR and my socks were soaking after walking through wet grass for 20mins, so I think the WR label is misleading. Thanks for watching and the comment. I'm a big fan of the Tracker Forest ESC as you can tell from the video. While I haven't personally used the Magna Forest ES, I admire the practicality of the Magna line, especially the Magna SG + SG WR models. Being part of the ESC range, the Tracker and Magna share similarities, notably the excellent traction provided by the Michelin sole. However, based on my perspective, the Magna Forest Esc stands out for its faster pace and elasticated ankle cuff. On the other hand, the Tracker Forest ESC boasts a higher cuff, enhancing water resistance for deeper wading. I hope this clarifies things. Perhaps another viewer who has firsthand experience with the Magna can offer additional insights. ✌️

the Magna Forest ESC are fareout the best hiking shoes for me. I dont like ankle restrictment in my shoes. restricting ankle movements feel counterproductive in regards that we wear barefoot shoes for more foot and toes freedom, but why then restrict ankle movement?
@OwenJackson
@OwenJackson 3 ай бұрын
Ankle restriction in hiking shoes can indeed feel counterproductive, as it limits the foot's ability to adapt to uneven terrain and potentially hinders overall comfort and agility. So, your choice to prioritise freedom of movement not only aligns with the principles of barefoot footwear but also contributes to a more enjoyable hiking experience. I wear my boots loose and don't do up the top eyelet in order to maintain freedom but also water protection when hiking and exploring 😀

Thanks for the helpful review! I’m curious how you feel the waterproofing of the Magna Forest ESC compares to that of the Tracker II when treated with the “Renapur Leather Balsam”? In the care instructions it states that this “makes yours footwear waterproof”? I have worn the Tracker II’s for 1,5 years and LOVE them but their soles need repair and recently my shoes got completely soaked when walking through tall grass. I’ve had my eye on the Magna Forest ESC for a while but my only reservation is not knowing how well they withstand wet conditions. I will be going on a 2-week trekking and camping trip in Norway and would hope to keep my shoes as dry as possible (or failing that, opting for a shoe that dries reasonably well and fast since we will be camping). Sorry, I realise this question is rather specific but am curious if you have any thoughts based on your experience of both models? My husband has the Magna Lite’s and is completely happy, even though his shoes do get soaked when we’re out in wet conditions, due to the fast drying he does not mind. I run a little colder and am worried about the combination of wet shoes in a cold and windy climate…

@OwenJackson Ай бұрын
Hey Thais, thanks for your question. Here's some thoughts: The Tracker II FG are listed as a waterproof boot: "Made using hydrophobic treatments, non-absorbent materials, sealed seams, and an inner breathable membrane to make them completely waterproof." If you love your Tracker II's, consider getting them resoled through re-vivo. This way, you can keep your boots and extend their life. I only have direct experience with the Tracker Forest ESC and not the Magna Forest ESC, and they've performed really well for me. They're described as "WATER RESISTANT, made from materials that are water resistant and non-absorbent." They've only allowed water ingress when I've been through deep bogs or streams where water breached over the top of the boot. Given that the Magna Forest ESC has an elasticated upper, consider the depth of grass, streams, and terrain you'll be exploring in Norway. Honestly, I don't think there is a bad choice. and with a 100 day returns policy, you can give them a good test and see if your choice matches your needs. All the best and let me know if i can help any further. Don't forget to grab a discount in the description if you do decide to grab a new pair. Really glad to hear you’re enjoying my content Martin. Thank you my friend 🙏🏻 The Tracker 2 FG might be just what you need. While I might've seemed critical in the video, they're actually a lovable, durable, classic, and still get excited seeing those red laces. They handle everything from Tesco runs to stream crossings. How does the ESC boot do in UK summers? Is there any terrain/situations you feel it does not work so well? Thanks in advance for any advice.
@OwenJackson
@OwenJackson 7 ай бұрын
hey, Laura 🇬🇧 whereabouts are you based? I really appreciate you watching the video. I've enjoyed stomping through the recent snow [and subsequent slush] in my ESC's. Technically, the ESC are water resistant - not fully waterproof, as they're made using a water-resistant construction and non-absorbent materials. However, I've never had an issue with water ingress, even up to my ankles. The only time I got wet feet was when I was being gungho, and let water breach over the top of the collar of the boot during a river crossing 😆 If you’re after a waterproof specified boot, check out the Tracker Winter SG - video here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLCilaqXruDIeKs.html A very comprehensive boot and excels in many of the same scenarios, apart from the grip isn't as extreme as the ESC. The ESC is also more roomy in a comparable size if you're someone who likes a bigger fit [I do]. Their sole is also stitched, rather than glued on the Tracker Winter, so they are potentially tougher. I don't think there is a bad choice between the ESC and the Tracker Winter SG, it just comes down to the extremes and specificities of your use case. If I can help any further, please let me know, also don't forget until the end of December 2023 there is 20% off using code OJ20.

I plan to use them in Winter and Summer, rain or shine (I'm in the UK so both Winter and Summer aren't "extreme" seasons) and will be used on the Beach, exposed to sea air and splashes of sea water (from dogs), rain, mud, forest walking (a little trail walking too), ocasional use for Golf mainly in the winter when its soft wet and muddy and a little standard road/path walking. Dont suppose youd have a recomendation between Magna Forest ESC and Magna Lite WR SG for my use cases? Thanks!

Both are excellent choices, but let me share my thoughts. For all-year-round, all-terrain, and all-weather use, you really can't go wrong with the ESC range. It's consistently stellar in performance.With that in mind, I would towards the Magna Forest ESC. It's just got that extra edge for me. Keep in mind vivo offer a 100-day returns policy. So, if you decide to go with one and later change your mind, you've got that safety net. Hope that helps you make your decision, whichever way you go 👌 let me know what you decide

@@OwenJackson i had bought my first pair of whitten runners a while ago, much more comfortable than all the shoes i previously owned, but my baby toe rubs on outside. So i plunged on apair of vivo decons. They fit, though i max it out in width. The whittens were only $50 so i borrowed the insole from them. Its some kind of a dense memory foam, and it reflects body heat directly back, quite comfortable to walk in winter with them, though my baby toe is off the edge of witton insole in the decon.

Is there a difference in how the different soles wear on pavement? I'm looking for a boot that I can use in the street during Scandinavian winters as well as hiking boot on muddy and wet, rocky terrain. It seems FG soles are better for the first, SG and ESC for the latter. It would be a shame to lose the grip of an SG or ESC soles by walking too much in the streets. Not sure if there is a boot that can do it all?
@OwenJackson
@OwenJackson 10 ай бұрын
Hey Tommy. You’re correct. FG better for firm ground with SG and ESC being far more aggressive for off-road use. I’ve been using the Magna Lite SG WR for a 50:50 split of road/ off-road and they’re showing no detrimental signs. The ESC has also been easily able to handle roads walks before I hit the trail. Obviously there is a direct correlation to the amount of walking to wear induced. But all boots will suffer some degradation over time. All the best and let me know if I can help further ✌🏻

Thanks for watching 👍 Is the hiking predominantly hard pack or loose ground that you intend on using the boot? Tracker Decon is a fantastic boot for predominantly harder ground. For warmer climates such as Australia, I’d consider the regular Magna Lite SG as the WR may inhibit some of the breathability. the SG [soft ground] grip of the Magna is confidence inspiring and great to have. Their lightweight nature blows me away everytime. Like a rugged trainer. Really inspiring to hike and fast pack in. The Decons with their FG [firm ground] grip is not bad, and has given good traction in modest conditions. They definitely feel like more of a boot through their weight and construction. They also have a stitched sole which is better for longevity. I pick them often for daily duties and filming when i'm not sure what ill encounter, but dont need the aggression of the Magna. what does you heart say? Jim, I appreciate your input, but let's address a few points here. Firstly, I've been using the ESC for almost a year now, and they've been on the market even longer. Just to clarify, I have no contractual obligations to VIVO, nor do they have any control over my content. Every opinion and thought shared on my channels is entirely my own. I operate as an independent creator, with the freedom to produce and distribute content as I see fit. While I do hold an Ambassador role and receive a small commission from purchases made using my discount code, it's important to note that this arrangement benefits both my audience and me. The choice to use my code is entirely up to the buyers. Regarding your strong stance on the Tracker Decon, I personally find them to be a great and versatile boot, which I've detailed further in my content, video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iq5gpa11183OmY0.html It's evident that you're passionate about barefoot products, which is commendable. However, it's crucial to remember that opinions on such matters are subjective. In my experience, I've encountered multiple situations where the ESC's traction and water resistance outperformed other options, making them my preferred choice. It's all about perspective and personal preference.
