Only air defence system that has actually proved itself successful in combat is the British sea dart. It protected US ships from anti ship missiles while phalanx was busy shooting the ship it was supposed to protect.

Oh ya, the Vulcan that detects friendly aircraft as enemies and is useless against Drones and Jets. Also your part about the RIM-116 is completely wrong, you not only show a SeaRAM at a point, but you say it is Supported by a Gatling Gun, which makes absolutely no sense

The Phalanx doesn't identify friendly aircraft as enemies, it has to pass a variety of target classification tests including IFFing of the target until it can fire. The Phalanx is meant for direct defense, and although it can perform area defense its purpose is not to take down drones and jets that are not flying directly at the ship, it is meant for small manuvering targets that are propelling themselves in the direction of the ship. In the RIM-116 section, he is right, the SeaRAM is rim-116 but with a Phalanx radar on it and he even says that (did you watch the video?), and when he says it is supported by a gatling gun he is referring to the fact that the FCS (fire control system) is the same system for both the rim-116 and phalanx (of which has a gatling gun), meaning they work together.

@@johnmknox Hello from 2022. Hypersonic missile "Kinzhal" were successfully used in the fight against a deep bunker in Ukraine. A rocket flying in a cloud of plasma at a speed of 4 kilometers per second cannot be stopped.

It doesn't seem as RM Oerlikon Millenium is used in a lot of armies. Which is surprising, if claims of it's characteristics are true. Seems like, the characteristics doesn't look as good as claimed for other countries, as and they found a lot of underwater rockss and issues with it. Otherwise i see no reason why it's not in UK, France, Italy, even NATIVE GERMAN army! Something must be wrong there mate. I have some assumptions about it, but whatevs, i'm really not in a mood for trying to disprove anything 😴

@@Matze239 exactly. Denmark, Venezuela, Indonesia. Which also use russian coastal armaments at the same time. I may be wrong, but if system would be so good, it would be much more widespread. So far it looks exactly opposite - noone bothers getting those apart few experiment countries 🤷‍♂️

@@jdaniels4898 the system with all its accessories is still relatively new and, since it's Rheinmetall, probably quite expensive I'm sure it has outstanding performance and capabilities as it's always the case with Rheinmetall, but there's probably cheaper options out there Cheaper, not better, but good enough I suppose

10,000 rounds per minute, that's around 167r,ps, that's crazy, a 5 second burst is enough to bring anything down if object is hit in the Right places, some maybe even brought down even quicker.

Are the phalanx guns always on because I could see someone in a small civilian aircraft flying close to a battleship or aircraft carrier near the coast just to get a better look and be cool or whatever and accidentally get shot down by the Terminator like sea wiz Phalanx cannons it automatically Target tracks and engages making a Killa valuation assessment on its own

Phalanx holds 1,550 rounds which is enough for 20-30 seconds of fire. That is enough to engage several threats. Given that those threats would first have to pass through other layers of defense, that is likely enough for anything but saturation attacks, which are logistically very difficult for an enemy to pull off.

The ideal anti-missile/air system, first off has to have a great search and tracking radar system. Assuming that, the ideal would be a weapons mix requiring a threat to pass through multiple different systems at differing ranges. First of these would be the longest range and most capable SM-6 missle which would primarily be kept in reserve for ABM and hypersonic threats. Then you'd have SM-2 missiles for engaging missiles and aircraft out to 90 miles. Anything getting past that first envelope would then have to make it past ESSM missiles at 30 miles that are carried four to a VLS tube. Beyond that threats would at 6 miles have to break past the Rolling Airframe Missiles. Finally anything making it past that would have to deal with either a 76mm gun with DART ammo or 57mm with ORCA ammo and finally some sort of CIWS gun system. Any missile that could make it past all of that probably 'deserves' to hit it's target.

Boys, these ain't nothing on the Irish Defence Forces' navy tech: they've got just 8 small ships, each less than 2,000 tonnes. Standard arnaments include phaser arrays, rail guns, quantum topedoes, cloaking devices. There are few navies, such as the RN with which this technology is shared.

I think u should have put the goalkeeper above the Pahalnx because its has been proven to be more accurate and more deadly, the radar is also made to say alive while other parts on the ship are damaged while the Phalanx relies a lot on the ships systems.

You have that the wrong way around. Phalanx is a completely stand alone system with it’s own radar and requires zero deck penetration, just a power connection. Goalkeeper on the other hand penetrates several decks and needs a large coolant system, consisting of several large cabinets.

CIWS do not need accuracy, accuracy for AAA is bad, they send swarm of shells in enemy direction and maybe some of them hit it, at least how it made in russia

No one has a secret radar that's better then US Aegis system with Spy-6 coming out this year its 4 times more powerful then spy1 and 8 times as strong as S-400 search radar which is supposed to be the most powerful Sam system radar, the THAAD radar is strictly BALLISTIC able to have a 2800km range detection range while S-400 has a 700km search radar for BALLISTIC deense.

Goalkeeper has been declared obsolete by the Dutch Navy and is scheduled to be withdrawn from service over the next few years. Phalanx is now used in the USN primarily as an anti-surface weapon. Like most of these lists, this one is useless.

the 20 MM Phalanx CIWS (Block 60) should be paired with the RIM-116 SeaRAM, similar to the Pantsir-ME CIWS!!! secondly the 20 MM M61 Vulcan in the Phalanx CIWS seriously needs to be replaced with a navalized version of the 30 MM GAU-23/A rapid fire rotary gun!!!

Based on what? It doesn't have a better range than say Goldkeeper or Phalanx... Rheinmetall GDM-008 has almost double the range of the type1130, and Bofors 40 mm and 57 mm guns are even longer range (with more effective ammo). And that is before we look at the OTO Melara 76 mm gun... I am sure that the type1130 is a good system, but to claim it is the best CIWS is a bit out there.

Well the goalkeeper is the grand daddy of the CIWS and it’s gone be fased out on the new ships. The Dutch are working on a new AI based system. On the new Dutch, Belgian and also German ships this AI will have control over the ships weapons and electronic warfare system. For the Dutch ships the weapon systems it will be directing include; - 64 ESSM block 2 - 21 RAM RIM-116 - 2 secondary 40mm cannons - The main 76mm cannon with DART guided ammunition. For the Belgians - 32 ESSM block 2 - 21 RAM RIM-116 - 1 secondary 40mm cannon - The main 76mm cannon with DART guided ammunition. For the Germans 64 ESSM block 2 and 42 RAM RIM-116.

any CIWS be it the Pantsir-M or the Phalanx, all CIWS should feature triple 30 MM GAU-8/A rapid fire rotary cannon!!! even the 23 MM GSh-6-23 on the Pantsir-M for that matter!!! if I'm correct the RIM-116 is a fire-&-forget SAM, it's not an anti-ship missile (as stated in this video)!!!

Idenpendet Turkish defence industry was planned back in the 90's but was really slow due to American controlled NATO gladiators embedded in the Navy,The gladiators also did the same to the American Navy back in 1945's The Ellite always start from the Navy,however Erdogan speeded up things by calling people back to Turkey who were working on their own projects in America like skunk works etc.They tried a coup but failed even throwing in Iraq & Syria to destabilize Turkey,They don't want Turkey to own the med sea !!

Wrong, the best Air Defence systems of all are LR systems that take out the launch Platforms long before they get within range of launching AShM. CIWS are a hail Mary system at best and with the latest Hypersonic Missiles you could blow up the Missile but still suffer extensive damage due to being hit by debris.

Anything on this list that's Soviet/Russian will have performance characteristics that are questionable as we have seen in the Ukraine how their systems generally are overrated.

Wrong. Russian Kashtan (Kortik) is number 2. It is much more powerful than the Phalanx. I the Kashtan was rated number 1 for years before the Pantir came on stream. Besides, just look at the secs. It speaks for itself.
