I own a Katanaboy 650. I purchased the file for it and my saw is made for sharpening. It is my understanding you have to sharpen the diamond-shaped tips of the blade. All I need to do now is to find a Japanese guy in town who knows how to use the file.

I just picked up a katanaboy a pocketboy and the Silky F180 after watching CP Rave about them, and to be honest I'm blown away. I just got home and tried them out and wow... Just wow. Spend the extra money and buy yourself one of these. You will not be dissatisfied. Thanks for the info CP.

I wished those had been around forty years ago when I was growing up on the farm. I used to cut three cords of firewood in a weekend. Excellent Video As Always. 💯👍👍😎🇺🇸

I wish they'd been around for that purpose too. Bow and axes get dull after field dressing a couple of good size trees and it would have been nice to have a a easy to handle saw to cut the points on the fence post we had to check every spring how many acres did your family have for the farm? My grandfather had 200 wooded lot and 100 for the cows and livestock and 50 to grow veg

they kinda were, they were used a lot in orchards i grew up playing in 40 years ago. those back then did not fold, but still the same concept.

First, your video are just getting better and better. I'm impressed, centralize information and condense in a optimal way. Second, I agree. The axe is good for ad vitam aerternam durability, but its not to most optimal way to cut wood. The best way is that you get a saw for cutting and an axe for splitting, that's my set. Wish you the best Canadian Prepper.

The underrated katanaboy 500 is my favourite because despite being a large saw, it still fits inside a backpack. I think the 650 is just a hair too long for most of my packs.

have fun rebuying the expensive blades...you cant efficiently resharpen the impuls hardened theet. Silkys are not a long term solution

@@martinerhard8447 I have had mine for more than 3 years, use it regularly and am still on the first blade. Therefore if a 80$ blade last me 5 years, at 16 dollars a year I can live at that price for an awesome saw. All depends on the saw you buy. Over the years I have spent more money on cheap saws that break in the middle of a job. One just has to know how to use the saw in the right manor

@@glenncook depends how often you use it then. Mine didnt last a year until i noticed my bowsaw outperforming it. silkys are perfect for the hobby bushcrafter but not as working saws.

Nate, SIr, I can attest to the 1000 mutha as well as the 650. I bought both from you and I use both as well as the Bigboy. The 1000 really helped recently for cutting. I used all three of the above to process 21 trees that I had to cut down on my wooded property. All WORTH THE INVESTMENT. Yes I have a chain saw but did not use the chainsaw for any of the trees that I literally cut down. Thanks for all you do!

How is the katana boy for cutting up a downed tree? I’m thinking the angle change on the big boy may be better even if it takes longer.

My buddy saw is a Gomboy 240, it goes everywhere with me. I also like the Agawa Canyon Boreal 21 for knotty branches where blades tend to bind because sometimes frustration overcomes the smooth cut engineering of the Silky. I think the Zubat would be in my future since it seems very stable to work with. My next immediate purchase will be a small Silky for dog walking along the creek where that same branch continually snags my hood or hat when my attention is focused on uneven ground. Irritation is a powerful motivational force. I just wish that the smaller Silky saws came with a decent sheath.

The entire blades are ground thinner from teeth to the back spine so it doesn't need a saw tooth kerf. Every few teeth two teeth are cut differently for a reason.

The first saw you had in your hand with the pistol grip is the best of all. I own a NW tree farm and spend a whole lot of time in the woods trimming trees and cutting brush. I have one of those fixed on my dirt bike and it is a must. The bigger ones might work for some things but any thin blade saw is going to bind at some point so anything bigger than the pistol grip saw is pointless for a woods saw. The one I have cuts both directions and is the sharpest most agile hand saw I have ever used. It was expensive and well worth it. About $50. I thought that was a crazy amount of money for a hand saw until I used it. Now I will never be without one.

I got the Catanaboy 500 and I think it's the best way to go with in terms of price, functionality and size. it can still cut a really big trunk - bigger ones u couldn't actually lift..

I have one of the larger blades it was great when I had to harvest dead elm to burn during winter it also had that long handle so I could take out the low branches to get in at the trunk and take out widow makers

Good video! I’d pick one small one and one large one. Then, practise using them in different cutting situations so you’re not wasting time later on when time is limited.

For the pistol grip add-on you talked about for the katanaboy 1000, I wonder if you couldn’t somehow DIY that. As in, there’s the screw knob for the locking mechanism. I haven’t inspected it in person to gauge the feasibility of the idea, but couldn’t you somehow completely unscrew (or make it possible to completely unscrew) that locking mechanism and replace it with a screw in pistol grip in the field? Seems like something it could be possible and practical.

Japanese shark tooth design. Sharpened on three sides. I had some saws with this tooth design about 40 years ago. A one time use Feather File was used to sharpen these blades. It seems the feather files these days can be used a few times but in the old days they were one time use. I never had one so I'm not 100% on that. The reason why this saw is able to cut without using a tooth kerf is the entire blade is tapered thinner at the back than the blade edge. $5,000 US was cheap to buy a saw made by a master back then. It went up from that price. Even China has knives etc we never see here. They have been doing this stuff for thousands of years. $35,000 Bonsai Scissors from Japan's last old style scissor maker. I have two Silky saws. Excellent gear. Check out Japanese joinery that has to withstand earthquakes. Pull saws help in making intricate slip joints that allow movement during an earthquake whereas our traditional American joinery snap at the joints during an earthquake

Good video. I'll buy the Ultra Accel 240, that has aluminum chassis in the handle. The only problem with Silky Gomboy or Bigboy or Pocketboy was the rubber-only handle (no internal frame) that pinched your hand, according to the British bushcrafter Ste

I have one saw for carrying with me when going camping and it is nice and one receiving a high recommendation from some users. I have a buck saw, but can't carry it with me due to it's size and it is one we used when I was growing up. The large saws you showed are ones I could not want to carry around with me due to their size and weight.

these are great videos keep them coming! but i got a chuckle out of this one. these types of saws are what i used to play with growing up in the apple, cherry, and pear orchards in Washington state 40 years ago. the 650 and 1000 are similar to the pole saws used in the orchards, except those old ones had fixed handles. these saws are a great thing to have with you when ever you are in the woods. not so much where i live now in the grasslands, lol. now i am wondering if i could find an old one in a flea market or antique store.

Sweet ive been dying for a silky plug for months 😂 the katanaboy is cool you should see how many cords of wood it cuts before it is dull thats a test id like to see cause in long term survival you would prob have to cut over 10 cords a year for cooking and heat

I bought the 650 from your site and just used it in maine at a friends house. Storm took a tree down and it went through like butter. I just found a guy on fb marketplace, selling a 500 shipped to me for $95 and its new. Cant go wrong

I do landscaping and the boss man will supply us with the cheapest folding saws that he can find so this year I went out and bought my own silky 180 and there is definitely a difference between a silky and the cheap knock-offs.

the corona brand is really good, and a lot cheaper. they use sk4 steel too, I have one and it's as good as a silky. they just don't make bigger ones, so for that go silky

Need to have another Silky saw mod. Have folding handles at the ends (folds together for the complete safety of the blade) for a 2 man operation with the 1000.

I used the Silky Saw I ordered from your site to junk some maple for the woodstove in the shed after snowblowing tonight. Day 2 state of emergency snowstorm in St. John's Newfoundland today. 92 centimeters of snow fell in my driveway.

Has anyone tried the Lee Valley's Katanaboy knockoff, the "Folding Trail Saw"? 600mm. Looks to be Korean made. Less than 1/2 the price of the Katanaboy 500. I know you get what you paid for, but in my experience Lee Valley sells great stuff. Also marketed in the UK by CeUK forestry products... anyway, if you run across it, I'd love to see a test.

if one only could carry all these things. oftentimes, one has to choose-a good knife vs a good hatchet or a good ax and all of the above vs ammo or water or whatever is more critical at the time of SHTF and soon after it (3-6 months). So your saws are nice, no questions about it, but what will you choose 100 more cartridges plus just a knife or 100 cartridges plus just an ax or 100 cartridges+your saw? I guess this question is purely rhetoric. You kind of touched on the fact that an ax will last longer than any saw. Of course, if you have space and plenty of ammo and you are not running out of your house.. sure. I may consider buying ZUBAT from you as it has minimal moving parts if any and the blade length is quite sufficient of 33cm, plus sheath allows it to be carried outside of the bag's main compartments

I have the Gomboy 240 and the Big Boy 2000 XL and i love them both. I have thought about getting the Katana Boy 500. I have to disagree about the axe, I have the Husqvarna 26" Multipurpose Forest Axe and it's the shit. It saves so much energy. As for being loud, I'd rather have one good whack with an axe versus multiple whacks batoning with a knife or froe. On another note, what is that Coyote Brown Fleece Jacket you're wearing in the video? It looks like tye Helikon Tex Patriot Fleece. I have been wanting one bad for a while. I like the Multicam and OD Green ones.

Hey why not get rid of that ginormous handle and put old school one man cross cut saw handle and plastic sheath on the 1000, be like a big zubat but way better, get intouch I'll help with design
