The best thing about the Marathi film industry is that it makes movies on the most taboo topics in the most progressive, yet non-intrusive, inoffensive and family-oriented manner. They do not ape the L.A. based wokeism that most wannabe Bollywood filmmakers succumb to.

The LA based wokeism you speak about is also very dismissive as if all hindi films cater to that same gaze. It's only true for a few commercial projects. You are actually seeing most writers wanting to go back in history and mythology and present stories rooted to India.

@@TriedRefusedProductions Most of them do. Now if you simply go through most of the fare that is offered on Netflix which is backed by several big Bollywood banners, I don't think it is a far-fetched claim. It's like certain sensibilities which might work in certain countries but are not compatible with our socio-cultural ground realities are being shoved down out throats. Those filmmakers who are rooted in our culture and go back in our history to make films are accused of historical revisionism by these very same lobbies.

@@user-xx3fr1ko8c Netflix and their marketing strategy in India is actually a proven failure. That is an anomaly if you compare it to the hindi films releasing on platforms like sonyliv, zee5 and amazon prime video or just straight to theatres. The reason why Bollywood invites hate is that it projects itself as the sole representative film industry of India. Synonymous with "Indian cinema" as a whole. Completely ignoring the fact that there are at least 55 regional language industries in the country. I remember an old episode on Koffee with Karan which had been graced by Richard Gere and Karan Johar had at that time in order to impress him, shown him a couple of clips from the films of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. And he stated that these are the best talents in our country right now. I mean seriously?! While I am not taking away anything from the fact that the trio of Bachchan and both Khans are compelling talents, is it appropriate to represent only these three as the best talents our country's cinema can offer? Ignoring the various regional industries like Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, etc?

Jammy bhai there's lot regional movies to explore, here few to name Ringan (Marathi) Pimpal (Marathi) Killa (Marathi) Shwas (Marathi) Ek hazaarchi note (Marathi) Ghabricha Paus (Marathi) Bicchagadu (Telugu) Unda (Malayalam) Angamalay dairies ( Malayalam) Nayattu (Malayalam) Vikriti (Malayalam) These flicks didn't got the kind of exposure they deserve.

I really loved the metaphor of the "kaasav", i.e. the turtle retreating into its shell as symbolic of the crushing impact clinical depression has on sufferers. Some may be able to escape that shell with the appropriate support and timely help. Others may remain constrained to the shell and probably never emerge out of it. Which too is a brutal reality for millions.

Indeed they are amazing movies but selection is only one factor there are several other factors allso which one should consider and one of that is capital. If there is another film and even if it is a bit inferior in terms of quality to these movies but by means of capital it is superior then that movie has more chances to be nominated. Coz to win oscars we need more screening in US so capital is must. The number of times you screened will have a huge influence for nomination. So another option is sponsorship but indian movies sent to Oscars are never known to have a chance to get nominated so it is hard to get sponsorship so I don't think they would get nominated but it would a great step of change or in another words sending these kinds of movies can start revolution in Indian cinema industries.

The Marathi industry has got several superlative talents who are stars in their own right. But due to a lack of a star system like Bollywood and powerful lobby systems at the national level of the kind Southern industries have, Marathi cinema has kinda become a pariah in its home state of Maharashtra. And the fact that Bollywood impinges on its territory even in the financial capital of Maharashtra and India, i.e. Mumbai, doesn't help matters. Marathi people themselves often avoid going to theaters to watch Marathi films, instead opting for the latest Bollywood blockbuster. Yes, even I am personally guilty of this often. Marathi films hence have to reply solely on an overwhelmingly positive word of mouth to generate business. Recent hits like Jhimma, Zombivali and Paavan Khind have kinda broken the dry spell but it is not enough.

Sir please show some real love to Malayalam movies. I am from West Bengal. Born in bhiar. I am fluent in maithli, Nepali, Bengali, Hindi and English. The first Malayalam movie that i watched was Bangalore days. When i saw Fahadh for the first time in that movies, i was like kaun hae bae yae?( In a ridiculing tone). I searched for all of his movie than. From annayum rasoolam to Joji, i watched all. I then watched all the new age Malayalam movies. From koode to jeroge, from a k aayappam kodhiyam to kumbalangi nights, from angamaly diaries to sudani from Nigeria. All this movies are so real to watch. From acting to screenplay everything comes to life. Malayalam cinema is a blessing for movie watchers like us

Nowadays most Hindi films are not necessarily in Hindi, it's more like Hinglish(about 45% dialogues are in English). Just a broad observation of the OTT space....

Tamil Nadu has more Educated population and Speaks English much more in Proportion than Hindi states, yet I don't see the forced need to incorporate English dialogues that aren't even fluent to those actors who deliver dialogues in Tamil movies, Unlike Hindi films!!!!! Be it Hindi films or Hindi webseries! Its not natural at all! A Hindi movie can have 90 percent English dialogues but that must be organic but all is see is fake accents and characters speaking English hears to audience that it is under some compilation they speak!
