Hi, thanks for the video. I am now looking for a new phone and i was looking at two models: xperia proi and xperia 10vi. I now have the a21s and i think im ready to upgrade. Would you recommend the proi over 10vi? I would be buying proi used as it is a lot cheaper. I really like to have great cameras, sd card slot and headphone jack port and battery on my phone so i think these would be good choices, do you think so? Any other phones you would recommend? I think that proi would be solid pick and i like the design on it

Good day! You're very welcome! If you don't mind Android 13, not receiving security updates from Sony (but still from Google Play), need a display with 4k (for video editing and digital camera monitor) and will use the PRO-I for mostly photos and video, I would definitely recommend going with it. Especially if you can get it at a good price. But if you need the most current OS and Sony security updates, and need longer battery life, for sure the Xperia 10vi. I still feel the camera's on the PRO-I are superior to the 10vi's, plus you get a 50mm telephoto which surprisingly takes great portraits and close up shots in decent lighting. Both phones aren't great as smartphone focused devices so it really comes down to what I mentioned before. Also, going from the Samsung A21 to the Xperia PRO-I will feel like you won the lottery! Hehe!

Some of their products are great and have an aesthetic to them other companies lack. But they have incompetent and horrible customer and repair service depending on the region you live in. A great product can't cover that up if an issue pops up and it can't be resolved the first time and in a timely manner!

Yes I agree those are excellent and rare features for a smartphone but this video was about the top 5 most standout features I saw from using the Xperia PRO-I for almost two years. I rarely removed my external SD card and the headphone jack stopped working last year (an issue I also have with my WH-1000XM3's and ZVE-10 digital camera). If you want to check out a video I made on the issues I experienced from it, I'll post the link in the description box.

@@thefitlifechannel2021 why headphone jack stopped working and did you fix that
@thefitlifechannel2021
@thefitlifechannel2021 6 күн бұрын
@@not_amanullah I have a feeling the metal for the headphone jack input expanded from frequent overheating of the phone when using the main camera. It sits pretty close to the camera system. It expanded permanently and now the headphone jack doesn't sit inside firmly and moves around. I used to record with external microphones for my earlier You Tube videos but because of this issue, it didn't record the sound and I lost the footage. That's why you see me using the internal mics now when I record with the PRO-I. But I'm not a 100% sure but it's something I've also observed happened with my Sony headphones and digital camera. Unfortunately, I never fixed it because I ended up getting a digital camera to record my You Tube videos. Because it can get really hot and humid where I record videos, the PRO-I would only last 1-5 minutes and then overheat, shut down many features or exit out of Video PRO app. So it became frustrating to record with. Also, the Sony Service Center near me can be incompetent and I didn't want my phone out for repair for a long time (I submitted a Sony camera lens to them for repair and it took 7 months!!!). That's another reason I never bothered to have it repaired.

I've been using smartphones since the Nokia N900 and the most significant thing that has stood out to me throughout, I've never had one that could completely satisfy everything I needed. That's why at one point I had an Xperia 1 and Samsung Note phone. The Sony does better as a camera centric device, the Samsung as a smartphone first. I'm glad the Xperia I VI went with that screen size and resolution, my Xperia PRO-I rarely uses it's "4K" mode except when I have it connected as an external mother to a camera or reviewing 4k content. Plus my big fingers and hands had issues typing frequently on that slim display!

Don't you mind the fact that they are made of leather and the little ventilation they have when lifting weights with them?
@thefitlifechannel2021
@thefitlifechannel2021 9 күн бұрын
Yes in hot and humid weather they can heat up because of the leather upper restricting airflow. But I never had sweaty socks wearing them. There are gaps near the tongue and around the ankle area where heat can escape. I sweat profusely and get hot during workouts so I don't really notice them being a burden on my feet. But it may be to others so best to use these in an AC or cool environment for workouts.

I still love my Sony Pro-I, well as long as I don't use it for video 😕 Just amazes me that you can get natural bokeh from a smartphone without AI or other artificial enhancement tools. Actually this is why I love this phone is that I can take raw photos that are actually raw, not some softend, over saturated unnatural images that people want so they can post strait to SM. @thefitlifechannel2021 4 күн бұрын
@@PeterEk31 Yup, sometimes I question the video quality too. Especially when the PRO-I becomes hot. I found it better for taking pics in good lighting and keeping the ISO below 1000. The DNG files also have some more room for editing compared to the ones I edited from an iPhone 13PRO and Samsung Note 20 Ultra. I've been waiting for version 2 for awhile now but seems like the rumors about it were more for hype and attention than proving to be accurate. Even the recent one about a compact version that came out soon after the announcement of the Xperia I VI was a bit suspicious. And that's what I noticed, most of the PRO-I ii rumors pop up around a new Xperia release but never pan out. But hopefully Sony has been listening for the past few years and see's there's a strong demand for a second version of the PRO-I. But its probably gonna be expensive. Maybe $2000US+, just look at how much the Xperia 1 VI is!!!!

I've had my phone since it came out with vlog kit I happened to get a great student discount something like $700 off. Honestly have not used the phone as much as I hoped I would because the battery drains so fast when its your main phone and also camera you'd have to have a battery bank on you. The cinema pro app is the best feature but doesn't work with the vlogging monitor! As for the using as a connected monitor for a dslr I never used it for that. But I've recorded fantastic concert footage. After having it for years now I still miss the wireless charging and hate when its humid or the phone gets wet it won't charge if it senses moisture in the charge port and you have no alternative to charge it. I fully charged the phone while at a concert and it was pretty much on single digits when leaving the concert after 2-3 hours. Image quality is great and the cinema pro is fantastic but can't use that for vlogigng. I think you'd might as well use it if it wasn't your main phone or get a samsung galaxy ultra. It's great as a portable minimalist camera. All my ports still work.

Thank you for sharing this! I didn't know about the vlog monitor and Cinema Pro.I'm glad I held off on it. Mine has a similar issue to when it's really humid. It's very difficult to charge or transfer files. And the battery drains fast partially because of the Snapdragon processor but also the RX100 sensor and processor. I have the same issue with my ZV1 that uses the same sensor. I feel the PRO-I does best as a compact camera with a large display and can upload pics fast compared to traditional cameras. It still lasts longer compared to my ZV1 and ZVE-10 digital cameras, especially when shooting in hot environments.

The ZV1 takes really detailed and vibrant pics and to have the PRO-I come close sometimes blows my mind. Sometimes I can get the video footage close too. I'm sorry for the late response. I didn't forget about! I had a severe case of food poisoning for a week. Hehe! The lapel microphone I'm using is part of the Sony ECM-W2 BT Wireless Microphone system. The lapel microphone itself is ECM-LV1. I did try using it only on my Sony Xperia PRO-I and it didn't work. The ECM-W2 BT isn't compatible with the PRO-I. I did use a Rode SmartLav+ before and it worked really well for my vlogs. The issue it that the cable is really short so it's only good for handheld vlogs. You would need to get an extension if you want to vlog from a desk or somewhere similar. Just bought a sony xperia 5 IV for 128€, shattered glass back, easy fix My daily driver is the 5 II, with an android 14 custom rom to be up to date. Love these little sonys Actually I'd think that the 888 (or even 8gen1 on future sony phones) woul be an issue, these processors are made by Samsung instead of TSMC, and they overheat like crazy. I'm pretty sure my Xperia 5 II will beat the 5 IV in terms of real world performance when I'll compare them... You can actually get them to overheat while filming, so it's not just an issue when playing games or something Still, probably a phone worth getting if you find a good price, I'd personnaly go for the 1 V if I had that kind of cash

Wow! You made out well with the Xperia 5 IV! How are you liking Android 14? Any major updates over 13? Yup, the Snapdragon 888 can run hot sometimes but have to really push it. Also being crammed into a slim body like the PRO-I with the RX100 series sensor and processor can make things a bit toasty sometimes. But I've had few issues with the 888, it still runs as great as the day I received the PRO-I. Sony did an excellent job tuning it which is something a lot of reviews fail to point out. They focus too much on the specs instead of actual daily use. I'm confident I could go a few more years and it will still perform with few hiccups.

Actually the most common complaint of the PRO-I for myself is that it overheats fast when using the cameras in 30+C weather. I'm lucky to get 30-120 seconds of video before overheating warnings or the video app shuts down. Same with photos. The compact camera sensor in that slim body runs really hot. I have the same sensor in my Sony ZV1 compact camera and it becomes really hot recording in 4k but won't shut down like the PRO-I after 1-2 minutes. There's more space in the camera body for heat to dissipate so it can run longer hot. I had a feeling Android 14 didn't offer much. I tend to recommend to those looking to upgrade their phone because of the newer OS not to make it a priority. It's been minor upgrades year after year and nothing that significantly improves the smartphone experience.

Their products have a cool, balanced aesthetic to them and they like to try new things few other companies would dare. Do you remember their DSC QX-10 and 100 attachable camera lens? Basically took the lens and sensor from some of their digital cameras and adapted it so they could be attached to your smartphone. They remind me of what Sony did with the Xperia PRO-I. For context I’m not a photographer and never owned a dedicated camera. But I’m going to Iceland this summer and want to make a photo book of the pics I take. Do you think the zv1 would be good for someone like me or will my iPhone suffice?
@thefitlifechannel2021
@thefitlifechannel2021 Ай бұрын
Good day! I feel the ZV1 is a better choice for your trip if you plan on taking a lot of pics. It's better than the iPhone because of it's versatile focal length, multiple apertures and natural background blur for great portrait or closeup shots. Its fairly easy to use on auto mode, or if you have the time, learn how to use the shutter and aperture modes for more control over motion and background focus. I know you mentioned you will use it mostly for pics but it does make a great video or vlogging camera. Some people like to record themselves and others when traveling so it's good to have that option. Of course the downside is you have to carry another device with you, but its light, easy to carry and pull out of a bag to use. It starts up really quick, just open the lcd display and start taking pics. If you're looking for a compact camera mostly for photography, can I suggest the Sony RX100 series? The ZV1 shares many components from that line. These are better suited for photography compared to the ZV1 and even offer a viewfinder to see clearer in bright environments. You could start off with a used one for your trip if you're still wondering if it's worthy to upgrade to a digital camera. The iPhone has it's advantages over the ZV1 and similar digital cameras such as having a larger display and being extremely easy to take pics and vids. Plus you can post/share them instantly online. But it produces pics and vids with a "smartphone look" and doesn't age well. For a photo book, making prints, things you will physically hold and share with others long term, the ZV1 or RX100 series is the better choice. I hope I was able to answer your question!

@thefitlifechannel2021
@thefitlifechannel2021 Ай бұрын
Thank you! ND filters are an important tool for recording video outdoors in bright light, especially on smartphone cameras with limited or one aperture. I'm excited for the Xperia event because I want to see if the Xperia I VI will adapt the aspect ratio that has been floating around for awhile. If it does, it may become more difficult to handle as a camera but better for smartphone use. I feel the 21:9 ratio on the Xperia line makes it one of the best smartphones for handling when it comes to photography and videography, not just for watching content! I've used Sony smartphones for a long time now and they always seem to prioritize slim frames with balanced aesthetics, even if it means sacrificing some performance to avoid horrendous looking devices. Everything needs to flow and look balanced on a Sony smartphone. I think adding in a filter adapter will disrupt that, just as using the full 1.0 sensor on the Xperia PRO-I would have meant a larger lens and housing. I'm ok with it because I dislike the gaudy camera setups from companies such as Xiaomi and Oppo. Now if they could make an accessory like the filter/battery grip from the Xiaomi Ultra 13/14, that would be perfect! I know Sony can. And they know smartphones with limited apertures need an ND filter for bright scenes because of their history making cameras and lenses!

Yet, I still have the courage to go on KZfaq to present to a worldwide audience issues such as the ones in this video that have plagued Sony phones for the past decade and are still present on the Xperia PRO-I (fingerprint scanner, front cam, and overheating). You focus on how people look, I focus on providing non biased information on products that can help them make better decisions. I back up everything I point out about the Xperia PRO-I's issues with video and pic evidence in this video. It's not like I'm pulling them out of the air and trashing it. Either you didn't watch the entire video and rushed to judgement or have something personal against me. You could have commented as a mature, adult instead of lashing out like that. Don't worry, I won't delete your comment. I want everyone to see what an insecure, immature prick you are. You have to attack someone's appearance just because you disagree with issues with a smartphone MANY OTHER SOURCES AND USERS HAVE BROUGHT UP SINCE IT'S RELEASE!!! And don't attack people personally if you don't know their background or history, ESPECIALLY OVER A SMARTPHONE. Only you end up looking like an ignorant dumbass to the billions of viewers on KZfaq!!!

I got this phone as an upgrade from my pixel 4 and so far its been great. I am learning the whole camera system thing so I cannot take advantage of it just yet. My biggest issue with it so far is that it doesn't receive signal well. My pixel 4 at times will get signal in places where my sony wouldn't.

Once you've learned how the camera system works, its easier to move onto Sony's Alpha digital cameras because the quick menu is the same as theirs. Actually, I recommend the Xperia line first for those wanting to move on from a smartphone to a digital camera. And I learned to respect Sony's cameras more on their smartphones because they don't use as much processing like Google and Samsung and still can produce some really great images. You also have more room to work with when editing them in something like Adobe Lightroom or others because of minimal processing. I have noticed recently signal issues with mine as well but I have a feeling its because of the daily hot temps (may not be an issue of the PRO-I itself, but the cell towers and electrical grid being too hot and causing decreased signal strength/power). Are using it in a cool place or in a hotter area?

I appreciate your feedback! The whole point of this video was to show both positive and negative aspects of the Sony Xperia PRO-I from daily use for the past 20 months. Most reviews are only 1-4 weeks in length and they may not experience what I did. It doesn't reflect every user/owner's experience of the Xperia PRO-I, its my own. I waited almost two years so I can give my viewers the most honest, long term review on the positive and negative traits of the Xperia PRO-I. That's my duty as a reviewer, not to make videos for the purpose of getting the most views and likes. I know it may upset some viewers like yourself but hopefully you can understand why I do this. Most of the issues I brought up in this video, numerous other reviewers and users have pointed out as well. The subpar front camera, overheating and limited OS/security updates compared to its competitors, and of course the fingerprint sensor. Overheating on an Sony smartphone has been around for a very long time. When Sony decided to use a thin and narrow body and cram in hot processors, powerful cameras and inadequate cooling solutions, its gonna happen! Perhaps the one issue many will dispute are the ports but that could be due to the hot and humid environment I live in. Also, please clarify how my lifestyle destroys the phone with legitimate examples? It still works and I have found solutions to my issues. If anything, this video shows the Xperia PRO-I, despite the issues I've encountered still performs as it was intended for, a content creator's device. They're not meant to be handled as if in a thin glass case. I have recorded thousands of vid clips and pics with the Xperia PRO-I for my YTB videos and personal use in excellent & substandard conditions. The Xperia PRO-I can take a lot of heavy usage and keep on going even after 20 months of daily use. Most other devices would have bit the dust, like my Samsung Note 20 Ultra (my first content creator device) and its unusable display. No smartphone, camera, gadget etc. is perfect. They all have their issues, we find ways to work around them, and use their best traits optimally. If you watched the end of this video, I did say the Xperia PRO-I still has many positive traits and is best used as a camera centric device (which even Sony promoted). It excels giving the user the best photography/videography experience even in 2024 against "camera smartphones" like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Thank you for your recommendations! I clean my Xperia PRO-I on a weekly basis. I did try to include some closeup shots of both ports in the video to show nothing is inside of them. However the lenses for my cameras aren't great for detailed close-ups so may have been difficult to see. I believe the issue is subpar materials used for those ports. The headphone port appeared to have become worn out over time from frequently using external mics and also while vlogging with them on the move. The constant movement slowly wore them out. For the USB-C port, I have similar issues with my Sony ZVE-10 digital camera and Xperia 1iii. Over time from repeated use, they become worn out. I'm wondering if the issue could also be from these devices getting really hot, the metal from these ports expand and over time remain that way. I've noticed my Xperia PRO-I is more difficult to charge when it's hot, perhaps you saw in the video my micro studio was reaching temps up to 34°C!!!

Yes it can be really slippery on wet concrete. I found this to be an issue with Merrell's hiking and trail running shoes. I bought a pair of Nova 3's a few months ago and found them to be slippery on most wet surfaces. Worst are concrete roads and muddy areas. I plan to do a video about this because all of my Merrell hiking and trail shoes from the past 5 years have this issue.

I remember Samsung's early years in the smartphone world and I was using the Sony Z series at that time. Samsung phones felt a lot cheaper and I would comment they wouldn't last long in the industry. And those early Samsung phones copied many features from their competitors. However despite Sony coming out with features that progressed smartphones forward such as waterproofing and a larger front camera at 5mp, Samsung quickly caught up and sprinted forward. Sony started to lag behind after the Z series and regained its spark with the Xperia 1. I ended up switching to the Samsung flagship and Note Series for many years because of Sony's decline. It wasn't until the Sony Xperia 1iii I switched back. I felt it was far more superior when it came to creating content, photography and videography compared to Samsung phones. However, I feel for general smartphone usage, Samsung offers a better experience and support. The smartphone industry has been stagnant for a long time, not just Samsung. There has been some progress on the camera side but nothing significant. I feel Sony tried to take a huge leap forward with the Xperia PRO-I's 1.0 sensor from the RX100 series during the planning stages, but actually implementing it created more issues they couldn't resolve in time for a timely release. Also Sony and some review sources hyped it up way too much which made it seem worse than it really was. Unfortunately, it seems Sony has stagnated again, while other companies like Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung continue to push their camera development aggressively. Sony is playing catching up right now. However, their advantage are their photo and video apps which mimic my Sony mirrorless cameras. They allow a smoother photo and video workflow compared to Samsung or Apple. Samsung fans can be very passionate, but so can those from Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc. I wouldn't let them get to you, because there are many Samsung fans who appreciate smartphones from other companies as well. And those who have negative behavior tend to be insecure about what other smartphone companies offer. You don't need to be wasting your time on them. You have better things to focus it on!

@@thefitlifechannel2021 I disagree with part of that. SONY was the first to come out with water proofing as well as a camera on the phone. They also were the first to do 4k filming, have a histogram for photos, 120fps@4k (s24 has just recently got it whilst sony has had this since 2019)and Sony more creative modes make Samsung 's own "manual" mode seem like it's on auto. I had the fortune to take apart a seamingly dead Pro I and I found the heat issue problem. When you take apart the tin lid covering the RAM and CPU , there are. I thermal pads to conduct the heat to the sinks. I simply put a 🪆 P of thermal grizzly paste on each and brought it back to life and it largely dealt with the heat issues. The new sensor on the 1v is a complete game changer and it's BETTER than the larger pro I one, it makes it look a bit dated. I feel sony pulled out the stops with this phone -except the god awful telephoto.
@thefitlifechannel2021
@thefitlifechannel2021 2 ай бұрын
@@theSFCchannel Actually I made a mistake with my response. I apologize for that and it has been corrected. I was supposed to say that Sony was the first to come out with waterproofing and a larger 5mp camera for the front while others were still using under 2mp. However. the earlier waterproofing capabilities were exaggerated and I even had a Z3 replaced for free from Sony because of it. They changed their claims in future versions to accurately reflect what it was capable of. I've frequently mentioned in past videos the hot RX100 sensor and inadequate cooling system was the main reason for the overheating. Even on my ZV1 which uses the same sensor it becomes extremely hot recording 4k video, but because of it larger body can dissipate heat more effectively and keep running instead of shutting down like the PRO-I. Thank you for sharing your solution and hopefully more people will try it out for themselves to see if it helps them as well! I was using my PRO-I to record part two of this video and I could only do 60 second clips because it overheated so fast, even using the front camera in Video PRO! But it was 31C+ with occasional wind so it was difficult to cool it down. Based upon what I've been seeing from various reviews on the main camera for the 1 V it does seem like changes were made over it's predecessor. However, nothing significant compared to the 1.0 type cropped sensor on the PRO-I. And I see more inflated claims from Sony that it matches the quality of some of it's full frame DSLR cameras. Perhaps when viewing on social media, but for more serious photographers and videographers (whom these devices are marketed towards) that use larger displays and pro level editing software, it may show other wise. But I haven't used it in person and can't say for sure if there are dramatic improvements in imaging coming out of the new sensor on the I V.

@@thefitlifechannel2021 handles heat really well, battery is amazing and video pro is like a dream. Focus peaking is amazing as well as S cinetone. I'm now living in Malta and had no heat issues at all. The only negative is the telephoto it needs more work as it is far too soft. The main sensor is a complete game changer and it frankly is better than the larger one In the Pro I, HDR is much better. I heard even basic auto mode is .icg better , but I don't use it for a point and shoot as I would have got a Samsung if I wanted that. Overall score , I would give it a 8/10 And it's really fun to play about with and I have not had that fun since the 1 iii. The Focus peaking is really handy and now we have a handy histogram on video and not just photo. Stabilisation at 4k is amazing when set to ultra high quality but that crops in a little and limits to 30fps. Also the eye level focusing only works up to 30fps too. Only thing that lets it down is the telephoto

Hi everyone! Here's some additional tips for the Sony Shooting Grip: 1. Use Sony recommended or high quality CR2032 battery. I've used cheap ones and their quality is inconsistent. Sometimes I only get about 1-2 hours using them. With original or high quality ones, they have lasted 4-6 months. 2. The smartphone holders I used in this video are the Ulanzi ST-01 Phone Tripod Mount and Small Rig Multifunctional Smartphone Holder. Ulanzi's mount offers a low profile, is very durable and affordable. Small Rig's mount is taller (more height for sit down vlogs) and can rotate between horizontal and vertical shots. However it's not sturdy and the bracket holding the mount bends easily when its not supposed too. Also it's expensive for what it offers and is more hype than function. Small Rigs makes excellent camera cages but their accessories tend to be overpriced and of low quality. 3. To keep it clean, I use dish soap diluted in water or rubbing alcohol diluted in water (60/40). They haven't faded the finish on the shooting grip and will get rid of most germs and viruses.

You're welcome! Not a problem. If outdoors, in the sun & 30C +, within 1-2 minutes. If inside recording video with a lot of lights, usually within 5 minutes. It does best when there's a breeze to cool it down or in the shade where it can go up to 10 minutes before overheating warnings and other issues. The RX100 derived sensor for the 24mm lens is notorious for running hot in those camera bodies (my ZV1 gets hot really fast recording 4k outdoors in the sun or indoors with lights). Stick it inside a thin, metal body with the Snapdragon 888 and subpar cooling setup for them, will overheat quickly in hotter temps. I have no issues recording in 27C and below temps outdoors, but best to keep it under shady or breezy areas. You could strap a gaming fan to it as well but may be a bit bulky for recording videos and taking pics handheld.
