I heard that they are gonna offer the electric lime color on the 23 tacoma sport like the 22 trd pro has now , I haven’t seen that color in person but from what I’ve seen in videos it looks awesome , I also love how the trd pro has the imprinted logo on the rear quarters instead of decals , I’d love to see them do that with the trd sport and trd off road .

I for one am stoked about the possibility of a hybrid, depending on the size and output of the gas engine in that combination. I think a lot of the folks disliking the idea of a turbo motor are thinking turbo v6's since that is what we see a lot of today. But a V6 is already a problem to begin with, a turbo 4 is perfectly reliable. Until you try to spin that Nagasaki noisy boy up to 28 pounds of boost and send a rod into atmo.

Stick with the 3.5, because turbos always never last as long as a non turbo motor. Making them like a Tundra might not be that good with all the teething problems they’ve had already.
@BobKenge
@BobKenge 2 жыл бұрын
Yes turbos naturally is a more complex design. It would be nice if the new turbo engine, supposedly, has the same injection system as the 3.5 to assure the performance and quality of engine. Even though it has double the injectors, the engine runs cleaner.
@gh4121-b5n
@gh4121-b5n 2 жыл бұрын
@@BobKenge ...when you add extra pressure to an engine they tend not to last as long as the non turbos, plus more parts to fail, usually the turbo blade oiling system. But they’re doing it for the mileage I guess.

They’ll just overbuild them. My first Camry I ran til 365k and never replaced any accessory meaning clutch alternator starter etc. I then gave it to my mother she had it another 5-6 years she then gave it to my brother in law he had it a year or so and that’s when I lost track of it.

Things they should have done for the 3rd gen are 1) keep the US factory 2) keep 2nd gen drivetrain, add a 8 speed or 10 speed 3) Tune it with the new trans for better fuel economy. Then all you had to do with the 4th gen is add a hybrid, redesign looks.

As a heavy duty diesel tech by trade I know that duty cycle plays a massive part in turbocharger longevity and the added complexity and expense associated with having a turbocharged mid-sized truck is absolutely NOT going to be worth the incremental gains in fuel economy. When these new Rangers and 4th gen Tacomas are in the shop for turbocharger replacements the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas will still be going in for oil changes and tune ups...

My 1st gen 1995 2.7 liter is still making wine on the California Coast. I put 250,000 on it mainly in the Sierra. Running up to Giant Forest daily. Steep twisties. Lots of 2nd and 3rd gear. Never did use any oil. Sold it to my friend in 2016 when I bought a new one. I’m 66 and I’m sure my gen 3 will outlast me. Cheers. GREAT trucks.

Bought mine Tacoma new in 2015. I have 39,000 and will die with this beauty. That is of course if no one runs into it. I don't think turbo charging is a good idea for people like me who seeks longevity. Turbo puts more stress on the engine which shortens it's life. Not a good idea even for the tundras.

The worst thing they could do is make an all electric truck! The next thing is a highbred. And then the other thing that I think is going to make the Toyota Tacoma a POC will be the turbo charged four cylinder. Turbo charger just means the engine will wear out that much faster. I’m sick of everybody trying to appease the environmentalist! There is no climate change.

I agree with you, although you are wrong, it's a fact there is climate change. Science would say otherwise. Appeasing the environmentalist extreme libtards is not my agenda, so it'll be sad to see the V6 leave and turbo 4 bangers and EVs enter..

The setup shown isn’t a coil over being as coilover is spring over shock.. and to offer an answer regarding off road performance, they will definitely perform far better than the leaf packs that come on Toyotas. Lots of full size rigs have spring perch type deals with the shock off to the side and I’ve never noticed any negative aspects to it for off road. My neighbor has a 97 Dodge on 46” Super Swamper SX2s and he runs Rockwell 2.5 ton axles with that exact style setup.. Huge spring in a bucket and then huge shocks off to the side and his rig works phenomenally. Anecdotal for sure, but just noting that I’ve seen plenty of vehicles with that setup do very well off-road

Yea you're right, this dude has no idea what a "coil over" actually is and this is the same platform that the land cruiser is on and will perform MUCH better offroad, especially since like the new tundra it'll finally be back on a FULLY BOXED FRAME. about damn time haha

I’m on the fence with the Tacoma trd pro, I’d love to buy a truck that I don’t have to modify, so if I buy a trd pro I already need larger tires like 285-70-17” then I’d need to do the gears$$ it’s already too expensive, let’s not forgive that, then a front selectable locker,$$$ then a front bumper and rock sliders… since the front suspension has limited wheel travel I’d add that long travel kit into it$$ the fox shocks can’t be used either with that kit$$ things are adding up, let’s not forget how bad on fuel this is too, burns as much as a half ton, but if I get the gladiator rubicon with the diesel I don’t have to do anything , it comes with two lockers, stock 285-70-17” tires, two solid axles with lots of suspension travel, the downfalls of the gladiator is the infamous quality/reliability…the cost is even more outrageous , and it only Carrie’s 800 lbs, about the same as a Honda Civic… how pathetic, even the endemic Honda Ridgeline Carrie’s about 1500. Lbs about double the weight, we just can’t win, I’d be happy with less electronic gadgets and two selectable lockers, a small diesel… two solid axles, 33” tires stock, im a big fan of overlanding.

4 banger in a truck... Don't care if it produces little more hp and torque. Don't care if it's reliable. It's a truck and I use it as such. A refined 3.5 V6 with a new 10speed transmission, that's it! Aluminum body panels will shred a couple hundred pounds. Electric steering. Can easily reach the required new emission regulations. If it's a turbo 4 banger civic engine, I'm sticking with my gen3 or moving on to Ford

Well Nissan Frontier here I come with its 3.8 ltrs....dam dam dam I'm so dissapointed. Despite loving my 2020 TRD Sport 4X4 to death I will trade it in for a Hybrid Tacoma 4X4 after a few years of Toyota working any bugs out. Be awesome to have a possible 40 MPG Taco. I had owned a brand new 1992 Extra-cab V6 5spd 4X4 Toyota Truck for 14 happy years. Love these trucks. Really enjoy your content here and your input over at the mighty TW.

Auto transmission problems? Gear constantly changing to optimize RPM and gas mileage? Itd be just insane if there were an option to control the gear yourself… Keep buying automatic trucks and find out what happens. You failed to send a message to Toyota by purchasing their crap automatic transmissions. If you don’t buy manual, they won’t make manual.

They'll most likely ditch the NA V6 motor to some kind of Turbo 4...which IMHO would be fine as the 3rd gen is rather weezy as it is. Im sure they'll take Tundra queues like the headlight design and taillight looks. Compared to the segment the Colorado Ranger and Canyon are being changed in a year or so..Toyota has to up their game.

Looks good, but if the Taco gets rid of the V6 like Tundra did the V8, I’ll be extremely upset. Love my 2013 TRD, and would hate to up(down)grade to a 4 banger… even if it is turbocharged 🤨

I also think the new Taco will be more aerodynamic and carry the improvements that Tundra has such as: 1) Rear bumper design 2) Rear view mirrors 3) Skinnier tires than older model 4) Improved composite bed with less pockets 😆 5) Some aluminum panels 6) Reduction NVH 7) 2 mph gas improvement with i4 turbo with much better torque figures 8) Even heavier than before 9) Electric Power Steering 10) $1,5k higher price across trims + more cameras and mics for free because why not...

Took 4 generations for them to discover horsepower… and they’re expected to possible have it by 2025 😂 I’ve always looked past Tacomas due to the poor engine choices. They’re always behind the curve in terms of technology and power. But I guess that adds to the reliability.
