One of the biggest mistakes I see that I used to do is trying to make your lines as clean as possible and sort of shaping your letters around that. But that’s kinda counterproductive, you should worry about practicing the structure first and worry about cleanliness later. The clean lines will come with practice

@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock 4 жыл бұрын
Flow problems are a result of adding too much style, basic straight letters flow automatically withough you having to do anything so if you're having problems it's because you're adding too much style. In this case keep it simple and work on basic print fonts with 0 style. style will only make learning harder and make it take multiple times longer to get better at graffiti

How can I make my own throwie style
@francisbaxter4663
@francisbaxter4663 2 жыл бұрын
Learn other peoples style and copy as many different letters as you can, eventually you’ll create your own, don’t be afraid to copy. A lot of artist from nyc are giving there tag be an established artist. Many are not as original as they seem. They are literally copying what another artist drew for them. A popular example would be cope2 getting his tag from cap, that is a common process. Not that all graffiti artist do this, but usually the people that were getting up, and established in the whole scene came from a lineage of writers.

My best tip I can give is to just bite letters in the beginning, I know, no one wants to do it, all artist want to be original, but I wasted a lot of time trying to be overly original without actually succeeding at it. In fact when I started getting up I was confused as a new tag for another writer who I admired and I guess I subconsciously stole his style. I guess this writer had beef. Regardless don’t be afraid to copy it will get you to where you want to be faster. Just think of it like tattooing those post traditional alt traditional artist didn’t just create that line work, it was burned into their minds from non stop tracing. Eventually they went off on there own, with there own original style or twist.

there is no mistakes in graffiti just sayn its art and art has no rules
@Theartistblock
@Theartistblock 3 жыл бұрын
art for sure has rules and you can factually make mistakes in graffiti. If you write for example Yety and you spell it VETY then you made a mistake. Letter structure is a core fundamental and with that you get negative space management and weight instantly. thats not even including the other fundamentals or elements of art. If art had no rules then everyone would be Leonardo da Vinci but that cl the case. Anyone would be able to be a tattoo artist but once again, not the case, anyone could draw comic books but once again, not the case, why? because not everyone understands the rules to art.
@V0lny
@V0lny 3 жыл бұрын
@@Theartistblock So youre kind of saing that for example antistyle is a mistake? And the example with "then everyone could be a tatto artist" is not very good because in case of tattoos someone wants a motive for example a snake and in graffiti nobody really says you what to do. Im still folloing these "rules of graffiti" because i just stick to the whole style thing.
@100354
@100354 2 жыл бұрын
@@V0lny Anti-style is not a mistake, but an excuse 99% of the time. People that have a completely different and far out style, that still looks dope, have to know the rules of art far better than those with more mainstream style. In other words, what looks like shit is not anti-style, it's just what it looks like - shit. So you can start throwing literal crap at a wall and I guarantee you, it will look better than what most "anti-styles" wannabe stuff. Probably not what you wanted to hear, also you are right about something. Nobody will tell you what to do. But whether your stuff will get recognition, respect or even just look nice to someone, with the slightest bit of feeling, will all have to do with knowing the rules and much later, a way in which they can be broken. If you want to see a 'weird' style, search for Kans handstyle on KZfaq. The final product is completely out of the norm, but the man knows damn well what he is doing, while most people calling their 'style' anti-style do not. There is a writer in my city telling everyone he has been doing graffiti since '84 and that he is doing anti-style. I don't know him personally, but even if the '84 thing is true, he and his "crew" are STILL a bunch of toys hiding under the pretense of anti-style. Nobody is telling him what to do. The saddest part is, if his claims are true, soon 40 years will pass and no graffiti artist worth his salt respects him in any way and that fact will not change, until the day he dies or stops writing. But that is completely fine with me. The guy can't do a decent throw and demands some kind of recognition? Maybe from some noob that has been doing this for a month or 3 of his best buddies that wouldn't know the difference between The Raft of the Medusa and a turd if it hit them in the face. Enough ranting. Go watch the video, I told you about and make sure to also check the comments. Funny how "hardcore bomber" toys go crazy, when someone is better than them. To stay on-topic, I personally hate it when jackasses pull off a shitty toy throw, then make a cloud (why?) that crosses my throw/handstyle. Also,
