Another reason you do throwups rounded is because its much more error tolerant than straight letters. Errors show up in straight lettering much more than rounded, just doing some corners sharp and some round will make it look wrong and sharp corners are hard to do fast but often required to make it look good. And some of us know some of the science, I figured out a bunch of it when I was young by creating two piles of graff (good/bad) and spent ages figuring out why one was good and the other bad and came up with a bunch of rules.....I use to say I more design graff than draw it. Then years later I use to sneak into lectures at some University and sat in on a DTP course and learnt the names for alot of my rules, like white space. And while Im here, love you channel. Havent done graff in over 20 years and want to relearn how to design pieces. Your videos are fantastic to get the fundementals driven back into my brain, over and over.

This was so spot on. Im cracking up. Graffiti is a culture that takes years of practice and learning to get good at and understand. Funny to see sites making “tutorials” like its a copy-paste concept. My advice to someone getting into graffiti is do research, develop your own style through trial and error and practice, practice, practice. Its going to take years to develop a style that is aesthetically pleasing to you or anyone else. And if you are doing graffiti illegally, you better make sure you follow the rules of the culture cause that shit is not a game. Ive known people who have gotten jumped and robbed for paint, shot at, etc.

A good way to learn is to take pictures of tags/throwups/peices around your town and mimic those. Pay attention to things like angles, size and how each letter copies or relates to eachother

The best rule for a graffiti artist is... there are no rules. That's what's great about it. If you're a natural artist, stuff like filling in negative space, or leaving it there for aesthetics, it won't matter. You'll find ways to make great art. I've never watched a tutorial that helped me with anything big. Sure, I've taken advice over the years, art school helped, but really, the only way to be a good artist is to 1, have at least some natural skill. 2, love it. And, 3, do a lot of it. I hate what LA hipsters have done to graffiti. Sure, there are things like tags and throw-ups. But, really, the best way to get great graffiti is to let your mind puke all over your "canvas". I can't stand the naming of a style because it's putting your art form in a box. Wildstyle is a perfect name for a lot of what's being put up right now but it shouldn't need a name. Then you have the "semi-wildstyle" and "Old School" and so on, but really, like I said, just let your mind puke. That's the best way I can put it. I don't visualize anything. I start drawing and what comes out of it.... is what it is. I do the same thing with my other art. Also, no offense, but if you're doing it digitally, in my opinion, it loses it's.... I don't know... impressiveness? I guess that's the word I was looking for. Just because it doesn't take the same skills. You can't throw out a wall or delete a page in your sketchbook. It's still cool. Just not as cool. Sorry, I dig your stuff though. Keep up the good work. These are just my opinions.

I think the bast way to learn graffiti is to try in out on a piece of paper. When you have fun yuo can look at some well done pieces from better artist and get some inspiration. But you also have to practise your own style always. If you don´t you can´t get any better. By the way, getting inspiration from better artists doesn´t mean to copy their pieces.

You have taught me alot about graffiti. Maybe some tutorials like hands on to have the audience actually follow in making a piece. It would be great practice. I mean you can go all out and show it step by step. It would be a long video but people could pause and follow your instruction. That how i learn things the best. Shown by example. You could explain negative space line weight placement. Then let people send you their work and you can grade them or critique them. Im not telling you what to do in any sense. Keep up the great work.
