2 total conversion mods that I used to love playing was crisis of the confederation which was a fantastic space-feudalism mod and Four Nations, which was set in the world of the last air bender and introduced a lot of cool bending mechanics. I think four nations is still in development however COTC hasn’t been worked on in years

When the World Stopped Making Sense. It might not qualify since it uses the vanilla Europe map, but being able to save the Roman Empire from the brink or play in the ashes left by it's fall is great.

@@MeneltirFalmaro post western roman empire alternate history series in countryballs by rat of mapping Syagrius or rather one of his descendants, becomes emperor, then towards the end he becomes demigod (Syagrius survives the Frankish invasion *and* conquers them) (Syagrius also hates all germanic people)

A word of warning to people looking to play the Game of Thrones mod: Sometimes, the game will become so corrupted after a certain date that it will crash at the end of every year. You can still keep playing by saving before a new year and edit the save to move your game one year forward, but you have to do this every year which gets tedious really fast. Not everyone will get this bug, but a lot of people do.

Ive heard sometimes the bug go away but tbh the editing the save game again and again just makes you give up on the save. Almost all of my saves crash near the 200th year and I have tried the mod on multiple pcs :/

There are a lot of checks, scripts and maintenance events that are triggered at the start of a new year. One of them might become corrupted or there are simply so many characters on the map that it crashes the game. Moving the date manually sounds like a workaround, but I can't help but wonder how well the game progresses without its yearly maintenance events.

John Smith I believe there is a mod that gets rid of some of the eastern lands completely I’d maybe try that if you haven’t and see if it stops crashing due to a lot of irrelevant characters getting taken out. I haven’t experienced any corruption so idk if it’s a viable choice but worth a try.

Avatar mod crashes frequently on latest ck2 versions. I'd advise staying away from it, or rolling back to an earlier version.

Dude the AGOT mos is incredible- it's literally the best way to play ck2 in my opinion as it utilizes many of the games systems far better than vanilla or any other mod. It has some truly fantastic sub mods as well.

I agree, sometimes I wish I could play the GOT mod with the vanilla Europe map lmao ESPECIALLY what they have done with holdings, having some holdings which are stronger than others on a 1-6 level makes the world feel unique and dynamic.

Yeah, IF the ck3 version is actually stable. As great as the GoT mod is, eventually it just gets too frustrating having to start over due to the crashing issue it's had for years now. I come back to ck2 GoT every now and then (probably every few years), play probably about a week of it and then give up.

As a huge fan of Sapkowskys works i really like witcher kings but it lacks a lot of the things that made the world of the witcher into the funny and beautiful thing that it is. But i think Sapkowkis story simply doesn’t work in grand strategy like George Martins.

I think that might be because of what their works focus on. ASoIaF focuses on a broad range of characters who are entrenched within and pivotal to the political landscape of their setting, whereas the Witcher focuses on a group of characters who usually have personal rather than political goals and who actively (try to) avoid the clusterfuck of politics. Martin's work is more of a bird's eye view of the world he's portraying, while Sapkowski shows us what his world looks like from the ground level.

it would be nice to see a conversion mod for one of the civil war of Japan like the "Genpei War" would be very cool to play as one of the clans to then take over the shogunate. I think I will give the Game of Thrones mod a playthrough at some point, but for now, I am having to much fun with the new bookmark iron century start date. Currently playing as Germany/ Holy roman emperor for the first time and im loving the swallowing of smaller nations, I plan on a conquest to take out the caliph in Spain.

I mean, you could always play Shogun. It is just a worse CK2 in many ways, but I don’t think anyone wants to take the arduous and painstaking journey to mod into creation a game that already exists.

As mentioned before there is NMIH on the paradox forums that features the war, plus the rebellion that preceded along with the rest of the time before and during the Sengoku Jidai. A future update in the works will allow playing landless ronin, even.

I once succeeded to recreate an Atmoran Atmora by playing a little tribal leader, I accepted to be dominated by the undead, and by this time I fought its subjects and gained territory, quite soon, I retook Atmora and recreated the Empire

Interesting, I still think the Warcraft one has the potential to be the best. It's the only one of the mods that actually put new art assets into the game and represents the cities and armies with unique 3D models that appear just like it does in the lore. It just needs a bit more time to finish some of the other races to be of a similar standard.

12:00: I'd argue that the earlier start dates are effectively spoiler-free. This isn't one of those mods where a big reveal centers around a war that took place a thousand years ago or something; if you play as Aegon the Conqueror or fight in the Dance of the Dragons, or _especially_ if you go to Essos and play the Kingdom of Three Daughters or Khal Temmo or something, you're not going to learn much about the War of the Five Kings. (Though those early start dates obviously don't have as many intricate character-specific event chains.)

Geheimnisnacht submods allow you to turn off various map regions (old world/new world/UnderEmpire) to improve performance. Not always as fun and cool then tho

I know what you mean. Right now I've got a game where I had a pretty successful version of William the Conqueror - then when he died I realised I'd forgotten to make his son into a decent ruler. Wroth, Cruel, and 0 Stewardship...yeah, this isn't going to go well.

@@charliethemagpie523 you fix that by marrying someone with a very high sterwardship (regardless of her status), and then bringing in someone to you kingdom with the highest stewardship you can find that will join your court (bribe if necessary), sway your new steward make sure all the rest of your powerful vassals are on your council even if they are terrible, set your chancellor to "improve relations" and then pick rulership and carousing. Join one of the holy orders as soon as possible to get rid of vices and gain virtues (if Christian). Quickly marry any kids you have to the biggest vassals you have that you can. You'll have a nice friendly stable kingdom in no time.

Hmm, i pulled off the Reconquista, inherited the entirety of Aquitaine and conquered chunks of France, England and Norway. All that in my first playtrough, right after the tutorial lets you free, with the small kingdom of León. Btw, i also went trough literally the first World War, when the almost non existant remnants of the guys in North Africa that had territories south of Spain declared me a holy war, and most of the western world joined me against a huge portion of Asia.

I had the same issues with the GOT mod as you described with the TES mod. To me, mod developers just try to stuff too much content into their mods without a proper focus. This leaves some content completely overdesigned and most other content almost entirely barren. This _hugely_ puts me off to play the mods, because there is so much content that isn't worth playing...

A mod that is worthy of being a total conversion, but from a historical accuracy point of view, is RIRSEI (Rex In Regno Suo Est Imperator). This mod (which requires Legacy of Rome to appreciate all the mechanisms) is based on an in-depth and comprehensive rework on the mechanisms in the Christian and Muslim world. The mod's desire is to significantly increase the historicity of the base game, while deepening uchronistic options whose intentions and ideas are anchored in historical reality. This mod is therefore recommended for lovers of historicity, and for those looking for hard challenges to complete, especially at the end of the game. Its creator has also updated it with the latest version of CK2.

Honorary Mention to the Middle Earth Mod (not supported) which remains the biggest and I think only CK2 conversion mod based on Tolkien. It only has one bookmark and a pretty basic storyline that ends within two years of game time. It's fun to toy around in, but nothing super impressive to do beyond that. It's admirable, but imagine what could've been...

I love GoT and its books a lot, and whilst I think it's just the perfect fantasy universe for a CK2 conversion compared to Elder Scrolls, Warhammer, Warcraft, Witcher or anything else, I'll agree that I've had more fun with Elder Kings so far, which is surprising cause I'm a bigger fan of say Warhammer or Warcraft universe and games. I think the reason is that Elder Scrolls universe is a very down to earth fantasy world, which is more fantasy than GoT but not as high fantasy as Warcraft or crazy as Warhammer, it lends itself well with CK2 by differing itself enough from vanilla but not so much it loses its charm of family/empire building/RP. Elder Scrolls universe is very evened out as well between all the races and such, it's more open for interpretation with "good and evil" without touching on grimdark, as well as the world is very driven by mortals, which has been proven in its own history that it's mortals that reaches godly levels. Even then you got tons of Daedric Princes to align with who are rather inactive if it weren't for said mortals. They did well in creating Elder Kings that way and there's just a lot of routes to play it with pretty well fleshed out fantasy races and ways to go about things.

@@prinstyrio0 Elder Kings runs fairly fast even late game playing as huge empires. Its by far the best optimized total conversion mod imho and I tried every single one. The only one that runs faster is FE, but thats because its very bare bones.

I agree with you.The ROTK mod is the only thing that prevents me from raging when I learned that I can't play as China in the Jade Dragon DLC.It's one of my favorites alongside the GOT and The Winter King mod

@@rezandrarizkyirianto-1933 well more like an expansion of vanilla to add china, a bit of sub saharan africa, the rest of modern day russia, and the entire far east. I tried it once and while it was kind of interesting how much stuff was going on and how different it was, it was an absolute mess. I mean goddamn there's a new religion every two blocks. There's like 50 building types per holding, no realm is larger than a duchy.

orangesilver8 but that is all by design you have to remember the reason every power is small is so you can just jump in an steam roll tho I get that as that was my initial reaction back in the day.. the religions is also because Rome was littered with various cults that had died out in our timeline but remained in lux’s maybe I’m just a nerd but restoring Brittania as a zalmoxis worshiping pendragon or restoring the Sassinid empire or Alexander’s Ptolemy or even Sparta and its flavor is all really appealing to me

Good video, I knew about the top two ranked Mods and enjoy both. I might give one or two of the other three that were mentioned a try. On the downside, four commercial breaks in a video that is just under 13 minutes with two commercials per break is ridiculous. This is probably the last video I'll watch by the content creator. I fully support people getting paid for their time, but this is overkill.
