I agree with you about Milk Glass. I almost never buy it because I can never tell if it's a reproduction or not; but, one day at the flea market I found a small compote which was so attractive and dainty that I didn't care what it was or what it was worth. I bought it and it turned out to be a pattern called "Ring and Swan" made in the 1880s. It's on my kitchen clock shelf right now.

Thank you! This video is so helpful. I'm a glass collector and I laughed when you said milk glass doesn't sell, as I collect milk glass. I collect it because I love it - so I'm in luck! I also collect Pyrex and you didn't mention Pyrex. It seems very valuable these days, unlike when I was younger and found it everywhere a dime a dozen.

You are in luck. It does not sell for me either, with one exception. The large square pedestal cake boxes with hand painted pink flowers. The rest can sit for months on ebay with not one bid. It is the sparkly color of glass that I like, which milk glass does not have, that veers me away from it. It may as well be plastic. Light doesn't pass through it, etc. It does none of the things I love clear glass for, so much.

Thank you i for the lesson in antique and vintage glass! You are very knowledgeable and i am enjoying your videos. I have a few pieces of both depression glass and carnival glass which belonged to my grandmother and some to my great aunt. I have been interested in adding to what I have, but one piece has a pattern I can’t seem to find anywhere so far. I have purchased a handbook that has great history and lots of glass designs and patterns; I have watched tons of videos lately but no one seems to show or talk about the particular pattern I have; and I have been on the lookout for the last 20 years or so for another piece of same pattern. I am seriously beginning to think it must be pretty rare, considering I see lots of so many other patterns. The pattern appears to be either cats, or more likely mice, around the inside of a small round dish since they are sitting on what looks like blocks 5:03 of cheese. The prince is a carnival glass I am fairly certain, and it is only about 4” around with folds around the edge. I love the the design and would like to see what other pieces i this pattern would be.

I have collected Fenton Art Glass for over thirty years. Since the closing of the factory the value has definitely increased. I try to be selective in what I collect, attempting to locate pieces that are in the book of rarities or the rarest piece or color of a set or a OOAK made by one of the renowned glass blowers. I also collect some Northwood Art Glass as I do find the quality comparable to Fenton Glass. I was very glad to see Fenton #2 on your list.

The iridescent, decorative glassware produced primarily from 1908-1918 by the glass firms of Northwood, Fenton, Dugan, Millersburg, and Imperial was marketed to the American middle class family (namely the housewife. The glass was offered for sale at various department stores, china and glass shops, and by mail order from Sears and Montgomery Ward. Only in much later years, after it’s popularity began to wane and sales slowed, was much of the remaining inventory sold very cheaply to carnivals and fairs to be given as prizes in games of chance. Carnival glass, as it has come to be called, was one of the most popular and successful types of glassware ever made in America. There’s a novel idea-Made In America! It was the last mass produced, hand shaped glass made in this country. By the time iridescent glass fell out of favor with the American housewife, new machinery and production techniques replaced hand shaping by the glass worker. Fun fact: a very rare Northwood carnival glass punch set recently sold at auction for $175,000.00. The set is called “Acorn Burrs” and what makes this particular 8 piece punch set ultra rare is the color-aqua opalescent. The color was produced almost exclusively by H. Northwood & Co., Wheeling, West Virginia. Cheers! I

@@66uniqueantiques and many thanks to you for this video on these important lines of American glassware. At the end of my carnival glass wall unit, I made the last section a display of glass objects in various colors we now call Depression glass. One is lost in thought as to the socioeconomic forces in play as one sees such a dramatic shift in design from the decorative and colorful carnival glass of the 1910s and the later, much plainer, non-iridized glass of the 1920s. Cheers mate

I'm having trouble telling the difference between some of the higher end art glass like Morano etc. and what the Chinese are producing. I recently bought a beautiful art glass 🦜 thinking it was Morano, I got it home did a little more research and it's probably Chinese.
