Wow…. Last summer I took my dog tent camping twice. I started to do my research, with no feedback from others, but just spent a weekend looking, looking , looking and looking on line at sites, with some “musts” as part of my criteria. Beginning with, obviously, beauty, needed to be dog friendly, have a river or lake, electricity, Wi-Fi would be great, but not necessary, and narrowed it down to…..drum roll…. Holly River and Beach Fork!!! I was so incredibly pleased! I’m not originally from West Virginia although I live here now. And this evening I started my search again for some camping late this summer or early fall, and after your video I’m having a hard time considering going anywhere else! 😊 I feel a little giddy about the fact that my search proved successful and had I seen your video last year, it wouldn’t have taken me an entire weekend to figure out where I wanna spend two weekends. But thank you so much, figuring it out this year is going to be so much easier! Now….. if you were to review specific sites, help me narrow down some options that would be awesome. But until then, I guess I will just need to experiment. 😁

WV has the very, very best cabins I have ever stayed in. They are top-notch. I love coming from PA to stay at your lovely state parks. :)

People may not want to hear it but New York has a great park system. Unfathomable acreage in the Adirondacks alone (as big as vermont, can fit 4 of the biggest national parks inside). Not every single park is perfect but among them you can find shangrila for true campers. I love me some west virginia, will be visiting your recomendations this summer and will check back!

Some many great memories at Holly River State Park. I used to love the Friday night square dance and the Saturday night softball games but there was always something to do there. It's funny you posted the picture of site 85. That was my dad's favorite spot and we stayed there every time until one week it was taken and we tried site 49 and that became our new favorite. I remember one night at #85 waking up to my dad with his sleeping bag and blanket wrapped around his arm at the entrance of the tent as there was a pack of wild dogs scavenging our site. Luckily they moved on shortly after but needless to say, I did not sleep the rest of the night.

The only WV state park we’ve camped at was Coopers Rock, which we really enjoyed! Looking forward to doing some more camping in West Virginia next year. I definitely want to check out Holly River!

I would agree for the most part on your rankings, however for me Stonewall Resort State Park would have to be in the top 5. I know it's a little pricey, but offers tons of activities and dining options as well as close to other sites with limited travel time.

Agree with you on Camp Creek and Holly River.

Seems like everyones knowledgeable on the subject. Im from Ga live in ohio and looking for a good old fashioned campsite on a dirtroad wma or natl forest or off the beaten path site ??? No gravel tent sites or state parks.

Did you get rid of your Anderson hitch. We started noticing the same issues with towing out 25ft Rock Wood trailer. Swaying and bouncing. We’re trying to figure out what we need to do to make it better.

Why not black water campground? I was thinking of going there.
@dwellbig5 ай бұрын
In short that area of the state is great, however in a reasonable proximity I believe there are much better options for campgrounds such as Canaan. The campground at blackwater is poorly designed to say the least, it doesn’t have much beauty or redeeming qualities, and it attracts a lot of first time campers or campers who otherwise don’t know or care about etiquette. The state park itself is great, lodge is nice…but the campground itself is seriously lacking much appeal compared to others in that area of the state. I would rather stay at Canaan and drive to the blackwater park, or even the Seneca rocks (shadows) campground and then drive to blackwater. Just my two cents. Happy camping!

I did, sorry this wasn’t in a tik tok type format and therefore was too much information for your intelligence/attention span to handle. If you are not interested in the details, you probably shouldn’t be camping anyway.

No need to bully a woman. Just learn to speak without saying ahhhh and um all the time makes you very unintelligent.
