V5: im 72 years old and just learned on the V5 InMotion wheel ($550/Amazon). My plan, from start, was to not buy a "real wheel 🙂" until i got good enough to ride switch (backwards) on this wheel indefinitely and w confidence doing repeated direction changes. After 4 weeks i am there finally. I can carve the V5 wheel like i can deep carve my snowboard. My next wheel is the S18 Molicel or the V11. The poor V5 though 😁. I armored it up w pipe insulation to learn advanced moves on it. God knows u dont want to put yur permanent wheel through THAT abuse. And NO WAY is anyone gonna learn on my new wheel . I will point them to the tortured V5 in the garage corner. When they can ride switch on it then they can ride my V11/S18 Molicel 😃!! Ken, on the Hudson River (( Yeah, i hav a Ktm 300 too ))

That was an excellent informative video Adam. I could not agree more with you in the first five minutes, you said it all. Sure, it is possible to learn on any wheel, including a V13, a Patton or a Master, but you would be making life hard and frustrating and expensive for yourself.. Also, I think that learning to ride a light weight, nimble, manoeuvrable wheels take a certain sensitivity that will always serve the rider well on any future wheel. Going fast in a straight line on a big mega wheel is easy, they get more stable the faster you go…until they are so stable you can hardly steer the thing! Learning a more nuanced and subtle way of riding, and riding real,y slowly in confined spaces, turning tightly etc are all essential skills we should have. None of us should allow our ego to take us beyond out acquired skill level. Sure you can ride without falling off after a day or two…but you can’t really ride until it becomes intuitive…and that take a few thousand kilometres.

exactly. Riding in city you dont need more. I was also thinking of buying a V11 or then V12 but given all the problems with new wheels I will stick with what really works. There are few things I really dont like (finicky tire change, power off by single tap) but in general it is good. Only thing that I am now really missing and probably will come into standard is the suspension. However v11 is just too big with its own set of problems.

Finally! Love you Adam for stating larger wheels are easier to ride on. All these other EUC channels keep advertising that the smaller wheels like mten3, mte4 and so forth are beginner wheels...just because they are more affordable? I started off on a small wheel and put it in the closet. When I got all my larger 16+ inch wheels I was able to ride like it was nothing. Smaller wheels have made me a better rider and now I prefer the feel of the smaller wheel for its nimbleness, torque and weight when doing inner city commuting. I am loving my MCM5v2 for this, unfortunately I pin the max speed constantly. My dream city wheel is a 14 inch 35mph+ wheel with hard hydraulic suspension and high torque. Sharp corners and curb drops all day baby. I don't understand why all these new smaller wheels like the A2 have worse specs than the MCM5v2. I would get the A2 if it had the same specs with suspension. Quick question..was the MCM5v2 considered for this list?

@patriziocapo
@patriziocapo 11 ай бұрын
@@heymelonas far as I know the BMS is able to balance the cells by a small amount at the end of a full charge therefore it is important to periodically full charge the wheel until the charger's led become green. The BMS has very little SMD resistors to bleed excess energy therefore, if the battery goes out of balance, it won't be able to balance it in a single charge. It's important to monitor the max battery voltage at the end of charge and, if it drops below the usual value, fully charge the battery again the next time.

I have my V8F for almost one year and half by now, it was my second wheel, which I actually bought for my wife to teach her riding, but she didn't want to touch it ("you are an old fool and will end up breaking your neck"), so I ended up riding it myself. It served me well all this time, and it is still going strong, albeit it got over a thousand km on it, I am riding it in the evenings when I come from work too tired to wrestle with a bigger wheel, and I took it to the office sometimes and kept it there for a week or two every time, riding it inside (large offices and long corridors in the building, colleagues are saying "look, the old farang got crazy"😄. Few colleagues learned to ride on it (one guy in 5 minutes, he just went on the wheel and could ride quite fast! it took me days to learn how to keep on top of my first wheel, a RS HT). On V8F later I learned to ride backwards, and to ride left-leg only, as I didn't "dare" to try that on the heavier RS (riding right-leg-only was never a problem, my right led is the stronger leg and I learned it first week/month on my RS, but my left leg seems to be a lot more stupid than I was thinking and won't ride by himself haha). Once I learned "tricks" on V8F, I transferred them to RS, and later to other wheels, including my last acquisition, a Master Pro (still own all 3 wheels). Now, to stay on theme, one thing you didn't mention about the V8F is the fact that the front light sucks, in the sense that is mainly pointing "to the sky", i.e. you do not see the street almost at all, but you are blinding everybody coming towards you. (edit: in spite of the thing that the wheel is set 3 degrees front, i.e. "nose-down" as I like the pedals a bit inclined). First thing I printed for this toy was a holder for another front light which I bought from Aliexpress and it is better. Actually, I lie, the first ting I printed was a stand, and the second a kickstand that comes over the default kickstand (yes, V8F has a kickstand, but it is too narrow, and you have to be very careful not to tumble the wheel when you set it down, so I just printed a few cm wider one, which I mounted on top of the default one, both front and back, the one n the back I made it taller and added a reflective tape to it too). I even printed a light-shade for the front light, mainly after getting complaints from the neighbors, as they were walking in the neighborhood when I was riding, and I was blinding them, but the light shade was not good, it was obstructing the light instead of redirecting it forward. So, I bought another light and printed a "claw" for it. This new light is a bit of overkill for the V8F, but now everybody is happy, me, my wheel, and my neighbors too 😃

It's not been unrealistic to find Shermans and Shermaxes on the US second-hand market for the mid-low 2k mark. You would forgo a warranty of course but definitely something that makes it more accessible. Then again, many of the 2k-ish wheels have been going for the low 1k's too, which is also something to consider for anyone getting into the hobby.

Adam does something very wise in this video that I think many people miss. It's that he determines his OWN safe max speed for different wheel models. Do not trust any manufacturer to know how fast you can go. They don't know anything about you. It could have been tested with a 50kg rider with a tail wind for all we know. There is a way to determine how fast you can go and it's based on your weight and the free pickup speed of the motor on a full charge. Riding style, terrain, wind conditions also plays a part.

so on the v11 there is something you failed to mention. the negative air chamber up top behind the pads for your calves. hard to see but those lil red caps are valve stem caps. i set mine at 80 while my positve load chamber is 145. like butter on trails and bumps. it helped alot with my speed wobbling issue. i love the tunability of the machine in the inmotion app. i have my pedal hardness slammed to 0. ride style set to fancy and offroad setting on which gives me a max speed of 35mph. and with 0 pedal hardness it will stop and go on a dime. ive had this thing 4 days and put 86 miles on it. ripping literally everywhere.

As a v8f owner for 4 years I had no problems so far other than the ocasional scratch on the cover the only thing I don't like is the handle situation that switch under the hilt can turn off by the slightest hand movement while carrying and it starts spinning. Ride wise I never had issues (I live in Austria and I am 6'4 and weigh 96-100 kilos) so yeah it can handle the weight and incline but you do notice slight performance drop if you go above 100 kilos but it still works well all things considered.

V8F and I assume V8S made on or after August 2022 have stronger axles, but still may not be enough to handle dropping off curbs. 18L (not 18XL) isn't that much heavier than V10F, both have 2.5 inch wide tires, both use 20S4P pack, fuses: 18L - 60 amps (2 x 30 amps), V10F - 40 amps (probably main board limit), so 18L should have more peak power. As for V8F BMS, it can't be traditional passive cell balancing since the resistors are 1K ohm, which translates into a max of 4.2 mA discharge, with the stock charger at 200+ mA at that point, not enough difference (195.8 mA versus 200 mA) to prevent a cell pair from reaching overvoltage during a charge which causes the V8F to shut down charging. However, if left on the stock charger, after shutting off charging due to overvoltage of a cell pair, the V8F will continue to stay awake and slowly drain voltage for about 8 hours until it gets down to about 82.5 volts before it reenables charging. I have no idea if there is any balancing going on during this slow discharge. Riders at forums have reported a range of 4.15 to 4.20 volts per cell pair and in one case much worse when checking V8F battery packs.

I think depending on what ppl expect to use the euc for I would not start on the smallest wheels just to get the hang of it, you can grow into a wheel the same way you can with a bike etc. Handling weight comes natural with a slow approach, I would agree on easier learning just due to weight and maybe pedal hight Me and friends decided to start big after trying a small wheel at a local store and no one regrets it additionally to not have to upgrade and spend even more with these over the top prices

I've been riding v8 for almost 5 years now. I’ve ridden it for about 7k km. I use it all the time and it's amazing. It's still super reliable for city riding, even in rain. It can handle snow no problem, but I’ve stopped riding it in the snow, because there can be a thin layer of ice beneath and that has caused me to fall a couple of times. I live in Belgrade, a very hilly city. There isn’t a hill I can’t climb which is one of the reasons I’ve opted for this stronger wheel compared to inmotion 5f. Now my v8 is on the heavier side. It has almost 14kg which is very heavy. It isn’t nearly as heavy as most other wheels on this videos list. I find those weights unusable. If you’re very strong, you may not have that problem, but I’ve hurt my right arm lifting my v8. In the first 6 months of riding it, I’ve hurt both my dominant leg and my dominant arm. The weight is very high for both. It took me another 6 months of very sparse riding and almost no lifting to heal my arm and leg. I am or was very inactive prior to getting the wheel. Part of the reason I got it, aside from hating cars and buses, is to move more and leave house more. I’m very tall and fairly skinny guy at 6.4” or 193cm and 83kg. I easily get over 15km of riding before going below 50% on battery, even now, almost 5 years later. I have noticed a drop in distance I can travel on a single charge, but it's still way more than I need in any one ride. I normally charge it couple of times a week. It fell a bunch of times and is still looking almost as good as new. But I have been taking good care of it. I really don’t understand the need for spikes or any other extravagant addons. My v8 is perfect as is. The included protective bag helped with the early falls while I was still learning. It’s super-fast at 20kmh, and while I do occasionally bump up to my software locked 25kmh, I find it very safe. I know it can take 30kmh no problem. For my commutes in the city, 20kmh is as fast as I’m willing to go on a clear day with no pedestrians in sight. Most of the time, I opt to ride much slower out of respect for pedestrians and other commuters. Anything above 10kmh feels very fast. That is about as fast as I can run. I do very occasionally wish to go over 25kmh, but I prefer keeping the software lock on for the extra buffer of power to make sure I don’t fall over a bump or something like that. I usually ride for about two hours and then it takes about two hours to charge with the supplied charger. I am very happy with it. It does run hot, so I like to have a fan cooling it. I normally put my charger on top of my air purifier so the charger gets cooled for the ~2 hours it charges the wheel. I am considering upgrading my v8 to v8f in a year or so. I am _very_ reluctant to go to the heavier wheel, but unfortunately, I can’t find the original v8 being sold any more. This V8 is my first and only wheel. I am loving my purchase and I haven’t regretted it. I made sure to ride responsibly so as to avoid any major crashes. I did fall a couple of times and I got a couple of scrapes on my elbows. Those healed fast enough, but it could be an indication that my wrist guards only, may be insufficient if you wish to protect yourself better. I hate heat so I opt to ride casually/cautiously with only wrist guards protecting me. During the summer, they too get very hot, but I take them on every ride. I hope this was helpful and if there is anything else I’ve missed and you’d like to know, please feel free to ask. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

With the KS18XL is it worth putting a knobby tire on it for offroad riding(some 2.75" knobby tires are supposed to fit the 18xl) or am I better off keeping the street tire and keeping to pavement and gravel? Definitely could feel the narrower tire made learning to do low speed turns a bit more challenging since it felt very twitchy while learning it. But once I got used to that, it makes carving so effortless.

What about the KingSong S18? Its my first wheel. My only wheel but has been a great one. I bought it used and just when I think I’ve out grown it; I find my skills on it keep improving. I’ve raised the pedal height because my fast carving and slow turning skills have improved so much I was pedal scraping. Easy to maneuver and had decent suspension. Low maintenance. Only reason I want to upgrade to another wheel is to achieve a higher speed and have more range.

I have both the 16x and v11 and love both wheels for different reasons. It depends on what type of riding you do more of city or offroad? If your city has rough roads and you like to offroad I would honestly go with the v11 for the suspension. I ride each wheel back to back all the time and love them each for various reasons so whatever one you go with you will have the time of your life! Happy riding!

Thank you! That's super helpful. The suspension really is feeling like the tipping point to me. With the 16X I could go further and faster than I can now, but with the V11 I can go *different* places. That seems worth the extra weight... Now I just need to save up the money! Haha Btw this community is awesome. Helpful people who just can't wait to share their knowledge. Love it

Just recently started learning, yesterday was my first ever no-hold glide of any distance (80 meters), learning on a King Song 16X (2nd hand). I've never been able to do the 'spin one leg around in half-circles' thing with it. The other day I met a guy with a Begode 9 something? It was quite a lot lighter and with that yes, I could do the circles thing. Also, I got pads for the 16X, because I found the narrow body made me feel really wobbly. With the pads making it wider I'm not getting speed-wobbles at 5 kph like I was....
@adamtownsend1
@adamtownsend1 11 ай бұрын
Just a tip with speed wobbles if you come across it again. I was having a lot of speed wobbles at higher speeds with my V11 (Inmotion) once I got comfortable on it. I crashed 2 times really bad. Keeping your center of gravity lower is the key trick especially when you start feeling it coming. Get your butt lower.

@@adamtownsend1 So sit on the problem? :) My impression is that carving from one side to the other will fix it, but I am totally noob at the turning thing for now. I can do the "point your dick where you want to go" thing but haven't even started on the leaning turn stuff. I only get to practice for around an hour each Sunday.

no one will beat KS 16s as starter wheel :) Power is enough, range is ok. Inmotion.. well you'll get less power, less range for more monney. About Sherman Max i would be worry about that point where motor cable enters inside the wheel. Manufacturer sealed pedals holders not the wheel hole. Highly recommend to check there

I wouldn't buy another 14" wheel. They are good for trick riding, but they get kicked out from under you with small bumps. I had a V10F. The trolly handle is cheap and easy to replace. It never quite got up to the advertised speed. And I only got 2500 miles on it before it gave out.

Hi Adam. I live in the U.S. and own a recent production Inmotion V8S (not the, "F"), and would like to upgrade the pedal surfaces as you mentioned in your "Accessories" section of the video. But I cannot find a source that sells them. Do you have a source? I searched "Spiked Grippads," with no luck. And NyloNove is out of stock on the expensive (US$182) pedals they make. They specify V8 V8F, but NOT V8S. The "F" version still gets mentioned, such as in your review, but why is the upgraded ,"S" so often ignored? Thanks for your excellent videos, and for any info you can give.

Well I learned on the V8F. It is great wheel, I even leaned quite hard and it stopped with "overpowered please get off" error message. No cutout. It is so easy to disassembly and tire change - I have never seen wheel like this. BUT I will not recommend it to anyone. Motor axle is too weak. After 560km of street riding (no jumps at all) it broke, cut the motor wires and the short curcuit destroyed the controller. I am only 80kg. Tooo bad design of the axle, it is a shame that it is still the same till this day. Inmotion claimed that they are using better now but how knows...

Hi Adam, I don't know what I'm doing wrong with my EUC. My first was a ks 18xl, the engine was broken after 250 km. the second after 3500 km. The engine mount (all made of plastic) was also broken. My second ks 16 x less than 1600 km driven and the same problems motor broken motor suspension defective. I weigh about 90 kg and don't jump. Either I have a lot of bad luck with the Weel's or the things are no good !!!!!! I don't know if I should buy a third reel ?? they are not cheap and the price per km is considerable given the short life expectancy of these things. Greetings Tom from Brazil.

by getting a first wheel or beginners wheel that "is to handle" and "doesn't require your core" to operate...you'd be essentially eliminating the only thing that will help you ride any wheel of any size at any experience level: the core.

Direct painful experience, get the mten3 or ips i5, best easiest beginner EUC 2 lean and control, light weight, relatively small size and lower foot pedal closer to ground makes handling and turning soooo easy, compared with larger 16 inch wheels and beyond, and their center of gravity is lower which makes it easier to mount and control when turning😊

Same, I put 2500 mi on it since November, and soon bought a Sherman S which I just passed 2000 mi on. I think the V11 might be better or a 16 in suspension wheel like the S18. I don't know if I would recommend learning on the big suspension wheels, but I don't think they existed when I pulled the trigger last July. And always think about wrongway's caution regarding suspension especially as a commuter. Probably the 16" suspension with the bigger batteries would be cool. I like the S19 too despite the small battery pack, it is almost priced tight, it seems like a sleeper for a reliable wheel if they learned some lessons from the S22. The S22 is super easy as well, but also lacks range. The Patton FTW, for me, personally if I was buying over again this July.

Your body and the shell would be sprung weight and everything else unsprung weight Presumably the wheel itself, batteries, motherboard etc would all be unsprung.. A quick google says unstrung weight is tennis rackets. But I don't know if it has a context with EUCs.
