Red Rump parrots are also great for appartments, they may have their loud moments but are usually not so high in the decibel range. Just takes alot of effort to gain their trust. Would really love if you could do a video about them

Bourkes and Lineolateds are the best apartment birds. Rarely, a lineolated might be a squawker, but bourkes are never too loud. Hand fed Red rumps are usually quiet but can be aggressive to other birds. Budgies are low volume but chatter constantly. All of the other birds on this list have the potential to be annoyingly noisy, even parrotlets. Lovebirds are shrill. Cockatiels can have a LOUD whistle. Moral: if you live in an apartment, you're taking a risk getting a bird.

I have two macaws for a while and they made a lot of noise outside where they were open to sunlight and other elements. However, I recently moved into an apartment and was thinking about what to do or how to reduce the noise levels if necessary. Honestly speaking, I thought they would be noisy but I am surprised they were very quiet. I think you just need to keep them occupied outside of the cage with enough interaction. (This is just my take on it... all birds make loving companions, you just need the right mindset to work out the situation, and it will be A-OK)

Budgies definitely can do great in apartments, I've got a flock of four and even my loudest (Harold) can't be heard outside. His voice carries through the whole apartment, especially when he wants to be heard (which is often, he's an especially chatty one), but for the most part, the sound doesn't bother the neighbors. I tend to put them in pretty big cages though, even with the fact that I give them a lot out time outside the cage (often times the full day if I'm not busy), just because they are active and love to be able to fly around a lot. Plus all the food dishes, my four will get into the occasional food squabble if there's not ten million food dishes (Harold's food very motivated). They do get a bit screechy though, Canary (she's a parakeet, I just named her Canary cause of the shade of yellow she is) has a very screechy high pitched voice, especially when she gets loud.

I was dreaming about a loverbird, but after adopting one I had to return it back just the next day. It's shrill was so insane that I was able to hear it in every corner of my house and if the bird was on my shoulder - my ear was ringing for a few minutes after a scream. So I got PTSD and now get a shiver every time I hear a loverbird scream - even if it's in some quiet youtube video.

I have 3 parrotlets and used to live in apartments with them. I would also add that if noise is of concern you should stick with just one bird (and you better have enough time to devote to it). My birds at times do a type of contact call to each other that can be quite loud. Female birds tend to be less vocal than males though personality of course varies from individual to individual. But this is also a great reason to adopt an adult bird where you can find out before adoption if its personality will work with your lifestyle.

Depends I first got a male cockatiel and he kept flock calling what is pretty loud. So I got a female and now he stopped flock calling. Sometimes they flock call together to birds outside lol. For the rest she is quiet or chirps softly. I notice my male cockatiel is more quiet and calm now. I live in a studio apartment.

@@Sckat28 Look for "bird expos" in your area. They are events that happen periodically through the year where breeders get together in a location open to the public (usually an admission cost). I'm in Nor Cal and have seen them here. I went to one a couple years ago on the peninsula and it seemed like parrotlets was the most common parrot there. But then again, I went to another in Lodi recently and there were only 3 parrotlets in the entire place and they went within like an hour of open. They are out there. Be patient, and don't rush into it and I hope the right one for you comes along.

Hey where were the lineolated parakeet? Last month we adopted two and we are so obsessed with the little ones. They are only a little noisy for two hours a day and otherwise they babble quietly to each other. We also live in an apartment and our neighbors don't hear them at all. I think lineolated parakeet are the small version of Pionus, very calm, not loud and not nibbly. I am a big fan of your videos, you have a similar parrot preference as I do. When I get enough experience in handling my birds I will also get two bronze wing pionus. Here in Germany this species is widespread and not so expensive, Germans love quiet birds. Can you make a video about your birds? How do they get along with each other, which was your first bird? Does your girlfriend have a favorite bird? What routines do you have etc.? Greetings from Germany
@Fivesaflock

Those can also be great! There's definitely other small parakeets I could have added. Might make another video on more parrots you can own in an apartment down the road. Lucky you live in Germany. I don't know. Whenever I hear the budgies they are pretty loud to me. I would imagine that my score would be 5 as frequency and 3 as loudness. But yeah, I am not a parrot expert, or bird expert, never owned any, but if someone has it (even on youtube video) or there are in the petstore they are non-stop talking. I am thinking - wow, people on youtube always recommend budgies as the most quiet parrots, but I would be pretty surprised if I had never hear budgies and I would get them thinking they are the most quiet. I am team cockatiel all the way, with their cute beak that looks like they are smiling. Cockatiels make a single beep from time to time. But I did hear some that their beep would be hearable for 20 meters at least.
@barbarakrall4331
@barbarakrall4331 7 ай бұрын
Was a budgie mom in high school (so long, long ago, LOL)! I would agree with noise frequency of 5 (motormouth would be an apt description for most budgies) and loudness of 3 (although there could be an infrequent louder outlier). I live in an apartment and am waiting for 1-2 rehomed budgies from my local parrot club -- I anticipate that my budgie(s) will be less loud than the TVs or music I hear when walking the hallways. Am also considering a rehomed 'tiel.

For me the noise isn't the issue, but the fact that I can't find a single rental situation that allows ANY specialty pets. Places that say they are "pet friendly" I have found just means "cat and dog tolerant." So unfortunately until I can afford to BUY my own house, I'm just going to live vicariously through your videos of your parrots.

I disagree with your number one. I think you should replace Parrotlet with a Linnie (Lineolated Parakeet). Linnies are one of the quietest apartment type birds. They come in an array of colours (many more hues are being developed, but Europe is far more advanced than North America). And for a quiet "apartment bird" many can talk. In my experience, 75% of the better talkers end up being males. A Linnie is about the same size as a Parrotlet, possibly a few grams lighter. When comparing the two species of birds, Parrotlets are labeled as assholes when compared to the sweetness of Linnies. It seems Linnies are not as widely known by the general public.

And if you think all birds are the same, that they going all to be quiet all loud well you got the wrong point. all birds are different and, that’s why you should never give stereo types to them because if someone gets a love bird by watching this video and they like oh he said they don’t chirp as much and then the bird is the opposite what’s going to happen to the bird will get probably or rehome or sold so think on what you’re saying.

Budgies are harder to deal with than Lovebirds. They need to be interacted with. My Lovebirds have been easier for me. Costs have gone up. Do your homework. Some way over charge. I goty Lovebirds for $40. It $50. Not w the sellers want $100. Yo $250. A pet store selling for owners thinking they will get $350. That's way too high.

Your list loses credibility if it lacks either parrotlets or linnies. You left out the latter.

I’m going to have to say it really depends on the bird. They are all so different- even some of the typically loudest ones can be quieter than a noisy parakeet! And vice versa.🤷🏻‍♀️
