I love how instead of Phoenix ignoring bob and just being a jerk to him, she includes him. You can see when she tells him to play 9 ball, he looks so happy. Phoenix and bob forever. ♾️♾️

Phoenix (what a joke), to see the girl among this group begs the question: What rules or standards were LOWERED so she can Pass this, and Pass that. Hmmm, again WEAK.

Something that, to me, is overlooked is the interaction between Phoenix and Bob. He's sitting in the bar in full view of all the other pilots and is barely given any approval by the other cadets. He is even ostracized a bit. When Phoenix finds out he's her backseater, she quickly includes him in the discussion and almost madates that he play pool with them. She immediatly knows that they are now a team and she is stepping up for him. She also realizes that her chances of success are directly affected by Bob, so she makes it her mission to befriend him or at the very least include him. You can tell when she says to rack the billiard balls that he gets a surprised look that he is being included and accepted despite him not having the tough guy demeanor everyone else there exudes. Its a small 10 second part of a scene, but it always stuck with me.

nice observation! Though in real life, bob wouldn't be ignored I feel cause I've seen those characters around (not in af but whenever I'm at aeroshows). In movies you can judge who's tough and who's not but in real life, you could never judge a book by it's cover.

Hangman was that one hot, arrogant, talented jerk with a sense of humor, and a hidden heart of gold, whom everybody loves at the end. 😂 and it was obvious from the start. Also, I laughed so hard when Hangman played 'Slow Ride' at the bar when arguing with Rooster and telling Rooster he sucks because he is too slow. 🤣that was hilarious!

I love Hangman saying "mission is a mission, they don't confront me". Though his arrogance, he was the first to request permission to fly for air cover after Maverick was shot down, and despite his personal dispute with Rooster, he was the one who saved Mav and Rooster at the end. He really lived up to his words.

I remember watching this for the first time in the cinema and as soon as i heard Maverick say "Penny?" I instantly said in my head "The admiral's daughter" and nodded in realisation of who she is. And I'm pretty sure everyone else i was with did the same thing.

Well it's possible. I try not to talk about her looks. Just about anyone who knows who Jennifer Connelly is, knows all about her looks. But, well, in her late teens and early to mid twenties, Jennifer was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN who has ever been on as movie screen (Some Girls, The Hot Spot, Career Opportunities, The Rocketeer, Heart of Justice, Higher Learning, Mulholland Falls) so probably not no. . And regarding the person who said she was once "a ten", yes, she hit her peak in the movie "Mulholland Falls": in 1995 when she was the real live version of the often talked about, "Perfect 10". But today Jennifer is still a 9. And she is a good actress, too, as her awards attest to.

I agree. My only thought was that he assumed Mav was retired and just wearing his old stuff but even then, you don't physically throw a CAPT, even a retired one, out of a building as an officer yourself, especially while wearing your uniform.

Guess I'm getting old, but this is the only part of the movie I enjoyed ... the aging Pete, his relationship with Penny. All that hot-jock fighter pilots stuff with the other characters just didn't do it. And there was so much pre-release stuff about how they filmed it, that I never bought the notion that these stereotypical characters were actually flying the planes.
