As a reluctant Texan, I can assure everyone that we all know, painfully, that our electric grid is separate from the federal grid. He can't lie his way into mindf*cking people into not knowing this. Having no electricity when it is 16 degrees outside overnight and facing still having it out when it was going to be -9 in the morning is not something people will forget. A 10 year old boy in my town froze to death. I will not ever forget or forgive for that.

i'm so sorry to hear that. my fiance's mother & 5 year old sister were without power for over 48 hours. it got to 38° inside their house. we were still in texas at the time & we didn't have power for 18 and even just that long dropped our temp indoors to 46°. solidarity from a fellow texan

That's sort of how this "snowflake" mocking looks like it originally got going. Folks were demanding things SO specially indulgent outside of groups having a consensus to do it that it was looking both like imposition and silliness. Otherwise fairly liberal, I really am not a fan of this; it's not my bag. Let me say he or she without getting nagged on. Let those truly feeling on the fence about it personally accept the possibility of both and go graciously with the situation, for it's intended to address him/her/them. Once it's known "please call me him (or her or even them)" it should then be carried forth in the situation, just like someone might say "I am Dr." if addressed as Mr. or Ms. But please don't insert parochial gotchas into the language. (Though I could see an honorary M. pronounced "em" if things ever get to that point. Keeping a language standard, however, has to be a rather conservative thing if social changes are not to immediately raise a tower of babble.) The NRA can call all its guns things other than "assault rifle." Let it. We see a subjective side that they aren't interested in bringing to the fore, for it may dampen demand.

I think a lot of younger people won't get that joke. I thought it was brilliant. My mother used to own a small health food store and whatever Dr. Oz was touting that day people would come in and ask for it. We all thought it was hilarious. She ran a health food/supplement store, but she wasn't a wacko that thought herbs could cure anything and everything. In fact, they can be downright dangerous. She thought Oz was a quack.

@@davidknightx Is their instinct to kill birds... not an evil plot out of boredom to do so. Sadly, many outdoor cats usually have a short lifespans. I used to be just a dog person and now am a fan of cats also (after disliking them for much of my life). It isn't safe for our cat to be outside at all ... bobcats, coyotes, raccoons and eagles are problematic and go through our yard on a regular basis. For sure would be good if folks kept their cats indoors for many reasons (although I gather that some farms have working barn cats that do a great job of keeping the barn and other areas free of rodents). Would be great if everyone kept their pets safe AND made sure that their pets didn't have a negative impact on others or the environment.

Actually, if they were a doctor in the US, if someone came in and said their arm had fallen off, they would order the full set of tests even though they could see it hadn't, so they could send a bill to the patient AND the insurance company, and THEN refer them to a brain specialist, who would do the same thing, before referring them to a psychiatrist.

Ted makes my skin crawl. He seems like one of those guys who will just stare at you without blinking in a waiting room and doesn't care if you notice he is staring. He doesn't look away for a second and all you can do is get out of there asap and hope he doesn't try to speak to you. Just hearing his name now gives me that cringe feeling.

That sounds unbelievable to me. I'm so glad I live in a country where voting is compulsory for all citizens over the age of 18; this motivates people to at least take some interest in the issues, the candidates and the whole electoral process. I would say that overall we have a much more engaged and better-informed electorate than is the case in the US.
