@@sembilang8278 Honda makes a better bike. But its not a Harley. Some people just want a Harley - even though they come de-tuned so you have to pay Harley even more for a stage 2 kit to get the bikes performance to where it should have been from the factory. But all the extra money they charge their customers for their bikes and the upgrades has allowed them to build a huge network of dealerships, so that you can go on a long road trip and if you break down, you are always near a dealership that can service your bike, which is great! I know what youre thinking, Why would your bike break down? That idea never occurs to you because you ride a Honda.

It's just a ad for h-d,I laughed so hard when they say the engine is reliable, then lost it when they talk about customer service,it's insulting to hear anything so far from the truth, after owning 6 Harley-Davidson's I'm tired of the stealership trying to rape me Everytime I walk through their doors,Iive learned the hard way($$$) that you pay a premium for substandered engineering, their upgrades are a total joke, everyone who owns a Harley knows almost ALL of the afteratket parts are engineered better, built better, and last longer than original parts, sad truth, Harley's are for people with more money than brains, with piss-poor engineering, and dishonest employees at their "stealerships" are like casino's designed to take as much cash from you as possable,Harley Davidson product's are the weakest, worst engineered, overpriced motorcycles on the market today, and they continue to under perform, they do push the" lifestyle" because that's the only thing to keep you paying out the nose for a very poorly made motorcycle.

Suzuki Intruder Volusia (VL800 / C800 / Boulevard C50) rider here - I have had the same experience with my 2009 model (bought brand new), which was running smoothly & only with regular maintenance (oil / tires / coolant changes) up until 2020 (some 70k km), when I had to sell it (unfortunately). This year, I searched for a new bike to ride, and in the end, I chose the same brand & type, just an older, 2003 model - and to my surprise, it works exactly the same, perfect way. Yes, it is one hp weaker, yes, it is carburetor-operated - but screw it, it fits me perfectly and has zero issues (with some 40k km on it). Considering the prices of these vs any HDs or Indians.. Sorry, Suzuki's win is a no contest one to me.

Reliable my ass! In 20k miles my 03' XL1200 blew 4th gear, and I am gentle on my clutch, the ignition module crapped the bed, and the pressure plate let go, rolling away from a stop sign. I now ride an 02' FXSTDI Timken bottom with the Delphi injection. 8400 miles. It will require a high output oil pump to help cooling the engine. 88twins hate the heat. Might as well upgrade to S&S tensioner kit and a oil cooler. Then my Deuce might be worthy for 20k miles, then the tensioners will require another inspection. If you want Reliable, buy a Honda. My buddy rode 80k miles on a Valkerie on just rubber and oil changes. No Harley is capable of running 80k without any problems. Newer Harleys are fly by wire. Without a Harley scan tool, we are screwed to DIY repair! My Deuce is much bigger, sitting next to a new soft tail. The Deuce frame is 2cm bigger than a standard soft tail frame in 2002. Back the right to repair bill, or one day soon, we will be forced to bring our automotive vehicles back to the stealership for repairs. Harleys new bike warranty has so many disqualified loop holes, it's worthless.

@@Johnr37us 3 main reasons are, firstly they are marking the bikes up roughly $5k over MSRP, so the price out the door is mid to upper 30’s. Secondly, the term of the loan was 3 years, not the usual 5-7 most people are doing. I also did not own the BMW outright, so the overall down payment was $6-7k. Sorry I did not mention those things initially. Either way, paying $36k for a motorcycle that I am probably going to dump another $5-10k on in parts is a bit too rich for my blood. After long time ownership of multiple HD's, I kinda lost interest after some design element changes... not that there was no room for improvement. They are not perfect, but they are very good and premium bikes. I just felt HD made too many of the models that appealed to me look clownish and awkward. Mainly the whole fat rear tire phase that the early 2000,s "bike builder" craze inspired. HD ruined the Fat Boy with that rear tire/fender change... the bike, in my opinion was no longer proper and balanced with that huge fender width and tire. It ruined the near perfect balance of the Fat Boy in both looks and particularity in how it handled, Also, I saw no point in going beyond 88 CID on the Soft-Tail line... to me, from around 2009, HD no longer set the standard. Instead they began to follow trends and lost their way. I just added two bikes to my garage this summer... a new 650 Interceptor from Royal Enfield and a new Classic 350 from RE... these bikes take me back to all the things I used to find great about HD. Fortunately HD continued to make what I consider their best offering in the 883 Sportster with that beautiful peanut tank and bare bones, raw goodness... now HD has abandon the 883 at a time I think it needs it in their line the most. The 650 Interceptor will now take it's place in modern offerings as "that bike". HD fumbled the ball big with the end of the 883.

On trips I've seen more broken down Harley's than other brands combined. My KZ650 in-line 4 went almost 100K before needing a scheduled overhaul. I guess that's the price of sport riding. Rode with a group of young kids (Honda 350 twin) all day to see the Mekong, and there were no break downs, and no parts truck, or trailers following us. My experience is metric bikes (non Chinese-ium brands) are fun to ride, agile, reliable, and riders are friendly.

A big reason not to buy a Harley is parts availability. I mean it’s a terrible idea to be able to get parts for a bike built in the 1970’s from the dealership. Why would you want to maintain an old bike. My brother has a 1997 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 and we can’t get a new CDI module for it, it’s obsolete and there is no retrofit for it. But my neighbor’s 1978 Harley needed some gaskets to fix an oil leak, as well as brake pads and a clutch cable, and I found all those parts at the dealership. Now he has no excuse to buy a new bike, I was able to fix his for him. So yea, parts being available for old bikes prevents the purchase of new bikes ;)

@@davidbell1619 The Shadow has no aftermarket support and buying a used CDI for it and potentially get a sour one isn’t something I can’t afford, neither can my brother. Harley on the other hand still offers many parts and gaskets still from the dealership as well as engine pieces being available aftermarket new and vintage used. Again if this was the CDI module on an older Harley I would not feel comfortable buying one without a guarantee on its functionality. I’m not finding anyone online offering a CDI with a guarantee or warranty, most just say unknown couldn’t test.

Cutting edge engine? You must have never seen any other motorcycle engine. Yes, they are fairly dependable and you better hope they stay that way due to the cost of dealer maintenance. I have my last Harley now. $135.00 to change a tire? Right. The dealer doesn't make money off of new bikes, it's the repair shop that make Harley dealerships profitable. Lots of other brands that are "better".

The antiquated air cooled tech is the main inherent problem. They run too "hot" kills the lubricant engine oil. I love the Milwaukee 8 engine especially in 135 stage 4. The forked big end on the same journal. Loping firing order with the large capacity. Fantastic feel and grunt delivery. We now have the technology to radically improve this engine. In reliability and performance. The physical length of the motor can be shortened. By incorporating new Koenigsegg free-valve camless head design. Casting or Three "D" printing these new heads and replacement cylinders. With water jackets utilising a large radiator. Like the bespoke aluminium one planned for the new. Buell Supercruiser. The new heads and cylinders can be cast, cnc billet machined or three "d" printed for traditional look and appeal with faux cooling fins. You will need to redesign the cases. For there will be no need for pushrod or camshaft anymore. Come on Harley engineers. You need to step up your game. To prevent the company from eventual decline.

Outside of the evolution Sportster Harley-Davidson has not made a reliable motorcycle for over 20 years when they canceled the Evolution motor. The twin cam and the Milwaukee 8 have so many problems you would have to have a shopping list to write them all down on. Poor quality motorcycles with inferior Parts at high quality prices. Fancy paint and chrome doesn't do you any good when you're sitting on the side of the road dead waiting for a tow truck. My Evolution Sportster has almost 400,000 miles on it in the 20 plus years I've had it on the road and it's still on the original engine. Which is one of the reasons why Harley discontinued the Sportster. Harley mechanics can barely maintain this ones that they have never mind the complicated water-cooled wonders are coming out with. If Harley thinks it is going to out Honda Honda they got another thing coming.

I think you're being a little harsh. Lol. And comparing a Gold wing to a Harley has always given me heartburn. You're obviously going to hear of more HD failures than others because much more of them are sold in the USA. It always cracks me up hearing how Harley's are unreliable, because there are more Harley's touring America than any other brand. BTW, I've owned a F6B Goldwing and a StreetGlide at the same time. Quality of parts goes to Harley by a long shot. The paint on that F6B would scratch if you looked at it funny!

@@cobralife0417 Harley is small beer in the motorcycle world. There are a lot of Harleys on the road but the twin cam and the Milwaukee 8 have a shopping list full of built-in manufacturers defects from using cheap parts. Fancy paint and fancy Chrome does not help you when you have an unreliable motorcycle that has many Avenues to a catastrophic engine failure. A Honda Goldwing can go 10 times the distance any Harley can go and was the first motorcycle that had the odometer go out and extra digit to represent how many hundreds of thousands of miles it has gone. My Russian built Euro sidecar outfit has less mechanical difficulties than most of the people I ride with with their Milwaukee H and their twin cams. That bike is 20 plus years old and is a good running reliable bike. Harley's new Revolution motor is also having difficulties that should have been taken care of in development stages before the motorcycles got to the customer. Electrical failures overheating and some catastrophic engine failure show that Harley has gotten no better and is indeed gotten worse.

She was buttery smooth and worked great. The only problem I came across was sourcing parts from the aftermarket as their were few options. Stuff made her my own and always did the work on my own. After 4 years I sold her but as soon as I could ride again I got another bike. Second bike now is a 2001 Harley dyna that I got for a steal. Definitely a change in feel to say the least but the biggest difference is the amount of aftermarket parts I can source to make it my own. All this to say buy the bike that will make you happy ( used if possible) and build it to your own personal creation.
