Sara has some strong opinions about the State’s closing arguments (e.g., she found it boring and that she was “astonished” that the State didn’t once raise the crime scene). I think the opposite is true. The prosecutor walked passionately through the evidence, taking time to constantly remind the jury of how for decades Alex has lied to and fooled the people that trusted him. He did mention the crime scene on several occasions - like when he discussed the location of Paul and Maggie when they were shot, the GPS and phone data showing locations around the property, and how Alex would have seen the dead bodies when he pulled up that night, went to them examined them and somehow managed to take it all in in less than 19 seconds when he called 911. Sara is right it is a circumstantial evidence case and the prosecution reminded the jury of that and the fact that the only other people there were dead - murdered by Alex. There is an emotional element to Alex’s defense that may get one or two jurors to not agree that he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That is the defense’s goal - a hung jury and Alex goes free. Sara seems convinced that will be the result. However, after 30 years practicing law, I think that there is a more likely chance each juror will evaluate the evidence and use common sense and convict him of these murders. Juries are unpredictable and opinions on the outcome are just personal considerations of the evidence and issues that surround the case. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Cheers! Market economies cannot adapt to climate change. Habitats are built for sale not for the eventuality that the climate will change from hot to cold. Builders build buildings for sale will have to change to build for use. Small town rules and regulations that decide the kind of habitat allowed to be built will have to change. Climate Change makes cost cutting the new Cardinal Sin, a crime to build habitats weaker. If Congress thought like this the change would be painless compared to not making the change from a market to a planned economy. The old habitat structures we use to house all our activities have to be modified or rebuilt. Society has to rethink how it gets its water. How to make land productive. Earthquakes, floods, heavy snow storms, ice storms, coastal and mountain erosion, sleet, tornados, heavy forces none of our present-day habitats and culture of work can endure. New York City will be the only habitable city standing built on bedrock and even that is on a fault line. Everything will have to change in a once in a lifetime transformation.
