Great video! I run 2x undersized 100w heaters on a little budget tank for redundancy (and 2x HOB filters too) due to dear of failure, will likely add an inkbird as an upgrade in the future!

I had the exact situation they talked about in the video with my temperature probe becoming exposed to the air last week while I was away from home. Thankfully another member of my household was at home and heard the alarm going off and called me also thankfully I have the heater thermostat plugged into my Apex as a redundant back up and my Apex would have killed power to the heater thermostat had the temperature went up another degree. I say all of that for those of you that I actually read the comments set up a redundant system if it is feasible for you to do so.

I set my heater at 80°. My apex controler will turn the heater on and off at 78°. This way the heater is not cycling and will last. If the Apex fales in the on position the heater will not go above 80°

I worked in the computer chip industry and we used heat exchangers to maintain our water temps. I am surprised there is not something like that for expensive fish tanks. Our heat exchangers ran for years without issue. Worst problem we would have is algae going in them if you didn't put bleach in the water on a regular basis.which would clog the filters and cause a failure. Other than that they ran flawlessly.

Additional issue that wasn't brought up, but I foolishly have in my tank, with the remote temp sensor mounted in the display and the return pump fails the sump could be boiled. Thought I would keep a more accurate display temp, but hits me on water changes. I'm moving my sensor now.

I use two Eheim jaeger 200w heaters placed in the sump where the water drains, that I replace once every two years. They are set at 24 resp. 25 degree so I have one as a "spare" if the "25" breaks off. I then have them connected to the GHL profilux and the outlet set to turn off at 26 degree. Just my 2 cents. I laso have a Bosch IR tempgun that I use to test the temp every week when I do my waterchanges/water tests

Why did the BRS Heater controller get discontinued? i just had one crap out on me today. The Ink Bird controllers have just as poor of reviews as the BRS model did. Are there any reliable controllers on the market?

Not at all. You may even want to consider one 300w and one 200w, depending on the ambient room temperature where the tank is located.

Uhg. I had a temp probe fall out and didn’t realize until it was too late. The controller really needs a low temp alarm as well. That or someone needs to make a holder for those small probes. The suction cups should not be trusted.

DON'T USE THE RECOMENDED RATING ON THE BOX! The biggest and most common problem is when heaters fail "on". ie... The heater is too large. Here's my recomended sizes. 10 gal - 25 watt 20 gal - 50 watt 29 gal - 50 watt 55 gal - 100 watt 125 gal - 200 watt These sizes will allow at least 10 hours to reach 85 degrees from 78 degrees in normal room temperatures. They will cycle in normal oporation from 1 to 2 hours.

Tip #11 place your heater as horizontal as possible. That way you are NOT cooking the thermostat and, also ,not as likely to develop that condensation inside of your heater.Use a couple of heaters of lesser wattage ,that way if you set one to 78 and one to 75,the one will tend to cycle less and be on longer.Less wear and tear on heater. Stay well BRS community and get vaccinated ,,Doc BC
