And these’re definitely no exception.👌🏽 Also, small correction about the Dimitri portion: Edelgard doesn’t throw her dagger at Dimitri in an attempt to kill him, as several peeps think, but it’s *much* more subtle than that. When Dimitri gave the dagger back to her, he told her to “cut her own path for herself,” or something along those lines. And so after her defeat, instead of taking Dimitri’s hand, Edelgard threw the dagger in order to return the dagger to him and allow him to cut a new path for himself instead: that being a world where Dimitri was the victor and she would die with her empire. It’s entirely sad, really, since it shows that despite the both of them having noble goals and aspirations, their largely different ideals made it so they could never reach a consensus...

Edgeworth is the Lawful Good grumpy, snarky, suave man to Phoenix's Neutral Good goofy, earnest, and resolute man. It's why we love him so much. He's basically Batman to Nick's Superman; the guy who will work on serving justice in a way his good boy best friend can't.

What I love about Edgeworth is the psychology of his arc. He was ruthless as a defence mechanism, convincing himself that defense attorneys are evil liars and defendants are always guilty Because if he allowed himself to think anything different, he'd have to admit what he believed to be the harsh truth. 13:35 This part is actually pretty sad to me, because I have the theory that Edelgard didn't go for the kill, I mean, she throws the knife to his shoulder, a non-lethal point, so, I believe that she actually aimed there to force Dimitri to kill her, because she couldn't stand the idea that all she had sacrificed had been for nothing.(Spoilers) She couldn't destroy the crest system, she had to live with the fact that she had two crests not by birth, but by experimentation, an experimentation done to her when she was just a child and that caused the death of her brothers and sisters, and having helped those who slither in the dark, the ones that did those abhorrent experiments on her, was done for nothing, since the only reason why she did was because she wanted to betray them after destroying the church of Seiros. Due to this, I think that was an act of suicide by herself. She prefered to die rather than to live in a world where she had to deal with her failure, and the consequences of that failure (aka the deaths of the black eagle students, or at least the ones that you didn't recruit)

I really like Luke's redemption arc from Tales of the Abyss. He doesn't start a bad guy though, just a spoiled brat.

The sad part when it comes to Kratos is that all his efforts to make his son not fall into the same path as him are doomed to fail. Key word: Ragnarok

I do wish Zek from Infamous got an honorable mention. His redemption does come out of nowhere but his character development was huge going from that jealous side-kick to active best friend who Cole considered his brother.

Man, I was just thinking the other day about how good Kratos' redemption is! He went from one of my most hated video game protagonists to one of my most loved in a completely natural journey that doesn't jarringly detach him from who he used to be. Massive respect for him and his actor. John's journey is even better when you pick up all the hints in RDR2 that he didn't want to be a father and his initial reaction to possibly having a real family was to run from it. Even at the start of the game, he's hesitant around them, gets into arguments and is a mess of commitment issues. I love that even in that prequel we see a soft journey for him as he realises how much his wife and son mean to him and he becomes committed to being there for them no matter what, something that helps him realise how doomed and damned the outlaw life is. I think I probably prefer Arthur's redemption arc, personally, but I love John with all my heart.

There's also a redemption story in Ghost of Tsushima. Specifically for Tomoe, who was Sensei Ishikawa's favorite pupil, but betrayed him. It unfortunately wasn't elaborated enough to why she turned against the Mongols in the end. This is one of quite a few side stories in this game that are worth expanding.

You know, I hadn't exactly given much thought to Number 1's redemption arc. When I'd first played, I figured "Hey, if they do something good or have a sad backstory, they're redeemed!" Turns out, no, that's just me feeling sorry for them. After hearing the explanation for their redemption arc, it made me reaffirm they're one of my favorite characters. I'm definitely gonna go back and finish his game, now.

I think Chara’s name is pronounced Care-ah, a play on the word “character.” Also the video was great and Ari’s bit in Dimitri’s entry was hilarious

One honorable mention I would have liked to see is Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu from Danganronpa 2. He's not so much a villain, but he is extremely unhelpful at the start and it's only after he loses Peko that he starts to loosen up.

About the Undertale rep, I’d rather go with Undyne because of the differences of the two routes. She actually gets two different redemptions. She is willing to befriend you and help you out with getting Alphys happy by asking you to give her the love letter. And in Genocide? After she takes the hit for Monster Kid, she realizes that if the player gets past her, then it wouldn’t just be the monsters that would die. If she fails, even the humans aren’t safe. Upon this realization, she turns into her Undying form. She won’t stop until you stop, but that also means that, even if you do, the Determination she exudes would’ve eventually turned her into a puddle like with the Amalgamates.

I would have also considered Shadow the Hedgehog, but I could understand why he wouldn't be on this list since his redemption is pretty fast in the first game he showed up in and his bout with amnesia and player choice in his Self-Titled game (Provided you don't count the True Ending anyway) make his redemption kinda iffy.

Thank you. Finally someone who remembers that Kratos is a tragic figure.... and that he this guy died like 2000 times and still comes back every time. SO yes people of the past. Bearded kratos in the trailer really is the same as in the originals. And yes, it does make sense that he is not so wild in gow 4. -_- sorry, but it kinda hurts how many people don't understand this character. which is a shame, cause for me he is one of video game greatest tragic figures.

I really loved Dimitri's story in Three Houses. Azure Moon was my first route and it makes me sad that Dimitri basically dies in every other route. Azure Moon is the only way he can live on. But despite his crazed perspective and manic aggression, he has his reasons for feeling the way he did. It goes to show that not only his redemption arc, but his entire character arc, are vital to the Azure Moon story. But they're also important on other routes, as you get to see the beginnings of his downward spiral no matter what route you choose. Dimitri is always present when you find out that Edelgard is the Flame Emperor. Knowing that Dimitri dies on all other routes except Azure Moon, it gives players the incentive to go back and play through his route if they really want to know what could've happened to Dimitri.

Another personal favorite for me is Edward Kenway in AC4. Goes from being a selfish, carefree pirate chasing gold to becoming a noble member of the assassins and a noble figure

Now, for next year, Top 10 BRTRAYAL ARCS. Arcs where you slowly see the character for who they are.

Characters with redemption arcs are usually my favorite kind, when done right. My top two favorite video game characters of all time fit this category.

Gotta agree with the #1 pick. I hated his guts in the first game, but seeing him working along with phoenix from the later part of Turnabout Samurai and further made me like him some more. But his best moment was when he resigned his prosecutor's badge to save kay. It felt so incredibly impactful that he was willing to give up the career he spend so long building up so he could defend kay

I like the redemption arc that Dusknoir goes through in PMD Explorers of Sky Special Episode 5.

Nice to see Cecil at least made honorable mentions. His redemption arc was largely in the early portion of FFIV, so I get why there might not have been enough content to justify him in the top ten, but he did turn against his king and kingdom because his morals wouldn't let him stay quiet, faced and conquered his inner darkness at his lowest point, and received validation from his king and adopted father's spirit. The acknowledgement for that, however brief, is appreciated

Scorpion from Mortal Kombat has an amazing redemption arc. Whether it be the original timeline or the Netherrealm timeline, Scorpion goes from being a skilled assassin and loving, caring father to a rage-filled undead warrior serving a sorcerer of the undead to a protector of the realm after finding out the truth of his family’s and clan’s deaths and being restored to life. Heck, he even makes peace with Kuai Liang, the brother of the man he killed, and the two of them become close friends and allies.

I will agree with a lot of the list. But Velvet Crowe from tales of berseria should have been mentioned. She started as just a carefree village girl living with her little brother laphicet and brother-in-law arthur after her older sister and unborn child were killed by daemons, only to be transformed into one after her brother was sacrificed to awaken an old God and make Arthur a "hero" as the first Shepard of humanity. She escaped with the help of her sisters reincarnation only to have to devour her to escape, and she killed many, many innocents in her path for revenge, and went mad after killing someone who she promised his sister to spare. Afterwards her own brother was revealed to have become a vessel for the god, and was tormenting her, bringing her to despair to fulfill the requirements for innominats power to reach its max and suppress all of humanity's emotion completely. That is until phi brought velvet back from despair, made her realize that yes, she did wrong but she isn't without redemption, and she has people who care, and that even with all the death she's caused, she can stop the death of all of humanity by them basically losing emotion and wanting to kill themselves for the greater good, and sealing innominat and herself away, allowing phi to become the new God to replace innomonat and allow humanity to be purified... (With the exception of a select few like roukurou who were to greatly filled with malevolence that they couldn't become human again)

You know, your intro to the Yuri segment makes me want to hear about your top ten personal moments like what you described. Assuming you didn’t already do that; at this point, you’ve made so much content that even a diehard fan like me can’t keep track of it all. If I were to make a list like that myself, though, I have an odd inclusion: the battle of Glaivend Basin in Tales of Zestiria. I call it weird because most people would call that moment a flop, a failed attempt to show the horrors of war. Looking back, I can see its failures...yet the message hit home for me. A battle so bloody and pointless, sacrificing countless lives for nothing in a struggle that only breeds hatred and malevolence. The basin, an utter wasteland at the border of two nations with strained relationships, is closed off by this event, as the only thing this bloodshed achieved is a worsening of those tensions. And the music, the somber, depressing music that plays here, really conveys just how pointless the violence was, especially as it still plays for the area should you take the few steps into it you’re allowed after the battle.

Food for thought about Asriel's death, it was really more on Chara. Her death (yes, I refer to Chara as a girl) was pre-planned, so Asriel could absorb her soul and pass the barrier. However, in that absorption, Chara was able to share control of Asriel's body, and by that, she carried her own body to the village, knowing that the humans would attack Asriel. Her hope was that he'd fight back, to get 6 more human souls to break the barrier, and to convince Asriel that other humans aren't worth saving. However, Asriel resisted fighting back, and that's what led to his death. To whoever wonders how I know all that, you get that info from Asriel himself at the end of the pacifist run, if you go all the way back to where the game started, where he'd be spending his last few moments before turning back to a flower.

Genji wasn't to thrilled with his cyborg body but thanks to a robot monk named Tekartha Zenyatta he is at peace with who and what he is

The Feeling, that this inner Fight only ends when my Life Story does too. This is why i like Riku more, but can't stand KH1 Sora nowadays.
